Chapter Sixteen #2

Enzo stared at the monitors, completely and utterly dismantled.

His brilliant, analytical mind was at war with his soul.

He did not know what to believe. The data was glaring, damning, and meticulously corroborated by real-world anomalies.

But his heart remembered the woman weeping in his arms, the woman who had laid her deepest traumas in his bedroom.

"I cannot confront her with this," Enzo whispered, genuine terror lacing his voice. He looked at Marco, his eyes wide and fractured. "If I walk into her room and accuse her of this... if I am wrong, it will destroy us. She will never forgive me. It will make a catastrophic mess of everything."

Marco stepped forward, his expression hardening into the resolute, unyielding mask of a syndicate lieutenant.

"You are not going to confront her, Enzo," Marco ordered, his voice an anchor in the storm. "We do not shatter this family on circumstantial data. We close the ranks. We evaluate."

An hour later, the oak doors of Lorenzo’s private study were locked from the inside. The velvet curtains were drawn tight against the morning sun.

The atmosphere in the room was a masterpiece of lethal tension.

Lorenzo Falco sat behind his mahogany desk.

Marco stood by the fireplace. Roselia and Raisa sat together on the leather chesterfield sofa, their postures rigid and hyper-vigilant.

Arielle was safely across the estate, sitting in the quiet medical wing with Ana.

Enzo stood in the center of the room. He had just finished presenting the printed dossier, laying out every single piece of the meticulously planted evidence, the phone records, the surveillance anomalies, and the horrifying fragments of the Gambrelli history.

The silence that followed his presentation was enough to crush bone.

Roselia was the first to move. The pregnant Italian assassin reached forward, picking up the dossier from the coffee table. She flipped through the pages, her eyes scanning the data with clinical, unimpressed precision. She tossed the file back onto the glass with a sharp, dismissive clatter.

"This is garbage," Roselia announced, her voice ringing with unapologetic certainty.

Raisa leaned back against the sofa cushions, crossing her arms over her chest. The Bratva princess nodded in immediate agreement.

"It is a beautifully constructed piece of fiction, Enzo.

But it is fiction. I have fought beside that woman.

I watched her stand in the center of a crossfire at the docks to protect this family.

A traitor operates in the shadows. They do not step in front of bullets for you. "

"I agree," Lorenzo stated, his deep voice carrying the final, unyielding judgment of the Don.

He steepled his fingers resting his chin against his hands.

"Look at the mechanics of the accusation.

It is a masterpiece of character assassination, designed specifically to prey on our paranoia.

But it lacks the fundamental core of any true betrayal. It lacks a motive."

Lorenzo looked at his youngest brother. "She gains absolutely nothing by selling out our archives, Enzo.

She already has access to the highest echelons of this estate.

If she wanted to destroy us, she could have done it a dozen times over without leaving a digital trail.

Whoever executed this breach, is trying to force us to eliminate our own allies. "

Enzo let out a ragged, trembling breath, running his hands over his face. He felt as though he had been standing on the edge of a sheer cliff for hours, and his family had just reached out to pull him back from the drop.

"So what do we do?" Enzo asked, his voice thick with exhaustion and lingering confusion.

"We will be cautious," Lorenzo decreed, his tactical mind organizing the board.

"We do not ignore the anomalies. We close ranks around her, subtly.

We maintain a protective perimeter, but we do not make it obvious.

She is not to know she is a suspect in a digital frame job. It would break her trust in us."

Marco stepped away from the fireplace, crossing the room to stand directly in front of his younger brother. He gripped Enzo’s shoulders with both hands, his eyes locking onto Enzo’s exhausted ones.

"Listen to me, Enzo," Marco commanded gently, his voice a fierce, brotherly vow.

"You are not going to let this tear you apart.

We are not going to blindly trust the data.

We are going to check the surveillance. We are going to run the algorithms, and we are going to check them a million times over.

We will not take a single action, and we will not cast a single judgment, until we have stripped this lie down to its core. Do you understand me?"

Enzo looked at Marco, then to Lorenzo, and finally to the two fierce women sitting on the sofa. He saw the unyielding, unbreakable loyalty of his bloodline. They were not going to let him drown in the paranoia.

"I understand," Enzo breathed, the terror finally beginning to release its grip on his chest.

He knew the road ahead was going to be a grueling, agonizing test of his intellect and his heart. But surrounded by the formidable strength of the Falco dynasty, Enzo knew he was not fighting the ghosts alone.
