57.
Looking at the screen, tears formed in Preet's eyes in happiness. Veer held her hand firmly and kissed her temple softly. His lips curved in a beautiful and affectionate smile as they were looking at their baby on the ultrasound screen.
"Your baby is absolutely healthy, dear. Perfectly grown for a 22 weeks baby. You see those tiny legs and arms, huh?" the doctor said pointing on the screen.
Preet chuckle bobbling her head and look at Veer,
"Our baby, Veer…" she whispered emotionally.
"Yup, our baby," he said as his gaze was fixed on the little baby structure on the screen.
The bliss they are feeling right now is out of the world. They still can't believe and still get overwhelmed that a cute little human is going to come into their life soon. The feeling of carrying a little part of your and your love is so surreal and beautiful.
"Wait a second,…goodness!!" Suddenly the doctor exclaimed and gasped looking at the screen.
Preet's body froze in panic while Veer felt his heart suddenly drop in fear.
"Now you have to be more careful of your health, Preet. It's not going to be easy for you both, you know right? " Veer nodded while Preet gulped in anxiety.
After some time they come out of the doctor's cabin. Veer helped her to sit on the chair in the waiting room.
"You okay, Preet?" He gently held her hands in his to provide her the comfort she needed. She looked at their intertwined hands.
Letting out a shaky breath, she looked up with tears glistening in her eyes. She leaned against his chest and broke down into tears. Veer wraps his arms around her and kisses her head gently a few times.
"Don't worry Preet, everything will be okay," her sob now turned into sniffing and hiccups.
"How will we manage Veer?" she asked in her broken voice.
"I am here na, love. We both are together in this. Everything happens for a reason, Preet. And why are you thinking negatively, huh? It's such a beautiful surprise, isn't it? We will have double happiness. God truths us and loves us, that's why he blesses us with two babies.
We should be happy and thank the almighty for such a beautiful blessing," He lovingly said with a big smile on his face.
He is genuinely happy with the surprising news that they get to know today.
She nodded but she is still overwhelmed and emotional at the surprise they got today.
She looks at her baby bump and softly caresses it lovingly. An affectionate smile formed on her face. Again she looks up at Veer, who has a charming smile on his face.
"Ready for the double trouble, Papa Veer," she said, grinning with tears to which he chuckled softly and kissed her forehead lightly.
"Super ready!"
They are having twins. Two babies together. She is carrying two cute little humans in her womb.
That's why her baby bump is always bigger than a normal pregnant woman. Viddhi, who is Riddhi's mother, is right now 8 months pregnant and has the same size of baby bump as her 5 months bump.
"Let's go home then," she snapped out of her thought and nodded.
Taking her hands in his, Veer helped her to stand up and started walking out of the hospital with his arms gently wrapped around her waist.
"You are so bad, Veer. I won't talk to you. Stay away from me. I was literally begging but you heartless husband, don't you feel sad for me. Those sugary cotton candies were calling me but you!!Stupid! I am so angry… go go away,
" Veer rolled his eyes seeing her glaring at him with an angry pout on her cute face.
"Y..you are rolling your eyes at me. Am I annoying you that much huh?" Now he wanted to smack himself and look at her face, silently pleading her not to cry but it's too late as big fat tears were already rolling from her eyes. She sniffed and gently pushed him away from her.
She started walking toward their house entrance, slowly muttering curses for him.
"Preet, love…listen to me. I am not rolling my eyes, umm.. just looking up at the sky. See, the sky is so clear and beautiful," she turned to him with narrow eyes and gave him an angry 'really' look.
"Then stay outside only no need to come inside the house, Mr. Sky is clean," she taunts and gives him a tight smile.
"Preet meri Ja-" Suddenly his heart drops and his body freezes in panic when Preet stumbles into something as she was looking at him while walking ahead.
Veer bolts to her but someone already holds her shoulder before he reaches her.
Preet looked up as gulp, still feeling heart pounding inside her chest in panic. She had her hand on her heart as she looked up but her body went still seeing the person in front of her.
"Preet you okay," Veer asked her, ignoring the person in front of him.
She nodded absentmindedly then again looked at the person who was looking at her with a guilty face. Veer also turned to thank the person but then froze in surprise.
"Are you okay, Preet?" she asked, making them snap out of their shock.
Preet tried to act normal and nodded.
"Thank you,"
While Veer looks away and gulps. He is not ready for this. But suddenly he looked down feeling a light tug. His face relaxes and his eyes soften looking at the little bundle of joy.
A cute giggle turns everyone's attention on a little boy sitting on the floor. Veer immediately bent and took him in his arms, making him cuddle into his chest.
Preet smiles widely at them before again looking at Damini who is looking at Veer and Atharva with a weak smile.
The woman she had seen a few months back was so different from the woman who was standing in front of her.
It's like she suddenly aged in just a few months.
Her face is dull and weak. The aura of authority and power that was reflected from her face was replaced by the gloominess and pain.
Somewhere it hurt Preet to see her like.
Preet was about to bend slightly to take her blessing but Damini instantly stopped her and shook her head. Tears formed in the old woman's eyes.
"No!! You shouldn't bend," she said in her soft voice.
Veer looks at them from the Atharva who is playing with the collar button.
"Please come inside," Preet said, inviting her inside while Veer already went inside with a giggling boy in his arms.
Damini looked around the small cozy house as she sat on the sofa. She smiles remembering her few visits to this house when Naina was alive and not married to Ranveer.
"I will come with a tea," Preet said but Damini stopped her.
"Don't bother too much. I am fine. How are you?" Damini politely refused.
"I am good, Dadi," she said and hearing the word 'dadi' Damini looked down to hide her tears.
"I am sorry," she whispered looking at Preet with remorse.
But Preet gave her a smile and shook her head.
"I am not the one. It's Veer whom you hurt,"
"I know but I don't have the strength to face him," she murmured softly.
They stay silent before a loud happy laugh of Atharva echoes in the house. Preet smiles and turns to see Veer coming out of the kitchen with Atharva.
Veer had a genuine smile on his face as he was chuckling with the little baby, making the baby laugh more.
As soon Atharva's eyes fell on the smiling face of Preet, he started wiggling and whining to reach out for her.
Veer came to her and gave her the restless little boy, making him snuggle into her chest as soon as she embraced him.
Damini smiles looking at the love they are showing on Atharva but then her smile turns into a sad one as she looks at the emotional face of Veer when he looks at her.
Feeling the coldness between her husband and Damini, Preet turn to Veer and whispered near his ear,
"Talk to her, Veer. I am in the garden with Atharva,"
Veer frowns and opens his to protest but seeing her plead eyes.
"Please...for me," She whispered and smiled when he sighed deeply.
Hugging gently, she slowly walked out of the living area while talking with her cutie pie in a baby voice.
An awkward silence prevailed in the room as Preet disappeared from their sight. Veer's face turns cold and blank while Damini looks at him with a longing gaze.
"I am sorry, Veer," Damini said in her heavy voice.
Veer looks at her and stares at her face which is filled with remorse.
"You shouldn't be. After all, who am I to you right?" he softly said, giving her a small smile.
Damini shakes her head as a tear escapes from her eyes.
"Don't say this, Veer. I know I was wrong. I shouldn't blame you for Ranveer and Naina's death ... .but I don't have any excuse to prove myself right because I am not. I realize my mistake but I know it's too late. Still, if you could please try to forgive me. I can't live with this guilt,
" she broke down as her voice turned into a low whisper.
Veer felt his heart clench seeing the woman who always stood strong and tall in front of everyone is now looking down in front of him.
But he can't just forget whatever he went through in his childhood.
She left him when he needed her the most.
He might not turn into a cold emotionless human if she had given him a little bit of love and care.
He won't have to spread his childhood in loneliness and guilt if she for once told his little innocent form I not blame himself for his parents death.
"I forgave you, Dadi. I forgave you all, the day I left that house and started a new life. But the memories of that house are unforgettable. The walls of Rajvansh Villa saw my smile, heard my laughter, saw my happy self but the same walls also showed the destruction of my childhood, my cry,
felt my pain and loneliness, they heard my silent prayers of death. But one thing I will always be thankful to you for bringing Preet into my life. I will own you for giving me back my peace in the form of her," He said, gratefully looking at her.
Damini looked at his shining eyes and felt peace finding the happy glint in his teary eyes.
"You really love her na?" she asked in a whisper , making his eyes smile slightly.
"More than anything," his reply brought a smile to her face unknowingly.
"I wanted to give you something," she said and took a bag that she brought.
