A pony stood beside the rose walk wearing one of Elise’s blue ribbons in its mane, the gravel path had acquired three sets of muddy footprints, and Adelaide’s youngest child was attempting to scale the Duke of Wolverton as though his father were a particularly inconvenient tree.
