Chapter 39

Kyle

Sean and I don't make it out of the rink until 6pm and both of us are itching to get home to our girls, they’ve been bombarding us with photos of the living room. The coffee table is littered with snacks, more than I know for a fact, any of us can stomach…well, maybe Sean can, the man’s like a human dustbin. Molly and Callie have chosen a film, no doubt it’s a cringey, vomit worthing movie. But to be honest, I'm kind of in the mood to just dig my face into Molly’s neck and fall asleep, so I don’t really give a shit about the movie they’ve chosen. The two of them have been attacking Sean and I via text for the last hour. Since we told them we’d be home by 5:30pm and it’s now half an hour past that, as we walk out of the rink into the lingering warmth of the setting sun. Coach was in a particularly harsh mood tonight, throwing extra drills at us like we'd massively pissed him off, especially Sean, who to be fair, likely irritates Coach just by existing right now. Sean was the one who knocked up Coach’s daughter and made him a grandad at the age of 52, which he wasn’t best pleased about for a while. Actually, it’s taken him almost all of Callie’s pregnancy to get his head around the idea. “Fucking hell, Callie has totally blown up my phone in the last half an hour.” Sean huffs, shoving a hoodie over his still damp curls. “She’s threatening to leave my name off our baby’s birth certificate, if I don’t get home in the next twenty-minutes.” He laughs, planting a solid hand on the back of my shoulder as I swing my locker door closed. “Watch yourself man, you might end up like me if you’re not careful. Remember,” he leans closer, his voice a whisper. “Always wrap it before you go in, otherwise you might end up like me.” He smiles brightly after a moment. “I love them both, so much it makes me crazy sometimes, but my god does Callie drive me insane.” We head out of the stadium as Sean continues, “The worst part is, this whole thing was my idea and I already know for a fact, that my daughter is going to be just as fiery as Callie…” his eyes widen and he stops walking in the middle of the lot. “Or maybe she’ll be even worse,” we both shudder in unison at the thought. Callie is scary enough, without adding an even more feisty, mini version of her to the mix.

“Jesus, that’s a scary thought.” I add, unlocking my car. Sean throws his bag into the back and clambers into the passenger seat, still silent with worry. I’d never say this out loud to him, but he should definitely be scared right now. Callie is almost full term and this baby is going to spin Sean’s head so much, he’ll be dizzy for years.

“My sugar daddy will be here in a minute,” Is the first thing I hear out of my girlfriend’s mouth as I enter my house. She doesn’t even know I'm here yet. Her and Callie are laying out even more snacks on the coffee table when she makes her comment and Callie's head shoots up in a mixture of confusion and disgust.

“Molly, what the actual fuck?”

“What?” Molly shrugs, “That’s what he is.”

“Is that right?” I interrupt, as Sean brushes past me with a laugh. He smacks a hard kiss to Callie’s jaw, before falling to his ass on the sofa, the snacks like a magnet to his outstretched hand.

Molly saunters across the living room to me, her hips swaying like a dream. “I didn’t know you were listening, but I stand by what I said, sugar daddy.” I drop my mouth to her ear, so Sean and Callie don’t hear my next words. “Drop the sugar and we’ll both be naked in nought point five-seconds.” Molly chuckles, hooking her arms around my neck and squeezing tight, dropping a kiss to each of my cheeks, then a deeper one to my lips before we part.

Callie and Sean are taking up most of the couch, so Molly and I opt for the extra large armchair. She sits herself on my lap, lifting her knees and snuggling into me, she smells so fucking good I could eat her right now. Callie is fidgeting on the sofa, Sean slinging an arm over her and hauling her close to him, her ever expanding belly getting in the way. She looks so uncomfortable now and I pray silently that she doesn’t have long left, until this baby decides to make a swift exit. Just as the thought floats through my mind, Callie sits up straight, a hand running over the lower part of her stomach.

“I feel weird,” she mutters, curls falling over her cheeks as she presses gently all over her belly.

Sean’s back is pencil straight immediately, his face pale and eyes flickering wildly over Callie’s body. “What do you need? Tell me now Callie, I'm panicking.”

With an extra sassy roll of her eyes, she bats his worried hand away. “Shut up, I'm going to the bathroom.” As soon as Callie is on her feet, striding towards the bathroom that’s located just under the huge staircase, Sean is hot on her tail.

“I don’t need help going to the bathroom Taylor,” we hear Callie yell and the next moment Sean is shoved out of the bathroom. He glances over at us with an anxious, forced smile.

He points to the bathroom door that he was just pushed out of. “She’s just going to the toilet.”

Molly and I nod in unison. “Yeah, we heard.” Molly chuckles smugly and I nudge her cheek with my nose, breathing in every single bit of her delicious smell.

How does she always smell so fucking good?

“Hey,” she whispers, lifting my chin so our eyes lock. “You know I love you right?”

I nod once, flashing her a toothy grin. “That I do.”

“And you know you’ll never get to fuck anyone else for the rest of your life too, right?”

I glance over at Sean, who couldn’t be less interested in our hushed conversation. The poor guy is still pacing outside the bathroom door, waiting for Callie to return.

“Thank god for that,” I say quietly, my mouth hovering over Molly’s ear. “Because there’s nobody else on the planet that I’d rather break with my dick than you Barbie.”

“Maybe you should break me right now, while those two are distracted.” I press my lips against her warm neck, trailing my open mouth up her collar bone to land against her bowed lips. The kiss takes her breath away and for a moment, I forget we’re not alone in the living room.

After less than a second, Callie flies out of the bathroom, curls and eyes equally wild. “Guys,” she croaks, her eyes blinking way too fast. “We may have a problem…I think the baby is coming.”

Everyone is on their feet immediately, Molly is at Callie’s side before I can blink and Sean is yanking at this curls, his hand instinctively cradling his baby’s home.

“What? How do you know?” He almost yells and Callie swallows hard, her cheeks flushing red with guilt.

“Well, I’ve been having contractions on and off since 4 o’clock this morning and now my waters have broken.” She says quietly, looking at the ground and twiddling the delicate silver bracelet that lays against her wrist. Why wouldn’t she tell Sean that she was having contractions all day? But when I glance over at Sean, who’s now pacing around the kitchen, I understand why she kept this to herself, he’s a nervous wreck. “Why didn’t you tell me Cal, why?” He says, fingers still deep in the bed of curls that lay on his head.

Callie simply shrugs. “I knew you’d panic.”

Sean’s eyes widen and his hands fly through the air. “Well, yeah!” “It’s fine,” Callie says calmly, “let’s just watch the movie and then go to the hospital.”

I worry Sean’s eyes might actually fall out of his head, as he looks at her like she’s just escaped a mental hospital. And I can’t say I blame him, she’s fucking crazy. This whole situation really sums Callie up, she never wants to worry anyone, just suffers in silence until the absolute last resort is to let someone know she’s struggling. She’s always been a fighter, but now is not the time to try and deal with this alone, she needs Sean and Molly by her side. She asked Molly to be with her when she gives birth, and of course, my girl agreed, she’d do literally anything for Callie and I mean anything. When we first met, I was convinced the two of them would cover a murder for each other if needs be, even helping the other one to hide the body. There’s no other loyalty comparable to a pair of girl best friends, I’ve learnt how deep the roots of their friendship really go over the past year. “You want to watch the—?” Sean starts, absolutely speechless to his girlfriend's request, before he turns his exhausted expression to me. “How did this happen to me? Why did I think this was a good idea?” He points at Callie, his other hand still gripping the back of his neck. “She’s fucking crazy!”

“Hey!” Callie jabs a finger through the air back at him, her eyes fiery as always. “I’m a catch and you know it.”

An idea flickers through my brain and I initially dismiss it. But as I look at my favourite people in the entire world, I begin to think maybe now is the right time, so I open my mouth and spill my idea onto Sean. “Do it now man,” I say, keeping my voice calm and trying to hide my impending excitement from Callie.

“Do what?” She says, narrowed eyes land on me and then back on Sean. Molly is standing slightly behind her best friend and she throws me a wink that Callie can’t see. She’s been in on this plan for the last few months too and I know she’s even more excited than I am to see it in action. Sean drops his hands into his pockets nervously. “Now? Are you sure?” Molly and I nod, and she tips her head to him, gesturing for him to do as I say. “Go on Taylor,” she says, “we don’t have all day.”

Callie is getting increasingly frustrated at being left out of whatever is going on around her, so she huffs and fists both hips. “Can someone tell me what the hell is going on?”

Sean holds her confused gaze for a beat, before striding over to where his black jacket hangs in the hallway. He’s rummaging in the pocket and pulling out a turquoise, velvet box. Callie’s eyes are wide with either heart stopping excitement or horror, I'm not quite sure which.

“What the hell is that thing?” She stutters, her bright green gaze not knowing where to land. She turns to Molly for a moment, who is back at my side, tucked under my arm as always and Molly gives her a quick nod of support.

“What do you think this is?” Sean murmurs, taking her slightly shaky hand in his.

Callie muses for a moment and I see the uncontrollable sass flash in her eyes. “A G-Wagon?” She snickers and Sean squashes his smile with a flat lipped expression, even though I know he’s dying to grin back at her. This moment is so important to him and I know how long he’s been desperate to ask Callie this very important question. Almost since the moment he met her, he knew this thing between them was forever. I watched from the outside as their relationship flourished and it wasn’t a smooth path, but they made it and I'm so god damn proud of both of them. Sean drops to one knee and I feel Molly tense beside me, a tiny sniffle coming from her nose, making me tuck her deeper into my side. “Callie, please marry me.” Sean says, his eyes pleading. “I know you have your reasons for wanting to wait. But I want to bring our baby into this world with a mum and dad who are at least promised to each other.” He lets his grin finally break through, as he looks up at the woman who makes his life complete. “Come on baby, what do you say?”

Callie’s humoured, purse lipped smile turns to Molly for a moment, the two of them exchanging a look that I can’t decipher. Before Callie looks back down at Sean with a bright, cheesy grin.

“Ok, fine, you win.” She breathes, rolling her eyes playfully, but I can tell how elated she really is. The two of them share a long hug, pouring their love onto each other and silently sharing the things they don't need to say out loud.

Callie gawks when Sean slips the ring effortlessly onto her finger, like it was made for her. It’s very likely that it was designed especially for Callie, Sean doesn’t do anything by halves and he definitely has the juicy bank account to always get his girl the very best of everything. Sean takes Callie’s face in his hands and kisses her, a kiss so hot, I feel like I'm intruding in my own home. But before long, the reality of what’s happening right now crashes down on us all.

Callie hisses slightly, holding her stomach. “On second thought, maybe the film can wait, but she certainly can’t, so let’s go to the hospital.” Sean jumps in the air, his fist punching a hole above his head. “I’m going to be a daddy!” He yells, smile bright and full of anticipation.

Molly glances up at me, her blue eyes shining. “We’ll never end up as crazy as them right?”

“I fucking hope not.” I chuckle, pressing a light kiss to the corner of her lips.

She grins. “You promise?”

I hook her pinky with mine and my heart squeezes hard. “I promise.”
