Chapter 21

Chapter Twenty-One

CAMERON

My phone buzzes with a text from Tally's mom, just a day after our chance encounter at The Indigo.

Last night when she'd asked for my number, I'd handed it over despite finding the request a bit strange.

Now, staring at her message, I understand exactly why she'd been so eager to get my contact information.

Sure. Am free tonight, don’t have a job to go to as I am transitioning into sports medicine and my fellowship doesn’t start for six months.

Oh my goodness, that would be perfect! Tally could use your help, even if she won’t come out and ask for it. See you at 7?

See you at 7.

I shake my head, staring at the message. Not from Tally. From her mother. Of course. Tally would sooner walk barefoot across hot coals than ask anyone for help.

Something clicks into place inside me, like a dislocated shoulder being reset. For the next six months, before my sports medicine fellowship starts, I've got nowhere to be. I could be there for her—help her figure out this whole baby thing. Even if the kid isn't mine, it's a part of her.

And God help me, I'd still walk through fire for that woman.
