12. NICK
Awaiter drifted over, tray in hand, presenting an array of cocktails and wine suitable for the evening’s affair. Opting for a glass of red, I allowed the rich blend to grace my palate as I strolled through the chic venue.
The waiter, sporting a confident grin suggested, “Sir, our signature cocktail is the talk of the night. Care for a surprise?”
With a nod, I accepted the concoction, savoring the mysterious fusion as I immersed myself in the vibrant atmosphere. The decors, an artful blend of sustainability and upscale aesthetics, caught my eye. The enormous sculpture by the reception area was a marvel of recycled materials but done in an artistic and classy way, symbolizing EcoChic Couture’s commitment to its cause. Smaller versions had been incorporated with driftwood and plants on the round tables.
In one area was a spectacular display of the designs worn by actual models, clothes that covered casual wear, evening wear, and loungewear.
A guest pointed excitedly at a particular garment. “Have you seen this? The detailing is insane.”
Impressed, I acknowledged, “Ms. Isabelle Turner’s truly outdone herself. She’s a genius at this.”
“Yes, definitely.”
The widescreen illuminated the space with the marketing video, a visual anthem to EcoChic Couture’s essence. Celebrities mingled, clinking glasses and toasting to a new era of sustainable fashion. I spotted several famous actors and actresses, as well as those from the music and fashion industry.
“This event is a big hit,” Catherine remarked as I passed by her. She, together with one of my trusted managers George, was ogling at the stunning guests and the overall appearance and appeal of the occasion.
Raising my glass in agreement, I concurred, “Couldn’t agree more.”
As the night unfolded, I found myself drawn to the sleek computers showcasing the official website. The tech-savvy interface mirrored Izzy’s forward-thinking vision. It had been one of her friends who had developed this. Kudos to him. It’s fantastic.
Another guest looked awestruck, tapping on the computer. “This website is a game-changer. Easy access to everything. And it’s just so modern-looking, but very convenient to use.”
His wife nodded in agreement adding, “And the designs are just awesome! I’m purchasing some right now.”
I knew the wealthy couple from my business circle. Smirking, I said, “Miss Turner’s vision had come to life, indeed. And it’s making waves!”
The focal point of the evening then shifted to Izzy herself, rocking her own creation. The mauve and cream dress she wore draped elegantly over her frame. Its earthy tones echoed a commitment to nature, while intricate detailing added a touch of sophistication. The bodice hugged her curves in all the right places, and gently opened to a flowing skirt. A plunging neckline, tastefully adorned with reclaimed glass and metals combined with sequins, exuded a perfect blend of glamour and consciousness.
I found myself staring intently, blown away by her amazing beauty and charm. She glowed with a unique radiance that emanated from her passion and joy.
Cameras flashed, reporters prodded, and Izzy, a vision of confidence, provided details behind EcoChic Couture.
A reporter inquired, “What’s the vibe of seeing your designs go big?”
Grinning, Izzy replied, “It’s surreal. Fashion with a message is the real flex.”
Observing from the sidelines, a surge of pride swelled within me. Izzy hadn’t just birthed a successful brand; she”d become a force shaking up the fashion scene.
“You’re super gorgeous tonight, Miss Izzy,” the reporter noted. “You look like a celebrity!” Then he laughed and corrected himself, “Oh, wait. No. I take it back. You are a celebrity!”
Izzy gave out a delightful laugh. “Thanks so much. I’ll take that compliment. I’m just so happy this evening, and I really hope everyone’s enjoying it as much as I am.”
“Oh, surely!”
Suddenly, her eyes shifted toward my direction. Our eyes locked in a momentary connection, and for a heartbeat, the world around us seemed to pause, leaving us suspended in a shared moment of stillness.
My heart soared, and I strode over to where she was standing. But then, she was suddenly whisked away by some celebrity guests.
“Nick…” I felt someone’s hand on my arm. When I turned to the person, I saw Sonya. A wave of irritation passed through me. Was she even invited to the event? Then I remembered that she was well-connected to some modeling agencies.
“Sonya,” I greeted curtly, nodding in a formal way.
She sidled up to me, batting her eyelashes. “Let me keep you company.”
“I’m sure there’s plenty of others who would appreciate that. But as for me, I’m quite busy. Anyway, why don’t you take a seat as the program’s about to start.” I gave her a polite nod again before walking away, my eyes searching the crowd once again for Izzy.
I heard my brother’s voice talking to her before I even saw them together.
There she was, basking in the attention my brother showered upon her, the admiration evident in his playful banter and flirtatious demeanor.
“You are something else, Izzy Turner!” he declared, making her giggle. “Why haven’t we heard of you before? You’ve rocked the fashion world! This is all so amazing!” Then leaning closer, he whispered in a theatrical type of way, “You’re amazing.” He was actually taking a selfie video of the two of them while he spoke, naturally for his vlog.
Perhaps he was just doing all that for the show, but it was giving me negative vibes. And I hated it.
Dan’s voice flowed smoothly, carrying an undertone of charisma as he led Izzy through the interview. A crowd had now gathered around them.
“So, Izzy, tell us about the inspiration behind EcoChic Couture. What made you dive into sustainable fashion?” Dan’s eyes sparkled with genuine interest.
Izzy chuckled, playing along. ”Well, Dan, it’s all about making a statement with style, you know? Fashion that doesn’t just look good but also does good for the environment. I’ve always been a nature lover, and my late father was my greatest inspiration.” She did not give the specifics, but I remembered the sad, unfortunate story about her dad.
Dan’s hand grazed Izzy’s arm lightly as he laughed. “Wow, that’s wonderful. And speaking of looking good, you’re absolutely killing it tonight. The gown, the vibe—everything’s on point.”
Izzy blushed. “Oh, stop it. I’m just doing my thing.”
“But seriously,” Dan continued, capturing the moment on his vlog camera, “how does it feel to have Nick Hale, the business mogul himself, backing your venture? Must be quite the journey.”
My heart skipped a beat as I moved closer and watched Izzy keenly.
Izzy grinned. “It”s been incredible. Mr. Hale saw the potential and believed in the cause. We’re turning dreams into reality…But wait, aren’t you a part of his company?”
Dan laughed, nodding. “Sort of. But he pulls all the strings.” Turning to the camera, he added, “You know me, guys! I’m just the fun, more good-looking twin.” He winked then, making all the people around them laugh. He was quite charismatic, which made him popular within a short period of time.
Dan leaned in, the atmosphere becoming charged, “And what’s the most exciting part for you, Izzy?”
Their eyes met a silent conversation unfolding between them. I narrowed my eyes, not liking it one bit.
“The most exciting part? Knowing that we’re making a difference. That, and the amazing people I get to work with.”
Dan cleared his throat jokingly. “Amazing people like me, you mean?”
“Yeah!” Izzy agreed with a laugh.
I wanted to congratulate Izzy once the camera had been turned off. But then, we were called to take our seats as the program started. I saw Izzy approach her best friend, Tanya, so I went ahead to the VIP table, where Dan sat with me.
He leaned in immediately, mischief in his eyes, and teased, “Nick, my beloved brother, you’ve got that ‘jealous boyfriend’ look. Are you sure you’re not catching feelings for Izzy? It seems like you’re finally falling for someone!”
I scoffed, dismissing the notion. “Don’t be ridiculous, Dan. We’re business partners.”
Dan chuckled, a carefree laugh that resonated in the lively ambiance around us. “Sure, sure. Admit it, brother, you like her.”
I shot him a stern look, my denial firm. “It’s not about liking or not liking. It’s about keeping things professional. We’ve got a business to run. So, you ought to watch yourself too.”
“Whoa! Alright!” he said jokingly. “Professionalism, professionalism. Life’s too short, Nick. So, I’m just enjoying the ride, unlike you. But hey, I’m not flirting for the sake of it, you know. I think I’m beginning to like her. After all, she’s super-hot and gorgeous.
Indeed. But keep your hands off.
As if on cue, Izzy approached our table, her smile radiant. My heart began to thump wildly. Was I really growing authentic feelings for this beautiful, talented, and intelligent woman?
“Congratulations, Izzy,” was all I said before Dan began chatting her up again.
“So, Izzy.” I heard him say without hesitation. “I was wondering if you’d go with me to the San Francisco Fashion Gala? As my date, of course.”
I was shocked. My heart beat crazily as I waited for her to respond.
