Chapter Fifteen

Camilla

“Ineed to get out of this bed,” Harris grumbled, lifting the covers off him.

I smacked his hand away, pushing him back against his pillows.

We were currently back at the beach house, and it was the next day.

I was still in shock about everything that had happened.

I’d killed a being. I’d helped to save my orc.

When my father and Sam appeared, after hearing my screams for help, with Harris passed out, they got him back to the house, where Kaylor remained to heal him.

There were so many injured that she had to call in for backup .

“You need to stay in bed today. Just take a day where you don’t do anything.

Paulo has everything under control. He’s taking care of the families of those who died.

He’s a good right-hand. The witches are investigating how to stop the shadow creatures from getting back into our realm, or at least get alerted to their presence.

It’s not a huge problem now, but they aren’t going to wait for it to become one.

” I sat down beside him on the bed and placed a hand on his bare chest, the scars from his injuries still there but healing rapidly.

“My dad seems a lot better. I thought his being back in that realm would break him, but it didn’t.

I’m convinced Argo was making him worse.

But I think things are going to be okay.

So, rest for once. You almost died saving me, which scared the hell out of me. ”

He looked down at my hand and picked it up, kissing the fingers before putting them back on his chest. “I’m sorry I let him hurt you. I let you down.”

I leaned forward and kissed his cheek. “No, honey. No. This wasn’t your fault, and I’m okay.”

“He didn’t?” His voice trailed off, but I saw the pain in his eyes.

I knew what he was asking. He didn’t need to know all that happened with that monster. I was fine and safe, and that was all that mattered. “He didn’t. I’m okay. Believe me. You came at the right time. You saved me.”

He shook his head, not listening, eyes haunted. No doubt he was envisioning killing Argo again and again. “He said…”

I placed my hands on both sides of his face, locking eyes. “He was just trying to rile you up. I’m okay, honey. We both made it through, and that fucker is dead.”

He closed his eyes, squeezing one of my hands. “He hurt you. I should have torn him to pieces.”

“You tore his throat out. You did what needed to be done. I’m okay. We’re okay.”

He opened his eyes, still giving me a sorrowful look. I knew it would eat at him that I was taken, and I would get him past it. We would get through all that happened together. We were a team now. “Are you hungry? You need to eat something.”

“How long was I asleep?” he asked.

“The whole day.”

“That’s a long time. I should check in on Paulo.”

I moved my hand against his collarbone. “If you try to leave here, I will throttle you. I don’t know why you’re so allergic to rest. Let someone else take care of things for once.”

He raised a brow, looking me over slowly with enough heat to melt my body. “Look at you with the threats. I kind of like it. What will you do if I try to get up?”

I opened my mouth to respond, but we were interrupted by a knock at the door. “Come in.”

“Go away,” Harris said at the same time.

I playfully slapped his chest as Sam came inside. Upon seeing Harris upright, he raised his hands in the air. “Big bro’s awake, whoo-hoo.”

Harris rolled his eyes. “Why are you so loud?”

He flopped down at the foot of the bed, unbothered by Harris’s usual grouchy mood. “Gotta admit, when I’d heard you fainted, I was worried.”

“I did not faint. I lost consciousness,” Harris said through clenched teeth.

I stifled a giggle and patted his shoulder sympathetically. I knew this would grate on him for a while, and Sam was essentially poking the bear now.

Sam tilted his head from side to side. “That’s what fainting is. But no worries, I carried you in my arms like a damsel in distress and got you home.”

Harris growled and kicked his foot out, pushing Sam almost off the bed, which he deserved.

Sam gave an exaggerated yelp, jumping up. “The thanks I get. Well, I’ll leave you two love birds alone. Just wanted to lay eyes on you before I left and make sure you were okay. And call your kid, she was freaking out.”

“Sam!” Harris called before his brother reached the door.

Sam turned with a questioning look.

Harris cleared his throat and then looked away, uncomfortable. “Thank you. You did well last night. I’m kind of proud of you.”

Sam’s usually playful eyes filled with emotion before he spread his wide grin across his face.

He gave a salute and then turned and left, closing the door behind him.

For once, he responded the right way. He needed to hear that praise, but he wouldn’t rub it in, at least not now.

Especially if he wanted to hear it again.

I looked back at Harris, clasping my hands together. “That was sweet of you to say.”

He shrugged. “I probably shouldn’t have said anything. He’s going to ride that for a while.”

“I know you’re just saying that. Your brother is trying to be better.”

“Yeah, I know. We all are. But he’s right, I do need to call my daughter.” He reached over to grab his phone on the side table, and I made a move to get up, but he grabbed my hand. “Stay. Please.”

I nodded and remained. It was heartwarming listening to him talk to her.

Seeing the paternal side of Harris was new for me.

I knew he could be soft with me, but it was different with his kid.

He was sweet. My grumpy, controlling, stubborn orc was a softie deep inside.

If he had any fear of being like his father, I’d say he conquered it despite his rough childhood.

He even told her about me, and she sounded happy he had found someone.

I wanted to be surprised, but then I remembered that she’d only ever known him single.

When he hung up the phone, I leaned in and kissed him. “Thank you for letting me listen. Sounds like you’re a good dad.”

He lifted a shoulder, uncomfortable with such praise as usual. “I could be better. And I will be. I can’t wait for you to meet her.”

I grinned, feeling way too giddy. “I’m looking forward to it. I’m sure she’s awesome, like her father.”

He patted his thighs, and I knew it was his nonverbal way to get me on him. “And you.”

I straddled him, smiling. “You should be resting.”

He bit his lower lip, clasping my waist. “This is how I rest. You were a badass last night. Although you don’t listen very well.”

“And you don’t know everything. Glad I didn’t listen.” I stuck my tongue out at him.

He playfully smacked my ass. “Thank you, you brat.” Then his eyes softened. “I mean it. I’m sorry for underestimating you.”

I ran my hands through his loose hair, still loving the feel of his long, silky strands. “You’re overprotective, and I understand it.” I kissed him again. “I love you.”

He hummed, and the bass he emitted vibrated my core. “Say that again.”

“I love you.”

“I love you, too, baby. You do know I want you to be my wife.”

I giggled. “I kind of figured that out.”

“I’ll try not to scare you with too much, so can we start with moving in together? I know that’s still fast, but I want you with me. I need you.”

And my heart melted in my chest. It was fast, I knew that. But I had loved him practically all my life. We’d been apart long enough. “I need you, too. And yes, I’ll move in with you after I sell my space.”

He pulled me closer to him until my chest bumped against his bare, hard one. “Oh, that’ll be easy work. You could also rent it out. I have someone who can help with all that.”

I leaned forward and sucked on his lower lip. “Of course you do.” I felt him twitch between my thighs, sparking my core once again. His hands slid over my ass, squeezing it. “You really don’t know how to rest. You have to heal.”

He gave me a lazy grin. “I just needed to be around you. I’ll heal faster that way.”

Heart skip. Who would have thought my orc would be such a sweety? I pushed him back against the pillows. “I don’t think it works that way, but I’m willing to give it a try. But you have to let me have control this time. No touching.”

He gave me a quizzical look because I knew the idea was foreign to him. I licked across his lips quickly and then got off him. Before he could complain, I tugged at his pajama bottoms and the top of his briefs. “Lift up.”

He did as he was told, lifting with a slight smile to his lips. “Yes, ma’am.”

I kind of liked him calling me that. I slid his bottoms down, and he helped me get them off.

I was greeted with his hardening dick resting on one of his magnificent, thick thighs.

I wrapped my hand around the base of him, squeezing as I slowly twisted my hand upwards.

His thighs tensed, and I leaned my hand on one of his muscled legs before leaning forward and flicking the crown of his head with my tongue.

I heard him breathe out a curse before I swiped my tongue over the glistening slit, then moved to the underside of his crown.

I then moved down the length of him, swiping my tongue from side to side as I moved.

My other hand went to his balls, massaging as I continued to suck him.

“Fuck, baby, let me touch you.”

I released him and began to stroke him again. He looked so beautiful under my control. His head tossed back, hair fanning over his shoulders. His dark green lips flushed from our kisses, his icy blue eyes glazed with desire. I loved it.

“No touching, love. Sorry, not sorry,” I replied, giving him a wicked wink.

“You’re loving this way too much,” he whispered, eyes fluttering from my hands.

“Absolutely. I love seeing you like this. What do you prefer, my hand or my mouth?”

“Both, sh-shit, yes, both. Ju-just don’t stop,” he shuddered.
