CHAPTER SEVEN #3
"I'll be damned," Vihaan murmured, having walked up behind his second-in-command. He watched Rudraksh and Serena with a faint smile. "A Monarch and an Amazon. I pity the insurgents."
"Alright, ladies," Vihaan commanded, raising his voice to cut through the ambient chatter. "Finish your coffee. Briefing room. Ten minutes."
***
The tactical war room of the Northern Military Station was a technological marvel buried deep beneath the rock. A holographic projection table dominated the center of the room, displaying a three-dimensional, rotating map of a jagged, treacherous mountain pass known as the Zanskar Ridge.
Vihaan stood at the head of the table, bathed in the blue light of the holomap.
Rudraksh stood to his immediate right, with Serena positioned flawlessly at Rudraksh’s shoulder, a tablet in her hand.
The rest of the operatives from both teams surrounded the table, all traces of friendly banter gone. They were in the zone.
"Operation Avalanche," Vihaan began, his voice echoing with authority.
"Intelligence indicates a high-altitude insurgent incursion moving through the Zanskar Ridge.
They are heavily armed, carrying anti-aircraft munitions, and they know the terrain.
We are initiating a joint-forces exercise to test our response to a fortified, elevated hostile presence. "
Vihaan planted his hands on the edge of the glass table, looking around the room.
"The Northern Command will act as the kinetic anvil.
Apex, Viper, you will lead the assault teams to secure the lower choke points.
We will box them in and provide the overwhelming firepower required to suppress their munitions. "
"The anvil is useless if we don't know where to strike," Rudraksh’s deep, gravelly voice took over seamlessly. He looked at Vihaan, a perfect tactical synergy forming between the two commanders. "Which is why my team will act as the intelligence hammer."
Rudraksh stepped back half a pace, yielding the floor to Serena.
Serena stepped forward, tapping a sequence on her tablet. The holographic map shifted, illuminating heat signatures, wind-shear vectors, and predicted hostile movement patterns in glowing red.
"The insurgents are relying on the blizzard conditions to mask their thermal footprint," Serena stated, her voice cool, analytical, and commanding.
She held the attention of every hardened killer in the room without an ounce of effort.
"They move in staggered columns, utilizing the deep ravines to avoid satellite detection. "
She pointed to a narrow, treacherous path on the hologram.
"Vantage, Talon. You will ascend the eastern ridge under the cover of night.
Talon, you will establish overwatch at an elevation of fourteen thousand feet.
You will have a zero-visibility window, relying on the telemetry Phantom routes to your scope. "
"Understood, Major," Aditya Rathore confirmed quietly, his sniper’s mind already calculating the bullet drop in high-altitude crosswinds.
"Ignition, Suture," Serena continued, her dark eyes locking onto the driver and medic. "You will stage the armored extraction rovers three klicks from the primary engagement zone. The terrain is ice over shale. Do not blow the transmission, Vivaan, or you will be walking home."
"I treat my rovers better than I treat myself, Bhabhi," Vivaan grinned, unfazed by the formal setting.
Serena ignored the title, pressing a final button on her tablet. The map pulsed, showing a convergence point.
"The Northern Command will draw their fire," Serena concluded, looking directly at Colonel Vihaan.
"Once they mobilize their munitions to suppress your assault, Monarch and I will infiltrate the upper ridge, dismantle their command structure, and secure the anti-aircraft weaponry.
We strike fast, we break their communication lines, and we let the anvil crush what remains. Control, disable, disengage."
Vihaan stared at the projection, his tactical mind running the variables. It was a brilliant, incredibly dangerous strategy. It required trust between the ground assault and the intelligence infiltrators.
He looked up, meeting Rudraksh’s dark, unreadable eyes, and then looking at Serena’s fierce, unwavering gaze.
"A hammer and an anvil," Vihaan agreed, a slow, predatory smile spreading across his handsome face. He looked around the room at the combined might of his men and the Monarch’s team. "Suit up. We leave at zero-six-hundred."
The war room emptied rapidly as the operatives moved to prep their gear. Rudraksh lingered for a moment, watching Serena as she seamlessly updated the atmospheric data on her tablet.
He reached out, his gloved hand catching hers, his thumb brushing over the cool metal of the platinum ring.
"Are you ready for the ice, Blaze?" Rudraksh asked softly.
Serena looked up, the harsh blue light of the hologram reflecting in her eyes. She offered him a smile that promised devastation to anyone who stood in their way.
"I am the storm, Monarch," she whispered. "The ice should be ready for me."
