Chapter 28

I remember them having training grounds here, just not the directions.

If I go back to the entrance of the pack house, maybe I could recall it.

With my combat boots that I packed, dressed in cargo pants and a black sleeveless shirt, I walked back to the entrance.

Going down the stairs, I hear talking, I slowed down and tried to listen into the conversation.

It was the Alpha and some person I couldn't put a face to, but his voice is so goddamn familiar.

Instead of barging into their conversation, I just went the other direction to the entrance.

When I saw it, I smiled. I stopped in front of it and turned around. My smile faded when two people was standing in front of me.

The first one was wearing a white shirt with jogging pants, the second person was wearing a business suit.

It took him a few seconds to recognize me and jumped on me. I groaned when we both fell down, I couldn't possibly carry this big man.

I patted his back and tried to push him off seconds later but he wouldn't budge.

He snuggled closer and said, "Captain, what are you doing here?"

I chuckled. "Get off of me first so we could talk properly."

He groaned but got off of me, offering his hand for me to take and picked me up. Saying my thanks, I tried to explain what happened.

My mood immediately changed, seeing him wants me to pull my knife out and strike something or someone.

He pisses me off.

He just grinned at me and waved a little. I rolled my eyes and looked back at Derek who was still confused.

Derek smirked and said that the Alpha can help me with my problem. My smile immediately turned to a frown.

He opened the door and turned, giving us a little wave and shut it.

I turned and his hand was pointing where the training ground should be. I let out a breath and walked to where he pointed, him closely behind me.

Even after seeing this yesterday, I can't believe just how big it is. There is practically a running track here, come on.

There is a ring in the middle, some punching bags attached to the ceiling at the corner of this room and there was various of weapons.

Swords, knives, arrows, shields, that big ball with spike which I don't really give a care about.

No guns.

Realizing that made me a bit disappointed but at least there was knives, that I could work with.

I started to walk to the running track, stretching my legs, then my arms. I did a bit of jumping jacks and push ups.

Sweat was forming in my body which I didn't give attention to. I just focused on my warm ups and kept going.

I pushed my half body up, my lower half still on a push up position, I looked at him blankly.

When I felt rested, I wanted to try the weapons. Walking to it, I picked up a knife and turned to a target. The target is for arrows and it was a few distance away.

It was far, not that I mind but I think this could work. I put the knife on my left hand and positioned it as to how I'm suppose to throw it.

I raised my arms and did a little swing behind me and let go of it, the knife hit the target but if wasn't at the center.

My shoulders went down, clearly not liking where it landed. I picked up a knife again and did the same thing. This time, it was closer to the center but it was not enough for me.

I tried again and again but all the knives I've thrown either ends up close to the center or not hitting the target at all.

I ran out of knives so I went to the targets to pick some up, then went back to my position a while ago.

This is gonna take me all day.

I just came out of the shower when Sen knocked on my door, telling me that we have to discuss the game that will happen tomorrow.

I sat on the bed beside her and sighed, nodding my head. Why are all this games taking place everyday?

I'm sure everyone wants to take a break.

I'm prone to missions happening but this? It's exhausting and I don't even know why.

Imagine facing dangerous situations everyday of your life but never got tired or anything, then when facing games, all of the sudden you lose energy. Just what the hell.

My eyes went wide, no food? Before I could ask her, the door was already shut and she was gone.

And for the nth time today, I groaned, falling back to the bed. I grabbed a pillow and screamed at it, letting my frustration out.

There's a kid trapped in my body that's for sure, I keep doing childish things in this past few days.

Looks like I'm attending that ball if I want to survive.

I spent the whole morning practicing with knives on the target. With little practice, my aim was improving. I was adjusting to my weapon and its way of working.

I have worked with knives in my field, just not throwing them though. I prefer shooting, the sound of a gun going off gives me the feeling of having the upper hand.

My target practice went from not getting a proper throw, to getting all my knives into the target, no miss. And yet no bullseye.

After that, noon came and the game began, just like that.

Before we took off to the forest, we were given weapons to pick and take with us. I picked the knives up and the daggers, putting two on the pocket of my belt.

I've hunted two foxes so far, foxes costs 10 points, I need 40 points more to win.

Bunnies costs 5 or any small animals. The size of a fox is prized 10 points, deer costs 30 same as a bear, and the only 50 points around here is a lion, tiger, etc.

I tried hunting for it but I failed, only ending up with a deer and two foxes. I have 40 points, just one more fox and I'm out of this game.

I bent down to the river and drank huge gulps of water, satisfying my nerves. I sighed heavily and rested for a bit.

A movement in the water caught my eyes, its a tail wagging around. What the hell is that? I stood up to get a proper view of it.

I saw human flesh stuck between a rock, trying to break free. The water was clean, making you see through it.

Without hesitation, I jumped in and swam towards the person. I pulled her off of the gap and swam to the shore, only to be pulled back with force.

I looked down and saw the tail again, it was in the form of a fish.

Realization dawned upon me and I looked back up at her. "You're a m-mermaid?" I was in shock, my eyes were wide and my voice wavered.

She nodded her head and began to swim to the shore, her fingers were wrapped around my arms so she was pulling me with her.

She helped me climbed back up and stayed there. I was wet all over and it was heavy. I looked back at her and crouched down to her level.

Her curly red hair danced with the waves, same as her blue scaled tail. Her green eyes staying on me.

She was still in the water while her arms were resting on the ground.

I smiled back and held her hand too. But then a werwolf caught my attention, it was across the river. Its teeth were out and it snarled at us.

I got up quickly and pulled a dagger out of my pockets, ready to fight. The wolf slowly walked to the water, its eyes on the girl.

I realized what it came for and without a second, I synced with its jump and landed on top of it.

Like a bull, it jumped all over the place with me on top, not wasting a second, I grabbed the dagger and stabbed it.

It whined and somehow got me off of it. My back came in contact with a tree and I groaned. I stood up and pulled another dagger out of my pockets, I lunged at it first.

It bit me in my left arm where I was holding the dagger when I tried to swing at it, it dodged me and went for my arm. I lost my grip on the dagger, the weapon flew out of my hand and into the water, the waves taking it with them.

I groaned and tried to open the mouth of the wolf, my free hand pushing its face away. It was still biting me and my skin was beginning to tear apart the longer it holds its bite.

I took the dagger that I stabbed it with and it whined with pain, I then stabbed it to its face. Its teeth dug dipper into my skin and threw me to a tree.

The dagger flew with me. The werewolf's left eye is now wounded.

My head was hazy, it came in contact with the tree first. Wavering, I picked up the dagger and shook my head, attempting to ignore the blurry vision.

Calming down, I took deep breaths and focused on one thing only. I turned off all my senses and my eyes were dead straight on the werewolf. With my other arm, I pounced on it without thinking. I was on top of it again and this time, I went for the head.

The wolf fell down on the forest floor with me still on top of it, the dagger still in my hands.

It kept whining, trying to throw me off of its body with little effort. I can see the life leaving out of it, its eyes slowly losing color. I looked at it blankly.

When I knew it was dead, I took a breath and got off of it, pulling my dagger from its head. Blood started to leak from it but I didn't pay it any mind.

I clicked my tongue when I looked at my wound, my skin was open and it traced back to the werewolf's teeth. I walked to the water and took off my coat. I washed the wound with water, hissing every time I touch it.

When I finished, I turned to the girl to see her terrified form. Her body was shaking and she covered her mouth.

She kept saying thank you and I was beginning to feel frustrated, so I decided to pick up my hunt and go finish my work.

She stopped talking but when I looked back at her, she smiled at me and waved.

I won the game, barely. Delora was right behind me before I crossed the finish line with my hunt. I fell to my knees after I crossed the line, Sen and Van rushed towards me with concerned faces.

I was losing too much blood and my mind was foggy, I was losing consciousness. Medic came fast and stitched me up.

My body went rigid, so it was them. The reason why mermaids are going extinct. They hunt for games and entertainment, not caring for the lives of the others.

A frown was on my face the whole night, still thinking about the game. They hunt mermaids, now they're going extinct. It's their fault, werewolves.

I didn't notice Sen talking to me until she pinched me.

I may have killed it but that doesn't mean I have no heart. I had to do what had to be done.

The werewolf tried to kill the mermaid and ignored me, which is a big mistake.

Sen seems to notice my change in demeanor, so she got up and left.

I sighed and rubbed my eyes, yawning. I was really tired from what happened and my arm still hurts.

I fell on the bed and positioned myself on the side so that I won't sleep on my injured arm.

Werewolves hunt mermaids for sport. The fear and despair in her eyes when I saw her, I felt something inside me, something red. She lives in a world where their lives mean nothing.

It sent shivers down my spine, I will never hesitate to kill a werewolf if I witness them hunt for mermaids.

Now that I mention it, the person in-charge of the game must've done the rules and the points.

The Alpha.
