Chapter 2

We went to where Derek and the others were a while ago, where we separated ways.

Before I entered the room, I also read the words beside the door.

Sector 3 - Phase 3.

They were in a big, dark room. Some computers, a lot of hospital beds close to the walls and some monitors are located here. Only the red light and our flashlights gives visibility in this room.

When we came near them, Derek reported the situation.

A cage? I don't think I have seen anything like this in my whole years in the military.

He nodded which means he's confident about it.

I signaled Mark to put on flares in the area so we could see a little bit better.

I walked closer to it, searching for an answer or anything that can give me a clue about, what this is.

I bent down, looking for something out of this world. But to my dismay, I found none. Debating whether to touch it or not, I finally decided to stand up, I went to stand up so my gun, which was hanging on my waist, brushed the surface of the wall.

That's when I saw a spark.

Electricity?

I brushed my gun again and my eyebrows knotted together, then realization dawned upon me.

This is an electric cage.

They are used for locking up or caging animals who are untamed and wild such as bears, wolves and lions.

The electricity is made so that they would behave, or rather, obey.

Which are they keeping here?

Curiosity. Shock. And a little bit of fear.

Well who won't be scared after hearing such stuff.

I mean, it's common sense to put bars on a freaking cage, otherwise whatever you're holding captive will get out, and that leads to us. Which means they failed and got attacked by...whatever it is that attacked them.

They keep on rambling until Ally came out of a random room and spoke.

She got my message. When I said mentioned the generator, its something's wrong with the power generator and I guess she found it. I always tell her to double check all rooms in case Derek misses things. And he does not disappoint all right.

That is one thing about him that I hate.

There's this one time where our team was dispatched to aid into a collapsed building to retrieve survivors, Derek ALMOST left one person inside if I haven't asked Ally to check.

He experienced hell that day. He even refused to tell us what happened. Pissed me off then, pisses me off now.

Ally was pointing at where she was a while ago, another room. But it seems to be a small one.

I followed her and the others close behind.

She led us to the Electrical room.

The room is filled with electrical equipment and stuff. It was not very spacious in here but it's enough for us. She pointed at something between the power generator and the wall.

Claw marks.

She again, pointed to the ground, which shows a trail of blood and a pattern of paw prints.

I don't see much because of how dark it is. When I pointed my flashlight at it, it just shows half of the print. I frowned.

Better yet, what did.

I do not like it when people panic especially when they are on duty. It may rise panic and fear also to the other members. I mean, it's okay to be afraid cause we're all human but must be kept at bay if on duty. It's what I always tell myself at least.

Especially when we don't know what did this. My prediction is that the thing that they held captive here, got freed and attacked them. Obviously.

But why the Electrical room?

I glared at him, warning him to cut his act of scaring them, but then he just flipped me off.

I walked closer to the mark. I know it's weird but, I'm getting drawn to it. Something is pulling me, telling me to go closer, so I did.

I went to touch the claw marks, tracing it, memorizing it, analyzing it, like I always do.

I felt a spark when I touched it, but not the voltage, I think it's something else, something much more than that..

Then I moved on to the prints, they seem like paw prints to me but I need to confirm with animal experts.

Concluding that there's nothing I can do or find out just looking at this things, I told my team to gather some data as much as they can.

While I was curiously staring at the claw marks, Alec spoke.

From the looks of it, I think they're experimenting on something.

Well duh, this is a lab, wake up stupid.

There goes my mind again...

I followed where he collected it, he found at least 5 of those things. I took one for myself.

After observing a few times, I told him to collect it all and take it with us.

We started to pack our things but when we were headed for the exit...

I heard a whimper coming down from another door to our right. Alerted by the sound, the thought of danger envaded my mind which made me immediately point my gun at that side, making my team startled with my fast response.

Is it just me?

Curiously, I turn to my team and unfortunately, they haven't heard it. They all held confused faces, wondering what the hell is wrong with me.

I signaled for them to take a look at the door to our far right.

One of my teammate went forward and carefully and quietly, he opened the door in a blink of an eye.

So much for checking all the rooms.

Damn you, Derek.
