EVERLY
The back of my hand connects with Jennifer’s face and her head jerks to the left. Silence falls over the room . I just slapped someone.
I’ve never put my hands on someone before, but it felt good. She deserved it. I could see how uncomfortable she was making Rowan, but all these men are too good to ever lay their hand on a woman. So, it was my job as his old lady.
“She just hit me!” Jennifer splutters, her hand cupping her bright red cheek.
“You’re lucky that’s all she did,” Rowan grumbles as he moves to stand beside me, reaching out to flip my hand over. He checks me for injury and then pulls me to his side.
All the guys are watching, and a few of them look uncomfortable. They know Jennifer. Some of them probably know her better than me. She was a part of Rowan’s life. Will they think poorly of me for slapping her?
“Is everything all right over there, Rowan?” Cole asks as he rises from his seat.
“Yeah,” Rowan mutters. “Jennifer just doesn’t know how to keep her hands to herself.”
“Why don’t you guys come over here?” Grayson offers.
The club girls leave the room, and the rest of the members move to stand around the table.
“What’s going on, pres?” Nash asks.
“Jennifer might have some answers for us about the Devil’s Knights’ president.”
Jennifer’s face loses all its color, and her breathing picks up. “I’m not telling you shit,” she hisses.
“We could always force it out of you,” I warn her as I take a step forward, just to be forced back by Rowan.
“Easy, killer.”
“If she doesn’t want to tell us anything, we can’t exactly force it out of her,” Cole says as he pulls out a chair to take a seat.
“We could,” I grumble.
Axel smirks at me like he didn’t know I had it in me. Okay, I didn’t know I had it in me either, but this bitch brings out the worst in me.
“I could help with all this,” Lenny offers from his seat at the bar.
“PI’s?” Grayson asks.
Lenny nods, but before he can speak, there’s yelling from outside. Jennifer tries to make a run for it, but I grab her blonde ponytail and stop her. Two of the prospects stride into the room with grim expressions.
“Pres, the president from the Devil’s Knights is here and wants to talk with you,” Levi speaks up.
“How many are with him?” Grayson asks.
“Two men are at the gate, another three are waiting two blocks back,” Noah replies.
“Let the three men at the gate in but close it after them,” Grayson says before turning a pointed glance at Axel and Cane.
They understand the meaning and follow the prospects out, but I don’t miss them pulling guns from their waistbands. I swallow my nerves and release Jennifer’s hair, pushing her away.
We hear footsteps approaching and watch as three Devil’s Knights walk into the room.
One of them is about six feet tall and muscular.
He has grey hair and patchy facial hair.
His eyes lock on Jennifer and I can see her shrink under his watchful gaze.
I almost feel sorry for her. I don’t want anyone to be a victim of domestic violence, and this man looks like an asshole.
The two men with him are shorter than him and not as muscular. They wear the leather cuts of their club with patches that let us know they’re the vice-president and sergeant at arms.
Each of the Sovereign Sons members around me stands taller with watchful eyes. None of them want to show an ounce of weakness in their presence.
“What are you doing here, Jen?” Their president calls out as he walks closer.
Jennifer practically tries to hide behind us.
“Why are you at my fucking clubhouse?” Grayson barks.
Drew smirks. “I’m here for my woman.” He looks away from Jennifer and his eyes land on me. He winks at me. Fucking winks.
Rowan steps in front of me, sheltering me from his gaze. “You’re not welcome here.”
“You have something that belongs to me,” Drew sneers. “We can settle this. Just give her over to me.”
“You can take Jennifer and leave. I’ll even throw in your member, who apparently, you didn’t even realize was missing,” Grayson mutters. “We have no use for either of them.”
“I’m not talking about Jennifer or Wyatt.”
I swear you could hear a pin drop at his admission. Rowan goes deathly still beside me. “You have no claim to anyone here,” he grits out. “Leave.”
“We’ll meet you on neutral ground to settle this,” Axel says.
“Fine,” Drew relents. “We’ll be in touch. Come on Jen.”
I hear Jennifer walk towards them and then the sound of their boots retreating from the room. He just told everyone that he was here for me. What the hell is going on?
