CHAPTER SIXTEEN
The early morning light filtering through the blackout curtains of the Major General’s bungalow was a soft, muted grey.
The sprawling, ranch-style home on the Central Cantonment was wrapped in an insulated silence, a stark contrast to the relentless, grinding tension of the military lockdown outside its walls.
Major General Rudraksh Ashmehr-Vohn woke up with the slow, steady rhythm of his wife’s heartbeat echoing against his chest.
He didn't move immediately. He lay perfectly still on the king-sized bed, his broad, heavily chest rising and falling in tandem with hers.
Serena was draped over him, her head resting securely in the crook of his neck, her dark hair a beautiful, chaotic tangle across his skin.
One of her long, bare legs was tangled with his, and her left hand—adorned with the sleek platinum diamond and the ancient gold bangle—rested directly over his heart.
Rudraksh turned his head slightly, his dark eyes taking in the serene, unguarded expression on her face.
The shadows of the manhunt, the crushing weight of his division command, the lingering terror of the Cantonment bombing—all of it evaporated the moment he looked at her.
He felt a deep, anchoring peace that settled into the very marrow of his bones.
Slowly, reverently, he moved his large hand, trailing his fingertips down the smooth, warm expanse of her bare back, tracing the dip of her spine until his palm came to rest over the gentle, newly defined curve of her sixteen-week pregnant stomach.
The physical reality of it—that his fierce, untouchable Amazon warrior was carrying their child—sent a surge of territorial devotion rushing through his blood.
Serena stirred under his touch. A soft, breathy sigh escaped her lips, her dark eyelashes fluttering against his collarbone. She shifted, her body instinctively seeking closer contact, her hips pressing flush against his.
Rudraksh’s breathing hitched, a low, gravelly hum vibrating in his chest as the heat between them instantly flared. He shifted his weight, expertly rolling them over until he was hovering above her, trapping her gently beneath his frame.
Serena opened her eyes. They were dark, free of their usual tactical sharpness, filled instead with a sleep-drenched warmth. A slow, incredibly devastating smile touched her lips.
"Good morning, Monarch," she whispered, her British cadence thick and raspy. She reached up, her cool fingers threading into the dark hair at the nape of his neck.
"Good morning, Blaze," Rudraksh murmured, his voice a dark, rough purr.
He didn't rush. There was no perimeter to secure, no briefing to attend for another two hours.
He lowered his head, pressing his lips to the pulse point jumping at the base of her throat.
He felt her breath catch, her fingers tightening in his hair.
He kissed a slow, burning trail up her neck, across the sharp line of her jaw, before finally capturing her mouth.
The kiss was an act of worship. It was deep, consuming, and unhurried.
His tongue slid past her lips, tasting the warm, sweet intimacy of her mouth, demanding everything, and giving everything in return.
Serena sighed into the kiss, her body melting into the mattress.
She arched her back slightly, her breasts brushing against the hard, muscle of his chest, the friction sending a jolt of liquid heat straight to her core.
Rudraksh broke the kiss, his breathing growing ragged. His dark eyes burned with an intense, singular focus. He looked down at her beautiful, flushed face, and then his gaze dropped, sweeping over the sleek, athletic lines of her body, lingering with reverence on the swell of her stomach.
He moved lower, his large hands gripping her hips. He pressed open-mouthed, burning kisses down the center of her chest, lingering over the soft swell of her breasts, before burying his face against her stomach.
"Rudraksh," Serena gasped softly, her hands sliding down to grip his broad shoulders as he pressed a tender, fiercely protective kiss directly over her womb.
He moved back up, his calloused hands sliding up the smooth length of her thighs, gently parting them.
He worshipped her body with a devastating, methodical precision, mapping every inch of her skin with his hands and his mouth.
He knew exactly where to touch, exactly how much pressure to apply to unravel her legendary composure.
When his fingers finally sought the slick, burning heat between her thighs, Serena cried out, her head throwing back against the pillows.
She was at his mercy. He stroked her expertly, his thumb finding the sensitive peak, circling, and pressing until her hips began to lift and chase his hand in a desperate, primal rhythm.
"Please," she whimpered, the sound shattering the quiet room, her tactical discipline obliterated by the sheer, overwhelming pleasure he was drawing from her.
"I'm right here," Rudraksh growled, his voice thick with raw need.
He moved over her, settling between her thighs. He supported his weight on his forearms, looking deep into her dark, dilated eyes. He wanted her to see him, to feel the unyielding devotion he held for her. With one slow, incredibly deep thrust, he buried himself inside her.
Serena cried out his name, her nails digging into the musculature of his back. The connection was a soul-deep joining that transcended the physical. She wrapped her long legs around his waist, anchoring him to her, lifting her hips to meet every agonizingly deep thrust.
They moved together in a desperate rhythm, the only sounds in the room their synchronized, ragged breathing and the soft, staccato gasps falling from Serena’s lips. Rudraksh pushed her higher and higher, his thrusts growing harder, faster, consumed by the fire in his blood.
When the climax finally ripped through her, Serena shattered, her body bowing off the mattress as wave after wave of blinding pleasure crashed over her.
Rudraksh felt her walls clench tightly around him, and with a hoarse, guttural roar, he followed her over the edge, pouring himself into her, spent.
He collapsed heavily against her, being careful to keep his weight off her stomach, burying his face in the crook of her neck. Their bodies remained intimately joined, their chests heaving, their hearts hammering a frantic, unified beat.
Rudraksh pressed soft, lingering kisses to her sweat-dampened collarbone, holding her fiercely. Serena ran her fingers through his hair, her eyes closed, feeling a sense of satisfaction. The war outside their walls ceased to exist. In his arms, she felt blissful, protected, and at peace.

Two hours later, the idyllic peace of the morning was replaced by the cold, unforgiving reality of the Cantonment.
Major General Rudraksh Ashmehr-Vohn stood in the foyer of the bungalow, fully dressed in his combat fatigues. The aura of the Monarch was back in place.
Serena stood before him, dressed in comfortable dark leggings and a loose cashmere sweater. She was working from home today, running encrypted data analytics from her secure terminal in the living room while the hunt for Imran Dagha continued.
Rudraksh pulled her into a firm, lingering kiss, resting his hand protectively over her stomach one last time before stepping back.
"Talon and Ignition are on the perimeter," Rudraksh stated, his dark eyes locking onto hers, shifting immediately into his hyper-vigilant command mode. "They have a four-man rotating guard covering the blind spots. The automated defense grid is active. You do not leave this house, Serena."
"I am perfectly content to stay on the sofa with my laptop, Rudraksh," Serena assured him, offering a fond, exasperated smile. "Go hunt your ghosts. I will be exactly here when you get back."
Rudraksh gave her one final, intense look, nodded, and walked out the teakwood doors, securing the electronic deadbolts behind him.

Ten minutes later, Rudraksh strode into the heavily fortified Command Center of the Cantonment.
The room was a hive of frantic, tense energy.
Armaan Trivedi, Faraz Iqbal, Rohan Malhotra, and Ishaan Mehta were already assembled around the primary holographic projection table.
The joint task force, utilizing assets from RAW and Military Intelligence, had been running grid sweeps for days, but the results were maddeningly empty.
"Sitrep," Rudraksh barked, shedding his jacket and throwing it over a chair as he stepped up to the console.
"Nothing, Boss," Armaan grunted, running a frustrated hand over his face.
"We have run thermal imaging over every abandoned bunker, every storage depot, and every subterranean access tunnel on the base. Imran Dagha’s cell has vanished.
The lockdown is. They haven't breached the outer walls, which means they are still inside the perimeter. "
Rohan typed furiously on his keyboard. "Dagha is the strategist. He knows we are scanning the abandoned sectors. He knows we expect him to hide in the dark."
"If he isn't hiding in the dark, where the hell is he?" Ishaan muttered, staring at the digital map of the twenty-thousand-troop installation.
Rudraksh’s dark eyes narrowed, his tactical mind running the variables.
"He is paralyzed by the lockdown. He can't communicate outward without tripping our nets, and he can't move without hitting a checkpoint.
If he isn't in the abandoned sectors, he is hiding in plain sight.
Keep sweeping the active residential grids. They have to be somewhere."

Imran Dagha was indeed paralyzed by the lockdown.
The Khaalis Cell Commander, known by his callsign Zahar, crouched in the suffocating darkness of a storm drainage culvert beneath the Cantonment’s southern residential block.
