Epilogue Two

She was gone.

Charlie couldn’t even form her name in her thoughts. It hurt too much.

Piles of clothes and uneaten boxes of food littered the floors of his cabin. Photos of their happiness together used to be on the walls to remind him of his happiness, but now all of the smiles stared down at him as a reminder of his loss.

Finn had tried to get him to come out of the house. He’d been unconscious for three days after Lucie’s life-saving surgery.

But Finn couldn’t take the extra time to go out and save Sabrina? He abandoned her.

Part of Charlie knew that wasn’t fair. Charlie was bleeding out, shot by the Voyant herself, and there was a line of Legion agents that came out of nowhere surrounding him before the Voyant raised her dagger and stabbed?—

Now . . . now she was dead—his best friend, captain, and great love.

The words echoed endlessly in his head, like a terrible mantra.

Emotion closed around his throat. He was drifting, untethered, in the vast, dark space of his own mind, unable to grasp onto anything solid.

If she was going to die, he wanted to die with her, but Finn had taken that away from him, too. Murdered right in front of him, and he couldn’t do anything about it but bleed out.

What Charlie couldn’t figure out was how the Voyant had known they were coming. Who told Legion they would be there? They had a spy on the inside.

Charlie couldn’t leave his house; he knew someone out there had plotted this.

Charlie would kill whoever took her away from him, rip them to pieces, and have them begging for mercy.

Charlie was going to destroy Legion and everyone in it for taking Sabrina away from him.

And when he did, he would make them pay for every second she was gone.

So Charlie began to count.

Three days, eight hours, one minute and forty-five . . . forty-six . . . forty-seven seconds.
