Author's pov-
The moment Divya disappeared from sight, purv exhaled, running a hand through his hair. He turned to Vaani, his expression unreadable. "Say what you have to and leave."
Vaani raised an eyebrow, stepping closer. "Still so impatient, purv."
He clenched his jaw. "I'm not in the mood for your games."
Her smirk faltered just a little, but she quickly recovered. "Fine. I'll get to the point." She crossed her arms. "Why are you doing this?"
Purv frowned. "Doing what?"
"This." She gestured vaguely toward the direction where Divya had left. "Getting close to someone again."
Something in purv's chest tightened. "That's none of your business, Vaani."
She scoffed. "You think I don't know you? You think I don't see the way you're fighting yourself? The way you look at her like she's something you want but can't have?"
Purv's fingers curled into fists, his voice dropping. "I said, stay out of it."
Vaani sighed, shaking her head. "I'm not here to start a fight, purv. I'm just... surprised."
"Surprised?" He let out a humourless chuckle. "Why? Because you thought I was incapable of feeling anything after you left?"
Vaani flinched, and for the first time, she looked less like the confident girl who had walked out of the car and more like someone who had lost something, too.
"I didn't leave by choice," she muttered.
Purv's stomach twisted, but he didn't let it show. "Doesn't change anything."
Vaani studied him for a long moment. "You're scared, aren't you?"
He stiffened. "Of what?"
"Of hurting her," she said simply. "The way you hurt me."
Purv's throat tightened. "I never meant to-"
"I know," she interrupted, her voice softer now. "But that doesn't erase what happened."
A heavy silence stretched between them.
After a moment, Vaani sighed. "I just wanted to see you. To see if you've changed."
Purv met his gaze, his voice quieter now. "And?"
She smiled faintly. "You have. But some things... some fears don't just disappear."
He looked away. "I don't need you to remind me."
Vaani studied him for a moment longer before stepping back. "I hope she's worth it, purv. Because if you push her away the way you pushed me, you might not get another chance."
With that, she turned, walking back to her car.
Purv didn't watch her leave.
Instead, he stood there, staring at the empty road, his mind a storm of emotions he wasn't ready to face.
And all he could think about was Divya.
