Epilogue

Julian laughed as he watched his and Sophia’s youngest son, Garrison, chase Jeremiah around the grassy field in front of the stone tower. They were playing a game of tag. Lily raced toward the inside of the ruins, hoping that neither of her brothers spotted her.

Sophia sighed and leaned back on a pillow. “You will have to pull me up when I leave. I’m not sure I can stand on my own.”

He glanced at his beautiful wife. She was round with a child that would be coming within a month. “I’m glad you came out with us.”

“Me too.”

He kissed her belly affectionately.

“Eww! Did you just kiss my mother?” Garrison asked, his voice laced with the type of disgust that only a six-year-old could pull off.

He was in a phase where all affection was gross. Jeremiah chuckled. “You better get used to it. They kiss all the time.”

Garrison groaned, and Julian laughed. Jeremiah looked around. “Where is Lily?”

A handful of small pebbles flew out the window of the stone tower. They all glanced up and she grinned down at them. Garrison yelled, “Let’s go get her!”

Jeremiah chased after him into the ruins. Julian’s eyes began to water. He had to be the luckiest man in the world. Sophia laced her fingers through his and grinned at him. “And they say pregnant ladies are emotional.”

He leaned down and pressed a hard kiss on her mouth. “I have no shame when it comes to showing how much I love our family.”
