Chapter Ten #2

Andre’s eyebrows shot upward, his jaw slackening for a fraction of a second before a delighted grin took over his features. The Capo stepped forward, extending a large, calloused hand.

"A Gambrelli," Andre boomed, shaking her hand with genuine, profound respect.

"I have bled with your brothers' lieutenants in the northern trade routes. It is an honor to have you in this house, Arielle. And it is a miracle you have managed to tolerate this boy’s arrogance for more than five minutes. "

"It requires a monumental amount of patience, Signor Zanetti," Arielle agreed smoothly, her eyes flashing with a playful, effortless wit. "But I manage him accordingly."

Andre threw his head back and roared with laughter. He turned to Salvatore, accepting a glass of amber liquid from the Don.

"Did we expect this, Salvatore?" Andre asked, gesturing wildly around the room with his glass, pointing at Roselia, Raisa, and finally Arielle.

"Did we ever, in our wildest dreams, anticipate a reality like this?

Look at the caliber of women standing in this room.

Dio Mio, you are going to get three daughters-in-law who will probably overthrow your sons before the end of the year. "

Salvatore chuckled, leaning against the edge of a velvet settee. "We are outflanked, my friend."

"Outflanked is an understatement," Andre declared, his booming voice echoing with delight.

"At this point, I think we should just have the men retire.

They can sit on the terrace, lounge around in the sun, and read the morning papers while the women take over the empire.

It would be significantly more efficient. "

Lorenzo rolled his eyes, though a deep, rumbling laugh escaped his chest. "You are incredibly close to treason, Andre."

"He is not wrong, Lorenzo," Roselia smirked, leaning gracefully against her husband’s side. "The three of us could likely streamline the shipping routes by the end of the week."

The parlor erupted into a cacophony of warm, uproarious laughter.

Arielle leaned into Enzo’s side, a brilliant, unrestrained smile illuminating her face.

For a woman who had spent eight years terrified of the shadows, standing in the bright, chaotic, unapologetic light of the Falco family felt like finally, truly breathing.

That evening, Enzo stole her away.

He did not want the constant, overwhelming presence of his family to crowd the fragile, beautiful peace they had found.

He requisitioned a sleek, unmarked black sports car from the estate’s garage and drove them away from the cliffs, winding down the coastal roads until they reached a quiet, secluded stretch of the Neapolitan shoreline.

He had reserved the entire outdoor patio of a small, rustic, candlelit restaurant perched directly over the crashing waves.

There were no guards visible, no syndicate lieutenants lingering in the periphery.

It was just the two of them, enveloped in the scent of roasted garlic, fresh seafood, and the salty breeze of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

The date was a masterpiece of quiet, romantic perfection.

They ate slowly, drinking a rich, full-bodied Aglianico.

Enzo was captivating, pouring his undivided attention into her.

They didn't discuss the Gambrelli empire or the brutal logistics of the Falco ports. They talked about the architecture of the coastal towns, the books she had read during her time away, and the dreams he harbored for a life that wasn’t consumed by blood.

When the plates were cleared and the candles had burned low, throwing flickering, golden shadows across Arielle’s face, Enzo reached across the small, linen-draped table. He laced his fingers through hers, his eyes burning with a slow, consuming heat.

"Take me home," Arielle whispered, the command soft, breathless, and laden with an undeniable promise.

Enzo’s breath hitched. He didn't say a word. He simply stood up, tossed a stack of Euro notes onto the table, and pulled her gently but urgently toward the car.

The drive back to the estate was a blur of charged tension. The air inside the cabin was electric with anticipation. The moment the mahogany doors of Enzo’s private suite clicked shut, sealing them inside the expansive, fire-lit sanctuary, the silence violently fractured.

Enzo turned her around, backing her gently against the smooth wood of the door.

He framed her face with his large, calloused hands, leaning down to capture her mouth.

The kiss was a searing, desperate collision of heat and restraint, a physical manifestation of the blinding love that had consumed him.

Arielle sighed into his mouth, her hands sliding up the crisp fabric of his shirt to grip his broad shoulders. She opened to him willingly, her tongue meeting his, tasting the rich red wine and the intoxicating, addictive essence of the man who had pulled her back to life.

"You are flawless," Enzo groaned, his voice a raw, broken vibration against her jaw. His lips trailed hot, open-mouthed kisses down the elegant column of her throat, pausing to press a bruised, claiming kiss over her racing pulse point.

His hands moved with practiced, devastating efficiency. He found the hidden zipper at the back of her emerald-green dress, pulling it down with a slow, agonizing slide. The silk pooled silently onto the Persian rug at their feet, leaving her clad only in delicate lace.

Arielle gasped, the cool air of the suite brushing her flushed skin for only a fraction of a second before Enzo lifted her effortlessly into his arms. He carried her across the room, following her down into the plush, tangled sheets of the four-poster bed.

He hovered over her, his eyes dilated with a ravenous, consuming hunger as he stripped away his own shirt, tossing it blindly onto the floor. The firelight danced across the corded muscles of his chest and the jagged, silver scar that marred his ribs—a testament to his survival.

Arielle reached up, her fingertips tracing the edge of the scar with profound, agonizing reverence. Enzo shuddered at her touch, his eyes fluttering shut as he leaned his weight into her palm.

"I am yours, Ari," he swore, the vow absolute, in the quiet room.

He removed the final barriers of lace between them, his hands mapping the athletic, flawless curves of her body.

He worshipped her. He moved with a slow, agonizingly tender rhythm, his mouth finding the sensitive slope of her collarbone, his teeth grazing her skin and leaving a trail of burning heat that made her arch her spine into the mattress.

"Enzo," she breathed, her hands tangling desperately in the hair at the nape of his neck. "Please."

When he finally drove into her, the world outside the locked doors ceased to exist. It was a torrential, breathless wave of sensation, a physical anchoring of two souls that had found each other.

Enzo moved with a deep, relentless, consuming power, his chest heaving as he held his weight on his forearms, refusing to look away from her eyes.

He watched the flush of pleasure paint her cheeks. He swallowed the breathless, broken cries that spilled from her lips, his control fracturing under the sheer, staggering weight of his love for her.

Arielle matched his intensity flawlessly.

She wrapped her long legs tightly around his hips, anchoring him to her, her fingernails biting fiercely into the thick musculature of his back.

She gave herself over to the overwhelming, sensory overload of his devotion, meeting every thrust with a desperate, beautiful fire of her own.

The heat in the room reached a blinding, impossible crescendo. They shattered together in the quiet darkness of the suite, a violent, breathtaking collision that tore a ragged, guttural groan from Enzo’s throat.

He collapsed gently against her, immediately pulling her slight frame flush against his chest, wrapping his arms around her to bury her in his warmth. He pressed his face into the fragrant waves of her hair, his heart hammering a frantic, echoing rhythm against hers.

Arielle lay with her head resting on his chest, her fingers lazily tracing circles over his collarbone.

The dying embers of the hearth cast a warm, peaceful glow over their tangled bodies.

She was dismantled, stripped of her ghosts and her armor, resting in the unyielding sanctuary of the man who had promised to stand between her and the world.

It was perfect. A flawless, beautiful peace.
