CHAPTER 23
SHADE
The moment Remmie’s lips touch mine, it feels like a warm blanket is draped over my shoulders.
Air rushes into my lungs and I can see straight for the first time in hours.
This must be her protection magic. It’s how she was able to get me in and out of the bakery all those times.
She’s clearing the spell. Take it off she’d said.
The collar. Now that I had my mind back, I should take the collar off.
But first.
I pull Remmie flush to my body, groaning.
Anytime away from her is too much time. My claws graze down her arms, cutting both of her bindings.
I can’t have her tied up like this. With her hands free, Remmie quickly grabs onto my collar, undoing the buckle at the back of my neck.
It hits the floor and I sigh. Somewhere, Dalia screams, but I don’t let go of my Remmie.
My mate.
We are so tightly bound together, especially in this moment, that separating from her seems imposable.
But after what seems like a lifetime, we finally part. The look in her eyes is murderous. And shit, I didn’t think I’d find it so hot. She’s angry for me. My little witch, who barley has magic of her own, would go toe to toe with one of the worst witches I’ve ever met, all to protect me.
No truer mate, has there ever been.
I cup her cheek in my hand and her eyes soften.
The world slows down. The sense of danger ebbs the longer I stare at my love.
Hope blooms in my chest. We just might make it out of here after all.
And when we do, I have to be the best mate of all the mates in the world.
I will listen to her every need. Calm her fears.
Embrace her worries. And bask in her sunlight.
I know it deep in my soul, that after this hardship, we will never be apart again.
“Remmie, I…”
Suddenly, I’m sailing backwards through the air. Remmie’s form getting further from my sight, as my body is ripped away from hers.
