Chapter 85

Shilan nudged my leg when we were close to the spot that Arden had told me to use, and I glanced at him from the corner of my eye. He cocked his head to the side while he flicked his tail from side to side, and I had a feeling that he had asked me something that I couldn't hear.

I rolled my eyes and scowled, pressing my lips into a thin line. "I do not know what you had asked me, Shilan," I said and looked away from him while I grabbed my clothes tighter in my hand. "I thought you understood that I couldn't understand you because of the bond being broken between us."

Shilan grumbled something under his breath and looked away from me.

He didn't say a word and grunted before he nudged my hand with his neck, and I bit back a tired sigh and placed my hand on his neck, shifting my clothes to one hand so that I could do it.

He purred and closed his eyes, leaning against my touch while he flicked his tail from side to side.

"You might have to stay out while I change into these clothes," I said, and he looked at me with an annoyed look on his face.

I held back an eye roll and pressed my lips into a thin line when I saw the annoyed look on his face.

"I'm serious, Shilan," I said coldly, narrowing my eyes.

"I do not know how big the room is going to be, so you are going to have to wait outside if it is too small for both of us to do this comfortably. "

Shilan sighed and slowly nodded, relenting. He flicked his tail, and I could tell that he didn't like it, which was something I agreed with because both of us were on edge with the bond between us being broken.

"It'll be fixed," I said, biting back a tired sigh. I moved a hand through my hair and across my face before I shook my head and licked my lips, hesitating ever so slightly. "I don't think this will take that long for it to be fixed."

Shilan slowly nodded, and a look of doubt flashed through his eyes, something that I understood because I was a little doubtful about what I had said too.

I bit back a small snort and rolled my eyes, pressing my lips into a thin line. "Don't do that, Shilan," I said, "because you are making me doubt myself, too."

Shilan grunted his apology and nuzzled my hand with his nose. He flicked his tail and stopped when I stopped in front of the place that Arden had told me. He looked at the area where we had stopped before he looked at me, waiting for me to do something.

"Ok," I said and took a deep breath before I released it with a small whoosh. "Stand guard, ok? Don't let anyone into this area because I do not want anyone to see me naked."

Shilan rolled his eyes but nodded. He didn't say a word and gestured for me to enter the room with his head.

I rolled my eyes and placed my hand on the door before I pushed it against it, and there was a soft click before the door gave way when it opened. I paused and looked at Shilan, and both of us stared at each other with wide eyes because we did not expect that to happen.

Shilan flicked his tail from side to side before he slowly nodded, silently indicating that I should push it all of the way open and to step inside. He laid down in front of it, and I had a feeling that he was going to stay there and would not budge for anything or anyone.

I took another deep breath and then released it with a small whoosh before I pushed open the door all of the way and walked into a spacious room that would fit both of us while I changed.

"I think you can come in, Shilan," I said and looked around before I looked at the door where I saw my dragon peeking his head into the room, "so come inside. "

Shilan didn't need to be told twice because as soon as I said that, he stood up and rushed into the room, closing the door behind him. He laid down in front of the door, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes and scowl, amused.

"Very funny, Shilan," I said, and Shilan shrugged and sighed happily. I shook my head and walked over to a space where I could put down my clothes so that I could get changed into them.

Shilan opened his eyes and watched me. He flicked his tail from side to side and waited for me to get changed without saying much of a word because he knew that I wouldn't be able to hear him.

"I'll see if our friend knows what has happened between us later on this evening or tomorrow morning after training," I said randomly, talking about Mir?na, and Shilan grunted and nodded.

I started to get undressed, biting back a tired sigh while I did so.

I didn't care that Shilan was watching me, knowing full well that he wouldn't do anything about it.

Shilan made a small noise in the back of his throat, and I paused after I took off my dress and turned to look at him, raising an eyebrow in question. His gaze was hard and cold, and he looked to be staring at something that I couldn't see.

"What?" I asked, and Shilan looked at me with the hard look still on his face and worry in his eyes.

"What is wrong, Shilan? Are you looking at the scars on my back that symbolize me being your rider?

" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question, and he nodded while his nostrils flared before they grew smaller. "Does it look different?"

Shilan nodded and stood before he turned in a circle and then laid down a second time, and I knew that he wanted me to face my back toward him instead of my front.

I nodded and did what I was told to do without fighting because I knew that he wanted to see it. "Do you see anything different with the scars on my back?" I asked and looked at him, and Shilan grunted and nodded in confirmation. "Do you want to touch them before I change?"

Shilan shook his head and whined, and I had a feeling that this was his way of telling me to hurry up and change so that we could go talk to Arden about this and fast because there was something there that had him more worried than in the past.

And unfortunately, I became more worried, too...

Oh, for the love of the Great, please, keep me as safe as I can be.

Please...
