Unspoken battles

Author's pov-

The rooftop was quiet except for the faint hum of the city below. Purv's hand was still in Divya's, his grip firm yet hesitant-like he was scared of holding on too tightly.

Divya stared at their intertwined fingers, tracing patterns on his skin with her thumb. A part of her wanted to bask in this silence, to let it stretch on forever. But another part of her- the part that overthought everything- was restless.

"You're scared of losing me," she murmured, breaking the quiet.

Purv's gaze didn't waver. "Yeah."

"Why?"

He exhaled sharply, looking up at the sky as if searching for an answer in it. "Because I ruin things, Divya. People. I don't mean to, but I do."

She shook her head. "That's not true."

"It is," he said, his voice colder now. "You've seen it. My anger. The way I react. You really think you'll be any different?"

Divya tightened her grip on his hand. "Yes."

Purv's expression didn't change, but something in his posture did. Like he was trying not to believe her, but failing.

She sighed, shifting closer. "You think you'll ruin me, but Purv... You've been the only person who ever made me feel seen."

His throat bobbed as he swallowed, his eyes locked onto hers with an intensity that made her heart race.

"That night at the fresher's party," she continued softly. "I felt invisible. Like I didn't belong anywhere. And then you looked at me, and for the first time in a long time, I felt like I existed."

Purv didn't say anything, but his grip on her hand tightened, his breathing a little uneven.

Divya hesitated before asking the one thing that had been nagging at her. "Do you regret what we did at your penthouse the other day?"

His jaw clenched. "No."

"Then why do you keep pushing me away?"

He let out a frustrated sigh, running a hand through his hair. "Because I don't want to be the reason you get hurt."

"You're not," she insisted. "Purv, you don't get to decide that for me."

His eyes flashed with someone unreadable. "I need you to understand that I'm not good for you."

Divya held his gaze, her voice steady. "And I need you to understand that I don't care."

A tense silence followed.

Then, before she could react, purv reached out, his fingers brushing against her cheek before he cupped her face completely.

"You should care," he murmured. "Because I don't know if I can stop myself from wanting you."

Divya's breath hitched, her pulse skyrocketing.

She had no idea who moved first, but the next thing she knew, their lips were inches apart. The air between them crackled, heavy with unspoken words and unresolved emotions.

And just as purv was about to close the distance-

"Divya?"

They both froze.

Divya's eyes widened as she recognised the voice.

Aditya.

She turned toward the entrance of the rooftop, where he stood, his expression unreadable.

Purv instantly pulled away, his jaw tightening.

Aditya's gaze flickered between them before settling on Divya. "I've been looking for you."

Divya swallowed, glancing at purv, who had already masked his emotions behind his usual cold expression.

The moment was gone.

And something told her it wasn't coming back anytime soon.
