Chapter 14

Chapter

Fourteen

Lachlan prowled the house, the silence broken only by the creak of floorboards and the wind outside.

Micah had been cranky for two days, and Kieran was exhausted from being up with him, so Alban had Micah tonight, since he’d calmed down, and Lachlan was letting Kieran sleep.

He was… restless.

But he could hear Kieran muttering in his sleep, so he went back to the bedroom, standing at the edge of the bed and examining his lover.

Kieran turned toward him, frowning deep as he pushed closer.

“Shhh.” He coasted a hand over Kieran’s back, and his lover was hot as fire. Oh, no. Was he ill? Even magical creatures could have a fever.

Kieran groaned, eyes cracking open as he lifted his face for a kiss. “Mmm…mate.”

“Hello, love.” He bent to give it. “You’re burning up.”

“I feel like I’m on fire inside. I want you, hmm? More than breathing.”

“Do you? You can have me any time you want me.” He slid off his robe and crawled back into bed.

“Oh.” Kieran moved to straddle him as soon as he settled, rocking their bodies together.

His eyes widened, and he grabbed Kieran’s slim hips. “Oh, that’s lovely.”

“Uh-huh. I ache for you. All of me. I ache for every inch of you.”

“Then take what you need, love.” He stretched out long under Kieran, offering everything.

Kieran gave him an unexpectedly wicked smile. “Spread your wings for me. When you knot me, I want you to hold me with them.”

That idea warmed him all the way to his toes, putting a fire in his belly. Fuck, yes. Lachlan rolled them so he was on top, then spread his wings, letting them snap out to their full length, the shadow of them filling the space on the wall behind the bed.

Kieran moaned for him, eyes rolling up for a second before fastening back to his face. “Do you know how incredibly hot that is?”

The words moved like lightning, going straight to his balls, because his wings were the things that made him different, made him not fit in, and his mate loved them. That made him… so proud.

He grabbed Kieran’s ass, lifting him up so they could rub together. “If you think so, that’s all that matters, my love.”

“I know so.” Kieran was wet for him, and the scent of needy omega was enough to make his eyes cross.

He kissed that sweet mouth, feeling the need that raced through his mate at the press of their lips together. He could barely breathe from the desire flaring through him.

Kieran writhed underneath him like they were trying desperately to spark off a fire.

And they were, to be honest. His knot was swelling like crazy, and he needed to be inside Kieran while he still could. “I’m… I need you. Are you ready for me?”

He didn’t want to wait, but he would. Lachlan would never hurt Kieran for anything in the world.

Kieran bared his teeth. “I was dreaming about you. I was ready when you came back to bed.”

His dragon responded immediately, going toothy and rumbling, his body on fire. He reached down, rubbed the tip of his cock against Kieran’s wet hole before arching his hips and pushing in. “Mine.”

“Yours.” Kieran didn’t seem like he wanted to argue at all, one hundred percent.

So Lachlan pressed inside, going deep and hard in a single thrust.

Kieran cried out for him, hands coming up to clutch his shoulders, fingers digging in a little bit.

Then those legs came up to wrap around the backs of his thighs, holding him in place.

“Oh Lachlan, yes, that’s exactly what I need right there.

” Kieran looked up at him, eyes glowing with that inner light that he had that he projected.

The fact that he wasn’t able to control it right now made Lachlan feel ten feet tall and hard as a boulder.

“I know what you need, baby. I really do.” He understood now.

Kieran was in heat and he needed a good hard knotting, maybe more than one.

Lachlan knew from talking to his brother and to Logan that sometimes mating with one’s heated mate could lead to extreme exhaustion and even dehydration for the alpha.

It was a challenge he would happily take on.

He waited for Kieran, wings around him, to be panting, lips damp where he’d licked them. Then he started moving. He drew his hips back then pushed them forward, starting with slow thrusts that got deeper and harder as he went along.

He wrapped his wings down around Kieran, cocooning them together in a warm, damp space of heated breath and sweat and scent.

“Mate,” Kieran breathed the word against his skin, making the scales rattle.

“Yes, you’re my mate, and you’re my perfect omega.”

“Yes, yours.” Kieran planted his feet against the backs of Lachlan’s thighs and pushed up, forcing him to move faster.

He gave his mate exactly what he was asking for. Sawing back and forth with his hips, thrusting until they made these incredible slapping noises as they came together, both of them panting, his wings bouncing as they rocked and moaned and kissed each other with enough teeth to make it sting.

“I love you. I love you so much,” Kieran told him. “I’m so glad I found you.”

“I’m so glad you’re here.” They couldn’t stop talking. It was sex words mostly, but every so often it came out with things like, “I love you. I’m so happy to be yours. I need you more than anything else on earth.”

Soon though, his knot had swollen until there was no way they were going to move more than a few inches at a time. He changed the angle and began pushing up, rocking into Kieran so that they had friction, so that he could get as deep as he could before he filled his mate up with wet heat.

He wanted Kieran to come. He wanted to give his mate the most incredible pleasure so he moved faster but he also reached down between them, pressing his fingers to the base of Kieran’s cock, rubbing back and forth.

Kieran let out a cry, his whole body arching, his toes curling against Lachlan’s skin. “That’s it. More please, please!”

Lachlan gave more because he couldn’t not. He couldn’t stop now. All he needed was to just keep moving until he fulfilled the promise of this coupling. He knew what this was for. This was because he and Kieran were trying to make a baby. And if they didn’t, they could certainly try again next time.

He let his mouth curve in a smile and Kieran pushed up to nip his lower lip.

“Are you laughing at me?” Kieran asked, breathless, his eyes shining.

“I’m laughing for joy. I’m laughing because I can’t wait to do this again and again and again.”

“Silly Dragon. Let’s do it now, and then we’ll do it again in a few minutes.”

“I do like the way you think.”

They both laughed again, and then he circled his hips until whatever he’d done made Kieran gasp, his eyes flying open and laughter just disappearing like smoke.

So he did it repeatedly, almost as if he were dancing.

He could do this with his beautiful mate all night long.

Kieran felt exhausted and wonderful.

He was so worn out from loving that if he lifted his hand, it flopped right back down on the bed, his muscles utterly spent from what he and Lachlan had gotten up to for…

The last eight hours.

Lachlan’s gorgeous platinum scales looked a bit dull, and his wings drooped. He had really exerted himself on Kieran’s behalf, and it had worked.

The fire of his heat was burned out, he thought. And a day or so early, at that.

He spread a hand over his belly. He had a feeling that what they had done had planted the seed. That it had worked.

Another baby, this one with his dear Lachlan, adored and protected, rejoiced over. No fear. No fury.

Home and love and hope.

He couldn’t wait for Micah to be a brother. He couldn’t wait to see Lachlan’s face when their two children were together and they had things like holidays, family events like birthdays, and just everyday wonderfulness.

A soft knock sounded at the door and Lachlan sat up, his wings folding on his back as he slipped out of the bed and put on a pair of squishy pants. He went to answer the door, turning before he did to make sure Kieran was covered up, which was very sweet of him.

Alban stood at the door, Micah tucked into one arm. “Hi. I didn’t want to bother you, but I brought you a little cart of food so you guys could eat, and maybe Micah could sit with you for a little while? He’s not as fussy as he was, but I think he’s missing you.”

Kieran’s cheeks went hot. “Of course! Oh, goddess. Alban, I’m so sorry.”

Lachlan scooped up the baby, nuzzling him and making him squeal with the soft stubble rubbing his face.

“Nonsense. You’re fine. I just know you’d want to see him.”

“Thank you so much, Alban. For the food as well.” Lachlan’s belly growled like it was a wild animal.

“Of course. Mating dragons need their sustenance.”

Lachlan brought him Micah, then wheeled over the cart with eggs and bacon, pancakes, toast, fruit salad and hashbrowns.

“Oh.” He sat up, holding Micah close and nuzzling his hair. “That smells amazing.”

“Alban outdid himself. This is wondrous.”

“It is so amazing. Hand me a piece of bacon, stat.” He was ravenous, and he didn’t think he could control himself. He might just have to nibble on Micah a little bit.

As if the baby had heard his thoughts, Micah started giggling.

He offered Micah a bite of eggs, the baby snapping them up. “Da!”

“Yes, love. Did you have fun cooking with Alban?”

“Bahn!”

“He’s very good at cooking, isn’t he?” He gratefully nibbled at the bites of bacon and pancake Lachlan fed him in turn. It felt like every bite dropped right to the bottom of his belly.

He was starving to death. I think this is the best bacon on earth.

It’s so good. There’s a lot, so eat up.

Are you eating? He had yet to see Lachlan take a bite.

Yes, love. I’ve had two pancakes already.

Oh. He blushed dark, but grinned with pleasure. They’re good too.

They really are. Lachlan settled closer on the bed. “Here, Micah. Say ah.”

“Ah! Ah ah ah!” Micah was so proud of himself, and of his bite of pancake.

He did have a sweet tooth.

Lachlan fed them both nibbles, then polished off a huge plate of his own. Then they started all over again with a new plate.

By the time they were done, everyone was full and lazy, the television playing cartoons, the three of them lounging together in bed.

They needed to change the sheets, but Lachlan had pulled out a clean blanket, so no one cared. It was time for family togetherness. Lachlan wheeled the cart outside the door as if they were in a fancy hotel, making him laugh.

He studied Lachlan carefully, noting his color was much better, his smile back to full wattage.

Food was a marvelous thing.

“You are a wondrous dragon.” He leaned into Lachlan, humming softly. “I’m so happy, and I never thought I could be.”

“I never thought I would be, either. So now we just have each other to watch over.”

“And the wing,” he pointed out. They were a guardian family.

“Obviously.” Lachlan chuckled softly. “I am the platinum guardian. I can’t imagine not protecting my home, my family.”

“Exactly. And now you have a partner to help deal with logistics.” He winked. He would be a helpmate for his dragon. And Alban was a wonder.

“I love you.” Lachlan took a soft kiss, and Micah squealed again.

“Luff!”

“Oh that’s my good boy! Listen to you.” He couldn’t be more thrilled with the way Micah had just vocalized. It was such a fabulous thing that his advancement was finally catching up.

He’s amazing. Lachlan bent to nuzzle Micah on top of his head and he was happily ensconced between the two of them on the bed, just really living it up. But he could still tangle his feet with Lachlan’s because they were both so much bigger than Micah, of course.

They watched cartoons some more and dozed. Finally, Alban came to collect Micah, so he and Lachlan could take a shower and then actually come downstairs for lupper. He felt a little heavy and a lot stretched in various places, but really Kieran felt good.

Lachlan had an arm around him and kept nuzzling his hair and touching him every time they parted for any reason. It was like they had a magnet that kept pulling them back together.

Alban beamed at them. “I love this for me as much as I do for you.”

Kieran glanced curiously at Alban. “Oh? Why is that?”

“Because my job is already wonderful having Micah to take care of, but now there will be more than one.”

Lachlan chuckled. “If we’re lucky.”

“I think, love, that we’re lucky.” He knew it, balls to bones.

“Do you? Already?” Lachlan’s cheeks went bright pink, and his smile was so bright it blinded Kieran for a moment. “Oh, love! Micah. You’re going to be a brother. Isn’t that exciting?”

His heart almost cracked that Lachlan thought of Micah first. He couldn’t have asked for a better mate, a better partner, someone to love his son as much as he did.

“Bru!” Micah piped up, surprising him by patting his belly.

“That’s right, son. A brother.” Lachlan rubbed his nose on Micah’s belly before handing him over. “We’ll be down in two shakes. We just need a shower.”

“Baf!”

Kieran cracked up. “You know it. Papa and I need a bath.”

“Tink.”

“Oh, thank you, little bit. It’s good to know we’re stinky.” Lachlan was laughing along.

This was his life.

How had this happened to him?

Micah waved to them on the way out, little fingers opening and closing.

“Come on, love. Let’s get that shower.” Lachlan lifted him, and Kieran laughed, wrapping his arms around his mate’s neck.

“Yes. We wouldn’t want to offend Micah.”

He didn’t care if he didn’t deserve it yet, or know where it came from.

Kieran was going to grab it and hold on with both hands.
