Chapter 5 Fake Breakfast
The next morning I got up at the usual time. When I went downstairs to make breakfast, I found it already prepared on the table.
Jiang Shuo took off his apron and gave me a blank nod. "Morning. Eat. I made it."
I glanced at the discarded hotel packaging in the trash, then at the luxurious breakfast spread. Only the few slightly burnt pieces of toast were probably his work.
I didn't expose him. "Wow, this is so generous. You're really capable."
Jiang Shuo answered, his voice lifting slightly. "It's nothing. When the auntie isn't home I often get up early to prepare breakfast."
Prepare breakfast meant ordering takeout.
I almost laughed. After all, the guy in front of me came from a wealthy family. I understood and played along. "Then your family must be very happy."
Jiang Shuo answered with obvious good mood.
From the corner of my eye I saw Chu Yanxu coming down the stairs. Jiang Shuo suddenly said to me, "My grandfather never let my grandmother enter the kitchen."
I thought for a while but still couldn't understand what he meant.
Jiang Shuo gave the newly arrived Chu Yanxu a disgusted look. "How can someone wake up later than the girl he likes?"
Chu Yanxu seemed to notice our gazes and gave us a friendly smile.
Jiang Shuo snorted coldly. "And then let the girl he likes serve him food. Does he have no shame?"
I looked at Jiang Shuo, wanting to speak but stopping myself.
It seemed like he hadn't made the breakfast with his own hands either.
After the meal we proceeded with the scheduled team dates.
Me with Chu Yanxu. Jiang Shuo with Zhan Qianqian.
The theme this time was photography. Each pair had to take photos in different styles.
Chu Yanxu was younger than me, so I found it hard to see him romantically, though his energy stood out.
During the shoot he kept suggesting ideas, wanting exaggerated expressions one moment and dramatic poses the next.
The director suddenly called for a pause right after we finished one set.
The director patted my shoulder and said my manager was looking for me. It seemed urgent.
I felt a little lost. My manager usually wouldn't come find me during filming.
My manager waited at the door with a heavy expression.
The first thing she said when she saw me was, "Don't log into Weibo today. Don't look at Trending Search. It's best if you don't touch your phone at all."
I looked at her in confusion. "Did something happen?"
She shook her head. "It's nothing major. Just focus on filming and relax today. The company will handle it."
I didn't want her to worry, so I agreed and decided to finish the day's shoot first.
