Chapter 16
Bram
“So he didn’t trespass,” Ash says, his chest rumbling as he stares at the bag on the island.
I pause for a beat to focus on my hearing. Seems Luna’s breathing upstairs is slow, even, which means she’s finally asleep. Good.
I turn back to Ash. “Yep. According to Jenna.”
“Lucky for us she was still awake to text you back,” Ash says.
“Jenna’s always been reliable,” I say. “At least that’s one question answered before we put this day to bed.”
“But this still means this guy knows where Luna is,” Reed says, crossing his arms. “We need to go.”
“Go where?” I ask, keeping my voice steady. I force my shoulders to drop because if I let my own Alpha slip, we’re going to do something stupid.
“To find him,” Reed snarls, taking a step toward the door. “He sent a threat to our house. To our omega. I’m going to rip his fucking head off.”
“No, you’re not,” I say. Quiet. “We don’t even know where he is.”
Reed whips his head toward me. “So? You want to sit here and wait for him to come back?”
“We can get his address based on the info Luna gave us.” Ash says.
For fuck’s sake, Ash, do not encourage him.
“So let’s do that and drive over there right now,” Reed says.
Idiot.
I let out a breath. They’re letting their instincts drive. I’m dying to crush this guy just as much as they do, but we need to be smart about this.
“Listen to me.” I tell Reed, holding his gaze. “I want to put him in a cage where he can never touch her again, but he hasn’t broken a law. Sending a bag isn’t illegal. If you go find him tonight and beat him, you go to jail. And who protects Luna then?”
Ash’s jaw works before he looks away, staring at the floor. Reed’s shoulders drop an inch, and his scent dials back a fraction.
“Tomorrow,” I say, “she goes to her yoga retreat. The security there is tight. They have gates. Security guards. She’ll be safe.”
Reed rubs the back of his neck, his brows furrowed.
“We will drive her,” I continue. “And while she’s there, I’ll pull every string I have. I’ll run his name. I’ll find out where he’s staying, everything he’s ever done. We build a case. We do it right.”
Ash looks at me. “And if he comes back here?”
“Then, we’ll be within our rights to act,” I say, a slow, grim smile touching my mouth.
Ash exhales then nods. “Alright.”
“I’m staying right outside her door tonight,” Reed says.
“My thoughts as well.” I pick the leather bag up off the counter. I don’t want Luna to have to look at it in the morning. “I’ll lock it in the attic.”
I look toward the stairs, my instincts screaming at me to stay on high alert.
I don’t think I’ll be sleeping much tonight.
