chapter 3

Late at night, as I finished washing up and returned to my room, a hand suddenly reached out from the darkness and yanked me into the stairwell.

"Vivian." Jasper's voice was hoarse, a faint, unreadable smile on his lips as he pressed me against the cold wall with his body.

In the cramped space, our breaths intertwined, warm air brushing against my neck.

He asked, "Why did you suddenly start ignoring me?"

He had probably been drinking, his cheeks flushed unnaturally red.

His already captivating eyes were now glistening.

He said, "Aren't I your favorite? Stop going on blind dates with other men, okay?"

He slowly leaned in, his lips gently brushing against my cheek.

I instinctively tried to dodge, but his large hand wrapped around my waist, pulling me closer.

"Jasper, you're crazy!" I frantically raised my hand to hit his back.

Not far away, Luna and Archer had finished packing up and were ready to say goodnight.

Hearing their footsteps getting closer, I grew more anxious. "Let go of me, they'll see us!"

"Then admit our relationship." He suddenly looked up, his gaze a bit clearer but filled with mockery and amusement.

"Weren't you looking forward to letting my dad and the others know before?"

"Isn't this good for us? Anyway, your mom will never marry my dad in this lifetime. Marrying me would fulfill your goal, isn't that what you want?"

He spoke word by word, his tone clearly smiling, yet I saw a trace of instinctive disgust in his struggling eyes.

Yeah, he has always thought of me this way and never looked up to me.

The stairwell was eerily silent, suffocating me.

Not until I heard Luna and Archer enter their rooms did I raise my hand and slap him sharply across the face.

I said, "Jasper, I was foolish before. But from now on, I am your sister, and you should show me some respect."

"Don't worry, I'll get married right away. My mom and I won't be in your way anymore."

I pushed him away and walked off without hesitation.

I thought I made myself clear this time. No matter how unwilling Jasper was, he should let go.

But no one expected that during a family dinner, he actually said in front of everyone, "Dad, I like Vivian, and I want to marry her. You'll agree, right?"

As soon as he said that, everyone was stunned.

I quickly looked at Archer.

His face darkened, and he sternly shouted, "Jasper, there's a limit to your nonsense!"

Jasper's face also darkened, no longer casual like before. "I'm not joking."

I suddenly stood up and said, "Jasper! I was just advising you not to get too close to women of unknown background, and this is how you retaliate against me?"

I urgently and angrily accused Jasper, successfully making everyone stop believing his words.

Archer believed me, thinking Jasper was being reckless and vengeful, and angrily slapped him.

Jasper's head turned from the slap, but he said nothing, his eyes fixed on me, never looking away.

My heart was pounding as if it would burst out of my chest, and I turned and fled upstairs.

In this life, I want to stay far away from Jasper and never have anything to do with him again.

But that night, he barged into my room again.

I woke up startled from my sleep, my mind still in a haze.

He softly called my name, leaving me dazed, unable to tell if it was the past life or this one.

"Sorry, Vivian, don't marry him." He suddenly lunged forward, holding me tightly, his voice trembling, his face streaked with tears.

His eyes were tightly shut, as if trapped in an inescapable nightmare.

One moment he said he wanted to marry me, the next he begged me not to marry someone else, and then he pleaded not to jump. His tears flowed endlessly, soaking the front of my nightgown.

I frowned, my tone icy, and grabbed a pillow to throw at him. "Get out!"

Jasper suddenly seemed to snap back to reality.

He stared at me blankly, confusion in his eyes, followed by a look of struggle and pain. "Vivian?"

Seeing him step forward again, I didnt hesitate and slapped him once more.

The moonlight revealed his pale, lifeless face and the cold sweat on his forehead.

Tears streaked his face as he stood there dazed, staring at me, unable to snap out of it.

After a long while, he murmured, "Are you alive?"
