The realisation that burns

Author's pov-

The party had long ended, and purv found himself back at his penthouse, but sleep was nowhere near his grasp.

Rudra's words echoed in his mind- "you didn't want to know."

He had never questioned it before. Never wondered why Divya had left without a fight. He had convinced himself that she had simply moved on, that she had never loved him the way he once thought.

But now... now everything was tilting.

He poured himself a drink, staring at the skyline of Delhi through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

"Five years," hu muttered under his breath. "Five damn years."

She had loved him-had actually loved him enough to push someone away for his sake, while he was too blind to see it.

And the worst part?

He had let her go without a second thought.

---------------------------------------------------

Divya sat on her bed, legs curled up to her chest. Her phone was beside her, the screen dimming after yet another missed call from kaashi.

She didn't want to talk. Not now.

Kaashi's words from earlier had been poking at her mind.

"You still love him. You just don't want to admit it."

She scoffed under her breath. No, I don't.

Or atleast, she wished she didn't.

But no matter how much she tried to push the memories away, they clung to her like an unwanted ghost. The way she had broken piece by piece when he had left. The endless nights of convincing herself that time would dull the pain.

Yet here she was, five years later, and it still stung.

Why does it still bother me? She whispered to herself. Why does he still have this power over me?

---------------------------------------------------

Purv couldn't take it anymore.

He grabbed his phone, dialing a number before he could stop himself.

A few rings, then a groggy voice answered, "Bro, it's 2 AM. What do you want?"

"Where is she?"

Rudra was silent for a moment before sighing, "you really think I'll tell you that?"

"I need to see her."

"And say what? That you suddenly realised she meant something to you? That you regret never looking past your own damn arrogance?"

Purv's grip on his phone tightened. "Just tell me where she is, Rudra."

There was a pause. Then- "she's at her place. But don't do something you'll regret."

---------------------------------------------------

Fifteen minutes later, he was outside her door.

His heart was pounding, and for the first time in a long time, he hesitated.

Would she even open the door?

Would she even care that he was here?

He exhaled sharply and knocked.

Silence.

Then, after a few seconds, the door creaked open.

And there she was.

Barefoot, in an oversized tshirt, her long hair slightly messy from sleep.

She blinked up at him, expression unreadable. "What are you doing here, purv?"

His throat dried up. His carefully rehearsed words vanished.

Because standing here, looking at her like this, he realised something terrifying.

He had never stopped loving her.

And he had no idea what to do about it.
