CHAPTER FIVE

JESSIE

––––––––

I guess I asked for it. To make up for my no-panty-naughtiness I decide to make amends with Liam.

That’s a lie.

I’m not done showing him how ridiculous he is.

Taking the tie from my dressing gown, I use it to tie around the duvet and turn it into the thickest dress known to man. Then I then head to the kitchen for breakfast.

I pour a cup of coffee, then sit myself in a chair at the table, just in time for Liam’s appearance.

“Good morning,” I smile, my face only just visible above the bunched-up feather and down duvet.

Liam stops dead in his tracks and stares. I can see he doesn’t know what to say and is trying to decide how to proceed.

“Beautiful morning.” I sip the coffee and almost pour it down the front of me.

This plan was terrible.

Still, if this man thinks he can continue pretending he doesn’t desire me, then I’m going to make his life hell.

Two weeks.

I’ll break him.

I know I will.

“Jessie.” Liam rubs his temple as if I’m the bane of his existence.

I might be.

“Yes, Liam?” I smile like butter wouldn’t melt.

He sighs and heads to the cupboard, pulling out his breakfast ingredients. I’m rather disappointed that’s all he has to say.

Does he not know how much effort this was to put together? That, and I’m not sure I’ll ever get out of this chair. Asking him for help would completely ruin my vibe.

No.

Oh no.

My bladder awakens, and I feel the first pangs of panic. It’s fine...it’s fine. I push the chair back, and...it’s stuck.

Shit.

Glancing down, I note the cover is hooked around the leg of the table, and I tug it. A quick glance and I see Liam has turned, now leaning against the kitchen counter and is spooning his stupid oats into his mouth.

“Little help,” I say.

“You’ve got this.” The start of a smile appears as he takes another mouthful.

Jerk.

I tug it against and push the chair, but the duvet gets even more tightly stuck in the metal leg.

“Liam, I need to go to the bathroom. This isn’t a joke.”

“I’m not stopping you.” He chuckles.

My bladder gets louder and louder as my heart starts pounding faster.

“Help. I’m stuck.” I hear the material rip—Jayden is going to kill me.

“All you have to do is dress like a normal person.” He takes another mouthful and chews calmly.

“Okay, can we talk about this after? I need you to—”

He starts walking out of the room.

“Liam!”

“Jumping in the shower. Have fun.” I hear him chuckle more.

Shit, shit, shit.

Time has run out.

The problem is, underneath this damn duvet-dress is...nothing. Ripping at the tie around my waist, I undo it and naked run down the hall to the bathroom. Thank god he—

SMASH.

Liam catches me in his arms as I die of embarrassment.

“Jesus Christ, Jessie!” he growls, as he takes in every inch of me, and not with repulsion.

If I had time to take it all in, I might enjoy the way his eyes flare with arousal, his lips gloss as his tongue runs over them.

But I don’t.

I am about to burst.

“Let me go; I’m going to pee myself!”

I race off with my face burning and burst into the bathroom, slamming the door.

Oh, my god.

I groan at the relief as my bladder empties, but the shame remains.

My skirts might have been short, and I’ve been in a bikini around Liam many times, but the bruises from my recent experience are visible near my panty line, and I hope like hell he didn’t notice.

––––––––

TEN MINUTES LATER, I exit my room in shorts and a T-shirt and continue with my breakfast as if nothing happened.

Hoping he would do the same.

When Liam walks to the front door on his way out, I glance up from my phone. He wears a Black Hawke Security polo shirt and matching cargo pants, looking sexy as hell with his satchel under his arm, his forearm muscles taut.

I’m too ashamed to enjoy the view.

“That never happened,” I mutter.

“Nope.” Liam doesn’t meet my eyes. “I’ll be home late. Keep out of trouble.”

Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea.

Regardless, whether Liam knows it or not, he’s protecting me, and I should probably stop being a brat and lie low.
