Chapter Fifteen #2
"You gave me a life, old friend," Andre swore, his eyes shining with unshed tears. "You treated my Roselia like your own blood. You cannot leave me to manage these wild, arrogant kids all by myself. They need you. I need you. Wake up, you stubborn bastard."
The next day, the pale winter sunlight filtered through the mechanized blinds of the medical wing.
Marco Falco sat beside the bed. The cocky, lethal lieutenant was dismantled. He held his father’s hand, staring at the steady, terrifyingly fragile line of the EKG monitor.
"We were so lucky, Papa," Marco whispered, his voice a low, steady cadence of reverence. "To grow up in this house. To have a father who actually looked at us, who actually cared if we lived or died. Most men in our world do not get that."
Marco smiled softly, though his eyes were brimming with sorrow. He thought of his beautiful, fierce wife upstairs.
"You accepted Raisa without a second thought," Marco continued, his thumb gently stroking the back of Salvatore’s hand.
"You welcomed the Bratva into our home because you knew I loved her.
You are the foundation of everything good in this family.
You are the reason we survived. You have to come back to us. "
Hours later, the sun had fully set, plunging the room back into the artificial glow of the machines.
Enzo stepped into the ICU. He had been forced away from the computer screens by Arielle, who had practically dragged him to the medical wing to see his father. The youngest Falco brother looked like a ghost.
He didn't sit in the chair. Enzo dropped straight to his knees on the cold linoleum floor beside the bed, burying his face in the mattress near his father’s arm.
The facade of the brilliant, arrogant hacker evaporated completely. Enzo was the baby of the family. He was the youngest, the one who had bypassed the strictest discipline, the one who had always been shielded by his older brothers and quietly, fiercely spoiled by the patriarch.
"You let me get away with murder, Papa," Enzo choked out, a raw, devastated sob tearing from his throat. His shoulders shook violently as he clutched the edge of the blanket. "You spoiled me rotten. Every time Mama yelled at me, you laughed and gave me a pass. You knew you spoiled me."
Enzo lifted his head, his face wet with tears, looking at the motionless, bearded face of his father.
"I need you to do that for my kids," Enzo pleaded, his voice breaking with sheer, unadulterated heartbreak.
"Ari and I... we are going to build a life.
And you have to be here to spoil them. Where are you going to go now?
You are not supposed to go anywhere. You are supposed to be here.
That is the only outcome I will accept. You cannot leave us. "

The following evening, the medical wing was silent and still.
Valentina Falco walked slowly into the room, her silver-handled cane tapping a sharp, rhythmic cadence against the floor. She stood at the edge of the bed, her posture immaculate, her aristocratic chin lifted high.
But as she looked down at her son, the impenetrable armor of the ancient matriarch cracked.
"It is profoundly unfair, Salvatore," Valentina whispered, her sharp voice trembling with a deep, agonizing grief.
She reached out, her frail, blue-veined hand resting gently over his heart.
"Your father left me alone in the dark to manage an empire.
He broke my heart. And now you are doing this to me?
What are you thinking, my boy? A son is not supposed to leave his mother behind.
You must fight this. You must open your eyes. "
It was almost three days later. The investigation in the security hub was still grinding forward, the brothers tearing apart the digital labyrinth line by line, but in the ICU, absolutely nothing had changed. The monitors beeped their steady, fragile rhythm.
Ana Falco sat in the chair beside the bed.
She had not wept in two days. The initial, violent shock of the trauma had settled into a deep, enduring, quiet strength. She held her husband’s hand in both of hers, resting them against her cheek, staring at his face with a love that transcended decades of chaos and blood.
"We had a beautiful life, Salvatore," Ana murmured, her voice a soft, melodic hum in the sterile room. She closed her eyes, letting the memories wash over her. "We built an empire, yes. But look at the boys we raised. Look at the men they have become."
She smiled, pressing a soft kiss to his knuckles.
"And look at the women they found," Ana continued, her eyes shining with immense, radiant pride.
"Roselia, Raisa, Arielle. We worried for so long that they would end up alone, hardened by the violence.
But they found queens. They found women who will love them and protect them just as fiercely as I have protected you. "
Ana leaned forward, resting her forehead against the edge of the bed, her voice dropping into a fiercely determined vow.
"They are going to build families, amore mio," Ana whispered into the quiet room.
"They are going to fill this huge, empty estate with children and laughter.
And you need to be there to see it. I cannot watch them grow without you holding my hand.
Come back to me, Salvatore. Please. Come back to me. "
