Epilogue

John

Two Months Later

The biggest, greatest surprise of my life was meeting Kara. The moment our eyes met, I knew that there was something special about her. My wolf felt the connection immediately, and I was glad I listened.

In the midst of turmoil and danger, our love and our bond prevailed, and the last two months were a testament to that. There was so much more good to come.

“We have a huge thing to ask,” Gemma said as she and Aiden sat on the loveseat adjacent to the leather couch Kara and I were lounging on. She shared a nervous but eager look with her mate, who kept his arm protectively and lovingly wrapped around her shoulders. At this point, she was about to pop since she had twins on the way.

Kara leaned against my side as she tilted her head at Gemma. “What is it?”

Hope gleamed in Gemma’s eyes as she joined her hands together in a pleading manner. “Will you be my midwife? You have so much experience, and there’s no other person I trust to help me through the birth of my twins.”

Kara’s eyes widened as she sat up. She placed her hand over her heart. “Really?”

Pride beamed on my face as I rubbed Kara’s back, knowing that she would do a hell of a job. She was gifted and skilled in so many different ways, and she still strived to help people around here. It was in her blood.

“Absolutely. We trust you,” Aiden spoke up as he shared a warm look with Gemma.

“I’d be honored,” Kara said with an eager nod.

Gemma clambered to her feet, her hand holding her round stomach. When Kara stood, they threw their arms around each other in a tight embrace.

I glanced over at Aiden, who grinned at me. We were both over the moon with our mates and with the peace that we finally experienced in our lives. No more bloodshed. No more fights.

Aiden looked away when his phone started ringing. “It’s Paul.”

Gemma and Kara took their seats as Aiden answered.

“Hey, Paul. I’m with Gemma, Kara, and John. You’re on speaker,” Aiden told him.

“Hey, guys,” Paul greeted us.

We all called out our greetings. Paul had been stuck across the country making sure the pack thrived and didn’t tear each other to pieces. Thankfully, Vince stood by his word and ruled effectively and fairly.

“Wish you and Sofia and the baby were here!” Kara called out.

I smiled a little, hearing the longing in her voice. She missed Sofia, whom she fought so valiantly for, and I knew she was very excited to see the baby. There was a lot of baby fever going on around here. Or pup fever, I supposed.

“That’s actually why I’m calling. I’m coming home! And I’m bringing Sofia and her son with me,” Paul told us.

My jaw dropped. They were finally coming home. We had all been splintered and separated for so long, and we would all finally be together soon. “That’s great!”

“That’s awesome. Really. If you need anything or any help getting over here, let us know,” Aiden said, rubbing Gemma’s arm as she beamed.

After Paul filled us in on some pack news, he hung up to spend time with Sofia and her son. Aiden pocketed his phone with a chuckle. “Paul and Sofia are a thing. They have to be.”

The rest of us nodded in agreement. They hadn’t explicitly said anything yet, but they didn’t have to. It was obvious.

“Paul would make a great dad,” I said. He had the patience, kindness, and protectiveness that was needed, and he already took care of Sofia’s son like she was his own anyway.

“He would,” Gemma agreed before giving us a pointed look. “Now, all we’re waiting on is for you two to contribute to the future of the pack.”

Aiden and Gemma laughed, while Kara and I shared an amused smile. We had news of our own to share too, and the excitement felt like it was rattling beneath my skin, dying to be let out.

“We are. Kara and I are expecting,” I said, the words bursting from me as a proud grin formed on my face.

A look of shock plastered itself on Aiden’s and Gemma’s faces for a few seconds before they got to their feet and dragged us into tight embraces.

“This is amazing!” Gemma gasped as she nearly squeezed the breath out of Kara, who laughed.

“We’ve been dying to tell you!” Kara replied.

Aiden patted me on the back. “I’m happy for you two. We were hoping it would happen soon.”

“Me too. We’ve been really wanting this,” I said before looking over at Kara, my chest aching at the sight of pure love in her eyes.

This was a whole new adventure for us. We had already gone through so much together, but this would be the most incredible journey ever. We would create a family of our own, and there was no one else that I wanted to go down this road with.

Kara gravitated to me as Gemma and Aiden expressed their excitement to each other. She wrapped her arms around my neck and smiled up at me. “I couldn’t ask for a better life. A better mate. I love you.”

I rested my forehead against hers as my hands settled on the small of her back, pressing her closer to me. Soon, she would start showing, and things would become that much more real. I couldn’t wait.

“I love you. And I love our pup on the way.”
