Chapter Thirty-Six #2

Wolf trails a finger between my thighs, humming in appreciation.

I tremble, arching my back for more. More pressure, more him, just more.

He ticks his tongue behind his teeth as I shove the too-big leathers off me, and they fall to the floor. One corner of his mouth curves up into a teasing, self-satisfied smirk. “Greedy, are we?”

Wolf works his finger in a soft spiral, and I see stars. He works the pressure tighter and tighter, building me up with an infuriatingly expert touch.

He knows exactly what he’s doing, and it only makes each touch all the hotter.

“Are you going to make me beg?”

He increases the pressure, and I gasp. Wolf chuckles, working his lips over the line of my collarbone and down to my breast again.

I throw my head back with a cry.

Two can play at this game. If he wants to tease, I can tease too. I can drive him wild.

I reach for the buttons of his leathers. They give easily under my fingers, and I shove them down past his muscled thighs to move my hands beneath the soft fabric underneath.

He jerks his head back, eyes slamming shut.

“Maeve,” he groans, and intoxicating power races through me. Is there anyone else he makes that sound for? Anyone else who gets to touch him like this—to see him simply surrendering?

I work his length long and hard against my thighs, and Wolf buries his face in my shoulder. His teeth bite at the skin there, blurring that delicious boundary between pleasure and pain.

One hand tilts my jaw away from him, exposing more of my flushed skin to his lips, and he pauses, trailing one finger down the length of the silver chain—to the charm tangled in the hair behind my neck.

His eyes heat, like he can feel the power tingling from it.

“Pregnancy prevention charm,” I whisper, moving my fingers in his hair.

A slow, wicked smile curls his mouth, and he teases the fingers of his left hand along my jaw, drawing them away just long enough to show me the simple silver band around his little finger. Power ripples off it, and heat pools low in my belly as he leans in. “Same.”

I feel him against me, waiting. His eyes search mine, and the longing there scorches any lingering doubts I could have ever had to ash.

“I need you, Maeve.”

“I want you,” I answer, and guide him into me. “Right. Now.”

He kisses me once, twice, before he sinks into me, slowly, stretching each inch. I yield to him, letting him fill me, push me, until my mind can’t hold on to a single thought beyond the one word anchoring us—

Yes.

I want him. All of him—every scar, every secret, every last inch of the scorched earth we’ll leave behind us in our wake.

My breath comes in pants, tight and ragged. He moves slowly, testing me, and I only pull him closer. Lift my hips to meet his, gasping at the feel of him.

“How do you feel so good?” Wolf’s groan sends heat curling down my spine, and I arch that extra fraction of an inch closer to him. His whole body rocks as it meets mine, pushing me farther up the bed, right into the headboard. My fingers knot behind me in the wooden rails there.

The grip gives me the leverage to push back at him, to lift and arch my hips to his. That’s all it takes for him to find the angle that sends stars bursting across my vision, and desperate pleasure coils to the point of pain—

My nails claw down his back, his ass, trying to force him deeper.

I need him not to stop.

His arms wrap around me, pressing my body close to his, and he rolls so I’m on top of him. My body reacts like it already knows exactly how he’ll feel at this angle, and I rock my hips into his.

Wolf’s eyes lock on mine, drinking me in. The haze swimming in the green intoxicates me. Blurs the edges of reality, and of this.

Of us.

We exist outside of time, outside of everything—and everyone—else.

He bucks beneath me, driving deeper, and my heart stammers. My breaths turn to gasps, and every muscle in me locks.

Wolf pulls me down to him, his tongue meeting mine, and he reaches one hand down between us. Finally—fucking finally—he gives me the pressure I crave there. His breath heats the skin beneath my ear, and he whispers. “Let me see you come, Maeve.”

I fall apart in his arms then. No—I don’t just unravel. I implode, shattering into pieces I already know will be impossible to put back together again.

Wolf flips me over again, so fast my head spins, and drives into me. There’s no control in these thrusts. No thought, no desire, no wanting.

Just need, pure and hungry and desperate—and I can’t get enough.

His mouth claims mine, feral and wild. I match every stroke of his tongue, dig my nails into his ass and pull him closer, as if that’s even possible.

And he explodes, a ragged groan filling my ears as he shudders and buries himself in me.

I hold him right there against me, refusing to let go, both our chests heaving.

My limbs feel like liquid, as if someone scooped out the marrow of my bones and poured it back in again.

I close my eyes, and his lips find mine again.

Slower, but no less intoxicating.

His chest is as warm as home against me. The smell of him—Old Ones, I can’t get enough—and just the feeling of him pulling me tightly into the nook of his arm is enough to light that same fire all over again inside me.

This, some contented, calm part of me murmurs, I could get used to this.

And the dangerous part is… I mean it.

I’m so fucked when it comes to him.
