Chapter 14

Soren

“You didn’t answer my question, Pru.” He tempered the eagerness in his voice.

The never before experienced anticipation that was clamoring to get out.

This…feeling…was so needy. So unlike him.

Usually he appreciated a woman and moved on.

But Pru…he appreciated the moment with her in her bedroom over and over in his mind.

The level of appreciation had hit such an all time high that he couldn’t stop thinking of her.

Her face. Her gasp. Her pleasure. Having never smoked opium, he could only imagine that this was the addiction men felt to it. Needed another hit.

“Which question?” Pru asked innocently.

“My question about your second question.” He watched as her eyes dropped to his lips. Then his hands. Then her own fingers entwined in front of her waist as she took a few steps to the side where she could study the spines of several books.

“Oh…that…” Her trembling fingers running along the bookshelf betrayed her flat tone.

“Have you prepared it?”

She darted a look over her shoulder at him and a rampaging herd of rhinoceroses stampeded through his stomach. Secondary to that feeling was the question as to whether rhinoceroses even traveled in herds or not.

“I have given it some thought.” Her words trailed behind her moving body which was only taking her further away from him, so of course he couldn’t stop his feet from aiming themselves to a point where he could cut her off.

“Tell me your thoughts.”

“I don’t know if I should.”

“Why not?”

“Here?”

“I cannot think of a more apropos place for learning than a library.”

She chuckled softly and peered up at him. His hands itched to touch her, with perhaps a tenfold increase since the night he’d been in her bedroom. Still, he refrained.

“Tell me.” He was practically begging her now.

“I was just wondering how…” Her eyes deferred back to the backs.

Dammit. He wanted to open her mind, reach in, and pull out the question. But patience—so he’d heard—was a virtue.

“Wondering what?”

“How,” she cleared her throat gently, “does a couple decide, exactly?”

By now he was sure that perspiration was dripping down his forehead. “Decide what?”

She bit her bottom lip, pulling it softly into her mouth, and he nearly gripped her upper arms to shake the question out of her. That, or drink it off of her lips.

“Which—erm—position they’ll use.”

The question dropped like a boulder in a lake. And at the same time shot off like pyrotechnics in a black sky.

This was an excellent question. He wanted to grin, but he schooled his features to be more…professional.

Wanting more information, he pushed just a little, “What do you mean?”

Instinctively, her hands flew out from her sides, incidentally grazing his thigh. He hadn’t realized how close he’d been standing to her.

“I mean, they don’t just flip open…the erm—book, and pick a page.” His silence and small smirk had her tagging on, “Do they?”

He shrugged. “Why not?”

“It seems like that would take the passion out of the act.”

He rubbed his jaw with one of his hands. “Which page would you pick?”

Startled, she took a step back. “What?”

“It seems obvious to me that you’ve thought this through. Which page would you pick?”

“I h-hadn’t—”

“What’s the harm in telling me?”

And just when he thought that she wouldn’t disclose the information—that it would be too good to be true if she did—she blurted out, “Thirty-six.”

His cock throbbed at the number. Thirty-six was a page he knew well.

“Shall we test your theory?”

“What theory?”

“That choosing a page and acting on it robs the moment of passion.”

“Oh.” Her hands fisted into the fabric of her skirts. “I couldn’t possibly.”

“I could.”

“Well, really…”

“If it helps to know, I’ll be the one doing all the work.”

“Yes.” Her eyes fell to his lips and didn’t move. “Quite.”

And they stood in charged air for what felt like an eon to Soren. “Was that a yes?”

After studying his mouth for a few more beats, she nodded.

“I need to hear you say it, my studious little librarian.”

“Yes,” she whispered. “I think we should test the theory.”

“It’s the only way to know for sure,” he agreed.

“Very true.” Her eyes finally left his lips and started to scan the room. “Where?”

“I should think the desk or the settee would be comfortable for you.”

“The desk?” She echoed on a sharp cry.

“Settee it is,” he said, leading her to the agreed upon location.

With a small tug on her skirts, she asked, “Should I…?”

“Do as much or as little as you wish. I’ll do the rest. And if you want me to stop, just say so.”

Already his cock was hard in his breeches as he sank to his knees. His heart thudded annoyingly loudly in his chest as a newfound sense of awe permeated his skin. He had been given permission to touch her. An invitation, in fact.

Her fingers curled around the fabric and started to pull up, exposing delicate ankles. His mouth salivated in reply, hungry for her. Desperate to taste her, yes, but more eager to please her.

He let his hand encircle her ankle, and at her gasp, he reminded her, “You can tell me to stop at any moment.”

“Yes, I know.” Her eyes looked heavy as she swallowed hard, but her determined fingers were still lifting her skirts.

Seeing her bare skin, he trembled. Then, without any more warning, he ducked his head between her legs and dragged his nose up her inner thigh. Slowly. Further. Until he could fully inhale her unique musky scent.

Her legs shook as he said, “God, you smell good, Pru.”

Then he gave a soft kiss to one leg and then the other.

When he brought his tongue to the same spot and started dragging it closer to the juncture of her thighs, he heard her soft whimpers. “Don’t stop. Don’t stop, Soren.”

And it was like she had poured oil onto the fire burning within him.

He nuzzled closer, inhaling first, then licking a long lush stroke between her folds. Her thighs contracted around his head and he was sure he could hear her murmuring a vague apology. He slid his hands up her soft, creamy thighs and squeezed gently.

His tongue found her bud and lapped at her wetness. Not one to moan, he almost jumped out of his skin at the depth and length of the growl-like moan that erupted from him. And he could feel from her posture that she had leaned back and widened her legs, granting him more access.

This woman was more than he could have ever imagined a woman to be. Hungry to explore. To be explored. Yet she was humble and kind. Not aggressive or trying to play coy. Simply open to him. Tension mounted in his body.

Hearing her huffed breaths, chanting his name, urged him on. When he suckled on her budding flower, she cried out.

And fuck…if he didn’t spill in his breeches like a greenhorn.

Yet, hearing her pleasure, feeling her body’s release…he’d never felt more a man.
