Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon answers a sudden request to speak at the U.

S. Capitol Building. Before the lecture can begin, a disturbing relic bearing five encoded symbols is found on the premises, and he reads it as an ancient invitation into a vanished realm of esoteric and dangerous knowledge.

Then his mentor, Peter Solomon, a lifelong Mason and respected philanthropist, is kidnapped, leaving Langdon no path to save him except to accept that invitation.
