CHAPTER 15

REMMIE

After making the largest cup of coffee I can, I cozy up on the couch, grabbing my phone to make a call. My friend, Sharina, picks up her phone on the second ring. “Hey boo. What’s up?” She answers.

“Well, I almost died yesterday.” I try to hold back my laugh.

“Wait. What? You better start explaining, girl.”

And I do.

I explain everything about Shade and the spell.

The coven of witches, and the fact that my gran never told me what I was.

I also tell her in extremely graphic detail, about sleeping with Shade the previous day.

Sharina would not settle for anything less and she’s my best friend so she’s the exception.

I realize how badly I needed to unload all of this information to someone else, having spent most of my time with Shade lately.

He is the main subject, after all. He would definitely love to hear this conversation.

Sharina is quiet while I speak, chiming in with a hum or emotional gasp every now and then.

When I finish, she’s quiet on the other end of the line. So much so, that I thought she hung up on me. But then she giggles and I relax at the sound.

“Damn, my life is so boring compared to this.” She laughs.

“First of all, I’m sorry about your gran and not knowing you were a witch.

Second, I’m freaking mad at my Nana for not tell me about you or your gran.

I’ve known my Nana was a witch the moment I was born.

She never hid it from me. Always was upset that I never had any magical aura or whatever.

But this Shade seems like a good dude. From what you’ve told me so far, he seems to really care about you. ” Sharina says.

“Yeah, but what if it’s just the deal and not really his true feelings? I don’t know if I’d be able to take it if he just stopped caring for me, like he clicked an off switch.” The thought of ending things just as they began is freaking terrifying.

“Naw, I don’t think so. The dicking down you got sounds extremely genuine, my friend. And he covered up your hair for you! I say let it ride. See where it goes. And once you lift whatever spell is on the bakery, ask him if he wants to stay.”

I can hear the thumbs up Sharina is giving me over the phone. But is she right? Am I so hung up on the deal and the possibility that Shade is just here because he has no other choice, and not because he wants to be here with me, that I’m afraid to move forward? Be Brave, Remmie.

“That’s why I love you. You’re so much smarter than me.” I say, laughing.

“Nope. Not true. You love me because I’ll always have your back, even when it involves magic spells and sexy demon lover boys.”

I smile. She’s not wrong. Not at all.
