THIRTY-SIX
That evening, she told Matt about Jamie Finch’s visit, leaving what he’d said about Matt’s company until the end.
‘There’s some truth in it,’ Matt admitted. He looked tired. ‘Seems I’m not as good at negotiations as I thought.’
‘If we have to . . .’ she began, then stopped.
‘Yes?’
‘If you need the money, and there’s no other way, then let’s accept his offer.’ She spoke calmly, but inwardly she was screaming, like that mythical plant Rosemary had written about in one of her emails.
For a long moment, Matt considered. Then he shook his head. ‘No. We stick to the plan. If we win, we can always go back to him with a counter. Besides, I don’t like time-expiring offers. They always feel like someone’s trying to jump you into making the wrong decision.’
