Chapter 40

Genevieve

Standing up, he took me into his arms once again, not wanting to let go of me. And all I could do was to take deep breaths as his masculine cologne lingered around us. A tone of wood and spice.

“I can’t believe you’re here.” I cry, my head pressed against his chest, listening to his heartbeat.

“Where’s Esme?” He asked, his tone deep.

“Esme...” I hesitate, looking back at Darcelle.

“She’s living among others.” She cuts me off, tears still running down her face.

“What?” He sounded confused.

“I...”

“My gut told me to believe her.” I spoke quietly, still not knowing if it was the right thing to do.

“Why do I recognize you so much?” He asked again, looking at the beautiful woman.

“Because... I’m your sister.” The words barely rolled off her tongue as her sobs continued.

“What?”

“I know that you don’t believe-”

“Thats why you look just like my mother, our mother.”

“Yes.” She says, barely being able to speak as her head nodding in agreement.

“Oh...” The sound leaves Ector’s mouth as he breaks down.

The two of them hugged each other tightly right before me and it made a proud feeling spread through me. I had done the right thing. But it makes me long for my sister even more, her hugs and smile, her warmth.

As I stood there, staring at them like a freak, the witch held out her hand. I reach forward and immediately she drags me into their loving moment.

“Thank you.” She says, placing a kiss filled with magic and hope on my head.

Suddenly, I can see Ector’s wings move in the corner of my eye. “What?” He lets out.

“Your wings!” I shouted, giggling and drying my tears with the back of my hand.

“My?” He turns his head as much as he possibly can and as the realization hits him, the biggest smile I’ve ever seen appears on his lips. “My wings!” He continued, tears running down his handsome, scarred face as he took off from the ground.

We stared at him in awe as he flew around above us. Feeling a hand settle on my back, I look over to the girl that holds the same eyes as the man I love. “Go.” She smiles, nodding towards Ector.

And with a wobbly smile, I give her a tight hug before I gather all my strength and take off to meet him in the air.
