The confrontation they couldn't avoid

Divya's hands were trembling by the time the dance ended. Not from fear, not from anger-but from the unbearable weight of emotions pressing against her chest.
She needed to get out of there. Away from him. Away from the suffocating intensity in his eyes that threatened to pull her back into something she had spent years escaping.
Without a word, she turned and walked off the dance floor. But she barely made it outside before a firm grip wrapped around her wrist, stopping her in her tracks.
"Enough running, Divya."
His voice was quiet but carried an unshakable determination.
She yanked her arm back, stepping away. "What do you want, purv?"
His jaw tightened. "You."
Her breath hitched, but she quickly masked it with a bitter laugh. "You don't get to say that. Not after everything."
He exhaled sharply, stepping closer, his eyes searching hers. "I know. I know I messed up. I know I hurt you."
She scoffed. "Hurt me? You broke me, purv. And the worst part? You didn't even care."
His face twisted in something dangerously close to regret. "That's not true."
"Then what is the truth?" She snapped. "Because from where I stand, you walked away without a second thought. You left me like I was nothing, and now, after five years, you suddenly care?"
He ran a hand through his hair, frustration evident in his every movement. "I never stopped caring, damn it!"
Divya laughed humorlessly. "Really? Because you seemed just fine without me. While I-" she stopped herself, swallowing hard.
He took a step forward, his voice softer now. "While you what?"
She shook her head. "It doesn't matter anymore."
"It does to me."
"Why?" She whispered, finally looking up at him.
He exhaled, his shoulders dropping. "Because I can't stay without you, Divya. I thought I could. I thought I had moved on. But everytime I see you, everytime I hear your voice, it's like... like I can breath again."
She stared at him, her heart hammering against her ribs.
"You don't get to say this now, purv," she whispered, her voice thick with emotions. "You don't get to comeback and ruin everything I built for myself."
His expression darkened. "Is that really what you think? That I'm here to ruin you?"
She hesitated. "You showing up in my life again... it's dangerous, purv."
His gaze softened, and for the first time, there was something almost vulnerable in his eyes. "Not as dangerous as the way I feel about you."
Her breath caught.
"Tell me you feel nothing," he said quietly, stepping so close that she could feel his warmth. "Tell me these past five years have erased everything. And I'll walk away."
She opened her mouth to say it. To end this before it could hurt her again.
But the words wouldn't come.
Because deep down, she knew she was lying.
And purv? He knew it too.
