Chapter 56 The Mothers Mercy
The doors to the Extraction Chamber didn’t open; they were deleted.
Lilith stepped into the room, her eyes glowing with a terrifying, artificial blue light.
She was no longer just a scientist; she was the hub of the entire Aegis network.
The silver chrome on her skin had expanded, covering her arms and neck in a sleek, robotic armour.
“You really are a stubborn child,” Lilith said, her voice sounding like a thousand voices layered over one another.
“You would risk the extinction of your sons just to satisfy your own pride? The Global Node will bring peace, Elara. No more wars between packs. No more human hunters. Just a unified, silent world.”
“A world of statues,” I spat, the frost on the floor expanding toward her.
“A world where no one can breathe without your permission.”
“Precisely,” Lilith said.
She raised her hand, and the violet light from the twins’ tanks was suddenly diverted.
A beam of energy hit me in the chest, throwing me against the back wall.
The impact was like being hit by a freight train made of electricity.
My vision went white, and for a moment, I couldn’t feel my limbs.
“The extraction is complete,” Lilith announced, her gaze fixed on the glowing orb of energy forming above the central console.
“The Global Node is online. The ‘Silence’ begins now.”
She turned toward the tanks.
“And as for the donors... they are no longer required.”
She reached for the emergency purge lever.
“No!” Silas screamed, lunging at her.
Lilith didn’t even look at him. She backhanded him with a strength that sent him flying across the room, his ivory mask shattering against the console.
But the distraction was enough.
I ignored the pain in my chest. I ignored the screaming of my nerves.
I threw myself at the console, not to stop the purge, but to reverse the flow.
If the Global Node wanted the Silver Gene, I would give it everything I had.
I grabbed the main conduits, my hands melting into the silver chrome.
“You want the source, Mother?” I roared, the white light from my eyes filling the entire chamber. “Then take it all!”
