CHAPTER TWENTY

The Trial
Timothy Watson never made it to trial.
Officially, he died in a prisoner transfer accident. The van he was being transported in went off the road. He was the only casualty.
Unofficially? Everyone knew what had really happened.
Luca Carmine had taken care of it. And while I couldn't prove it, I also couldn't bring myself to investigate too hard.
Sometimes, justice came in forms the law couldn't provide.
I closed the case file on my desk and leaned back in my chair. Bryony Mikelson—or Ginevra Carmine, as she was going by now—was safe. The man who'd tried to kill her was dead. And her husband was facing his own consequences.
Henrik Mikelson's affair had become public knowledge during the investigation. His reputation in Crescent Falls was destroyed. His business was suffering. And his wife was divorcing him.
He'd lost everything.
As for Bryony—Ginevra—she was recovering. Both physically and emotionally. And from what I'd heard, she and Deangelo Rossi were together now.
Good for her. She deserved happiness after everything she'd been through.
I closed the file and filed it away.
Case closed.
