Chapter 31 And What They Do in It
And What They Do in It
No matter what she’d said when they’d left the Silver Dollar, it seemed a long walk back.
Heidi’s breath came in shallow pants, her toes were numb with cold, and she slipped a couple of times in the snow.
Morgan seemed firm, her breathing even, and she steadied Heidi when she slipped, waiting until she’d found her footing.
Heidi fumbled for the keycard with gloved fingers, getting it into the slot on the third try.
The room was warm, the heat pumping. She shed her outerwear, and when she stood in her Henley, jeans, and socks, she turned to Morgan.
What would happen now? Would Morgan avoid her eyes, use the bathroom, change into sleepwear, claim her side of the bed, turn her back, and go to sleep?
Or was there more to be had between them?
Morgan, too, now stood in jeans and her sweater.
For long moments, they stared at each other, an expanse of carpet between them.
How had it become so awkward? The kiss in the bar should have them now falling into each other.
It was like the last time they’d kissed—in the kitchen at home—when they’d gone from kissing to stacking the dishwasher.
Heidi’s lips twitched. So prosaic. But they were roommates.
And while she wanted them to be more, it had to be both of them willing to change up their easy arrangement.
After all, it would upend so many things.
Morgan’s tongue touched her lower lip. “This is awkward.”
Heidi nodded.
“We should talk about it.”
She couldn’t bring herself to agree. Talking? What good would talking do now? She took a step forward, picked up Morgan’s hand and set it on her waist. Picked up her other hand and clasped it between her own. “Haven’t we talked enough?”
Morgan stared at her, and, for a moment, Heidi thought she’d turn and walk into the bathroom.
“We have,” Morgan replied.
“I know what I want,” Heidi said. “And I hope you want the same. But it’s your call, Morgan. You make the first move, if that’s what you—”
Morgan lunged forward, and Heidi’s breath slammed out of her as their bodies crashed together.
Morgan freed her hand from Heidi’s and pushed it into her hair, bringing them closer together.
Heidi’s hair caught in Morgan’s fingers, which pulled on her scalp, but she didn’t care.
For now, right now, her body was lit from within, and she knew that this time there was no stopping.
And it was neutral ground. Not her bed, not Morgan’s. Maybe that was the difference. It might be different when they got back home, but right now, she didn’t care.
Morgan kissed her hard, parting her lips, sliding her tongue into Heidi’s mouth.
She tasted sharp: of lime, of tequila, of lust. For long moments, they kissed, tongues caressing, a press of mouths, a lift away to change the angle, and then the kiss returned, deeper, more desirous, until Heidi was drowning in the taste of Morgan and how she felt under her hands.
She dropped her hand to Morgan’s waist, pushed underneath her fleece, under the T-shirt beneath to find soft skin. Her fingers ran gently along the waistband of Morgan’s jeans, over the skin that she just knew would be pale and unblemished.
Morgan shuddered and moved to allow Heidi better access.
Now she could stroke up and down her rib cage until her thumb brushed the underside of Morgan’s breast, encased in something smooth, no doubt shiny, and almost certainly, Heidi guessed, a pale oyster color.
Something refined and delicate, a world away from Heidi’s sturdy white cotton.
She broke the kiss, trailing her lips from Morgan’s mouth to her firm jawline, pressing small kisses up to her ear. A gentle nip on Morgan’s earlobe made her shudder, and her hands tightened in Heidi’s hair.
Heidi’s heart pounded from more than altitude as she slid her lips down Morgan’s neck, finding where the pulse pounded wildly. Then she moved on, pushing aside the neck of Morgan’s sweater to expose her soft throat. A kiss there, another, then she withdrew.
She held Morgan’s gaze as she pulled her own top over her head.
Morgan’s answering smile made a curl of desire trickle down Heidi’s abdomen, to pulse between her legs.
Morgan tugged off her sweater and T-shirt and laid them carefully on the foot of the bed.
Her bra was the palest pink, a bare hint of color. And, yes, it was as satiny as Heidi had imagined. Morgan’s nipples pebbled against the fabric.
Heidi looked down at her own bra and shed it as fast as she could, not wanting Morgan to dwell on its practical and unsexy look.
But when Morgan’s eyes snapped to Heidi’s bare breasts, she knew that the bra didn’t matter.
Morgan swallowed hard, and her eyes glittered in the overhead light as she reached out a finger, dragging it slowly down Heidi’s body in a straight line from the base of her throat to her navel.
Heidi swallowed. That single finger. That unwavering path.
She closed her eyes and could almost feel Morgan’s finger continuing on, following the path to between her thighs.
Her eyes snapped open when Morgan took her mouth again in a kiss that was as soft and sweet as honey, but also as fiery and enticing as a winter campfire.
Morgan reached behind her, unsnapped her own bra, then pulled it away from her body.
She folded the satin in three and set it neatly on top of her T-shirt.
Her gaze sought Heidi’s again, and Morgan snapped open her jeans, and lowered the zip.
It was a practical disrobing, one that was so Morgan: neat, economical of movement, and tidy.
She sat on the bed to remove her thick socks, folding them and placing them next to her bra.
Her jeans, too, were folded leg to leg, then in a neat rectangle.
Her panties matched her bra. Heidi swallowed, thinking of her own mismatched cotton undies.
Morgan lifted an eyebrow. “Are you just going to watch?”
Heidi shook her head. “I’m thinking how our different ways of undressing reflect our personalities. And I’m lacking here.”
“You’re not.” Morgan came closer. “Just do it, Heidi.” Her voice snapped with authority.
Heidi unzipped her own jeans and dragged them down her legs.
They bunched at her feet, caught on the cuffs of her thick socks, but she persevered, sitting on the bed to tug them off.
Finally, they came free, along with the socks caught up inside.
She kicked them away, and they came to rest under a chair.
Naked apart from her undies, her heart pounding heavily against her ribs, she stood again to face Morgan.
Morgan pulled back the comforter and the crisp white sheet. Then she held out a hand.
When Heidi took it, Morgan tugged, and Heidi overbalanced, landing on the bed next to Morgan, almost crushing her. With a swift movement, Morgan pressed Heidi’s shoulders back onto the mattress and leaned over her.
“Now I have you where I want you.”
Heidi arched up, reaching for Morgan’s shoulders, desperate to feel her mouth on hers once more.
“Stay still.” Morgan’s voice was an authoritative purr. “Don’t move until I tell you.”
Morgan was a top? Why was she not too surprised? A pulse, heavy and hot, settled between her legs, and her nipples ached to be touched. “Make me.”
“I will. If necessary.” Morgan’s hands clasped around Heidi’s wrists, pushing them gently above her head. “Are you okay with this?”
So, a considerate top, then. Heidi nodded and arched her back again, raising her breasts.
Morgan looked down. “I love your breasts. And I will give them all the love. But first…” She leaned in and kissed Heidi once more, swooping her tongue in a slow dance around Heidi’s mouth.
Her grip around Heidi’s wrists loosened, but when Heidi tried to tug a hand away, the grip tightened once more.
She turned her head away from Morgan’s kiss. “I want to touch you.”
“You will. But not yet. Don’t move until I tell you.”
The pulse between her legs was a heavy thud now. Heidi pressed her thighs together, desperate for a touch.
Morgan released Heidi’s wrists, and her hands twisted in Heidi’s hair for a moment, then framed her face as she took Heidi’s lips in a deep and drugging kiss before lifting away again.
Heidi squirmed, pressing her thighs together and releasing them.
Then Morgan’s mouth covered Heidi’s nipple, and the hot, wet suction was almost too much.
Morgan drew back, flicking Heidi’s nipple with her tongue, a gentle scrape of teeth that sent a shaft of heat directly to Heidi’s clit, before Morgan covered the nipple with her mouth again.
Heidi’s hands fisted, and she couldn’t help herself, bringing them down to hold Morgan’s head against her breast.
Morgan raised her head. “Not until I say.”
Heidi trembled, already on the edge, and, with Morgan’s words, her abdomen tightened. She raised her hands above her head once more.
“Do you know how glorious you look like this?” Morgan met her eyes before her gaze swept down Heidi’s body.
Heidi shook her head silently. Oh, she loved her body, how it looked, how it felt, what it could do, its strength and softness, but she knew, objectively, she was no goddess of beauty.
“You’re beautiful,” Morgan said softly. “And I bet you’re wet for me.”
Heidi melted at the words. Her clit throbbed. “You’ll have to find out.”
Morgan sat back on her heels, and her fingers hooked into the waistband of Heidi’s panties. Morgan tugged, and Heidi lifted her hips so Morgan could drag them down her thighs. Again, she folded them before reaching to place them on the chair.
And then Morgan’s hand ran up from Heidi’s knee, insistently pushing her thighs apart. “You’re soaking.” Three fingers stroked down Heidi’s mound, then cupped her.
Heidi shifted, the burning need to be touched, properly, firmly, consuming her. She spread her legs wider.
