Epilogue
CONNOR—A FEW MONTHS LATER
“What’s the celebratory cake for?” I asked, dipping my finger in the frosting on Zoe’s slice. I’d just gotten home from work, and found her sitting at the kitchen table.
The rest of the cake was behind her plate, the frosting electric green this time.
“Finn told Emmy that I finally finished fixing the pack’s books.” She cut a bite of cake with her fork and handed it to me.
“Guess that’s why it’s green.” I leaned over the table and kissed her slowly before pulling away. “How did your meetings go?”
“Surprisingly well. I got two more clients.”
I whistled. “Taking Moon Ridge by storm.”
“You bet.” She handed me the fork again. “I put pasta on the stove. And I made another plan.”
“I’m stunned. You, planning?”
She smiled. “Shut up. It’s a good one, this time.”
“Your plans are always good.”
“True. Especially the mate one.”
“That was your best,” I agreed. “What’s this plan?”
“I’m thinking we need a honeymoon.”
“Maybe this one will be my second favorite, then.”
“There’s a good chance.” She cut into her cake slice again.
“What will this honeymoon consist of? A week on a beach? A secluded cabin on a mountain? A trip to Europe?”
“Nope.” She took another bite, chewed, and swallowed before explaining. “Me and you. Hiking backpacks. A big hammock. And your camera.”
“Now we’re talking. Are there vegetables involved?”
“Connor, if a plan is any good, there are always vegetables involved.”
“It sounds like a fucking dream. When do we leave?”
“In the morning.” She handed me the fork with another bite of cake. I took it, but didn’t eat it.
“So we have to finish this tonight?”
“Yep.”
“It’ll be tough, but I’ll do it for you, Gorgeous.” I leaned over and kissed her. “I love you.”
“I love you too. The honeymoon will be fun, don’t you think?”
“I think it’ll be perfect.”
Everything was, with her.
She was so much better than I ever could’ve imagined—and I was so damn glad she was mine.
