Chapter Twenty-eight – Completely, Sweetly

Chapter Twenty-eight

Revenge

COMPLETELY, SWEETLY

Performed by The Dead South

From the darkness of her bedroom, I watched as the light switched on in the cop’s room across the yard. The whore was smiling.

“Why are men so stupid, Eddie? Driven by nothing more than animal urges.”

I jerked when the blinds slammed down, blocking them from my view. I growled, frustrated at being pushed out of the front-row seat I’d had all summer and fall.

“You can’t hide from us, bitch. I’ll put cameras over there too,” I hissed.

No, no. Too risky. He’s a cop.

“You’re right. Too risky. Besides, we’re almost at the finish line. We’ve almost got her right where we want her.”

The buzz that had kept me going for hours vanished, leaving behind an ache that had me hungering for food to fill it. But I couldn’t afford more food. I’d already had more today than I should have.

You stuffed your face with cake.

The damn cake had been my downfall tonight.

I needed another shot to curb the urges, to stop me from eating until my sculpted body split in half. But I only had one shot left, unless I went back to the idiot for more, and that thought was enough to turn my stomach, ripping away the hunger.

I knew what the price would be if I sought him out, and I didn’t want him to touch me again.

“See, Eddie, I’m stronger now. I can fight the urges better than you ever did. You never could keep your dick out of her, even after you knew she’d betrayed us.”

I turned to surveil the room. I had work to do. Another warning to issue.

You need to find the fucking money.

“Maybe I’ll just take care of the whore and disappear with or without the money.”

You can’t do that. Vows are sacred. All vows, whether they’re issued to God or to family. Don’t you remember the price we paid for breaking promises?

I felt the burn of welts on my back, the sharp pain in my wrist as it broke.

“But it wasn’t me who borrowed the money and promised to double it, Eddie.”

The only promise I’d made was to get rid of Ariana.

I’d keep my vow. But I’d find the money too. I’d find it and use it to finally free myself from hell.
