Chapter Thirty-seven – The Lighthouse

Chapter Thirty-seven

Revenge

THE LIGHTHOUSE

Performed by Stevie Nicks

It had taken me longer than I’d wanted to park behind the bar and walk through the icy streets to Meadow Lane, but I wasn’t going to leave my SUV in front of her house.

When I finally reached Andie’s house, I’d expected to see her car, and a smug satisfaction flew through me at the sight of it.

I knew she’d be here, packing up her life and preparing to run. Coward. Thief. Whore.

What I hadn’t expected was the other car parked across the street at the fire chief’s house. A tremor ran through me.

Why was Auntie here? Why now?

Eddie’s hysterical laugh sent goosebumps up my spine. She knows. She knows everything, and she’s going to kill you.

I shook my head. She didn’t know. She didn’t know anything.

She’d been busy handling the idiot drug dealer and developing the packaging for their product. She’d told me to handle Ariana.

She didn’t believe you could do it. You’ve failed so many times, Blubbo.

“I haven’t failed. Not this time. You just wait, Eddie. Revenge is coming. I’m not unprepared. She can’t wrap me up in a tight little bow like she’d wrapped you and Dad.”

That shut him up.

I opened my purse and glanced down at the pearl-handled pistol with a wry smile.

Fitting that it had fallen back into my hands at this exact moment.

The gun that had killed Dad and thrust us into Auntie’s care, the gun that had killed Eddie when it was meant for Ariana, would finally finish it all. The idiot cop had left it in his rig while worrying about a woman who didn’t deserve his concern.

I knew he’d come back to the ranch to look at the camera footage after I’d planted the seeds of doubt in his mind. It had just been a matter of patience waiting him out.

I’d outsmarted them all.

They’d underestimated me.

Even Eddie had…

But after today, no one ever would again.
