Chapter 11
Harmony stepped off the elevator on the fourth floor and made her way down the hallway with a plastic bag swinging from her wrist. She had stopped downstairs to grab Lyric a few snacks and a slushy before coming up. After finding her room, she pushed the door open and walked inside.
“Hey sister.”
“Hey sister,” Lyric replied.
After being rushed to the hospital on Thanksgiving, doctors discovered Lyric wasn't actually in labor.
The contractions she was having were real, but they were able to stop them before things progressed any further.
Between carrying twins, being high-risk, and stressing herself out nonstop, her body basically reached its limit.
The doctors pumped her full of fluids, gave her medication to calm the contractions down, and ordered strict bed rest. Now they were keeping her for observation a little longer just to be safe.
“I brought you snacks,” Harmony shared, handing her the bag.
“Ouu! Thank you!”
For a few minutes, neither of them said much. The television played in the background while Harmony got comfortable in the chair beside the bed.
“How you feeling?”
“A little better.”
“Just a little?”
“My stomach still tight every now and then, but nowhere near like Thanksgiving.”
“Good. Cause girl, you had us scared.”
“I scared myself,” Lyric admitted.
The room went quiet for a second before Harmony spoke her mind.
“You know you gotta stop stressing over Vonte’s bitch ass.”
“Here we go.” Lyric rolled her eyes.
“I’m serious.”
“Can we not talk about him?”
“You ain’t got to talk about him, but you better listen. And I know it’s easier said than done, but you got to put you and your kids first. Fuck Vonte, fuck Domo, and fuck they baby. You gone always come out on top. You better start acting like it.”
“I know, sis. I know.”
Before Harmony could say anything else, Melody walked in carrying a plastic bag as well.
“Hey sisters.”
“Hey sister,” Harmony and Lyric spoke back in unison.
“Here, fat ass. It’s just like you asked, a beef dipped with extra cheese, extra hot peppers, and mayo.” Melody handed off the bag.
“Aw, y’all really love me.”
“Unfortunately,” The two oldest said in unison.
“What y’all got going on?” Melody leaned against the window and asked.
“I been here about thirty minutes… Trying to tell her not to let Vonte stress her out.”
“And definitely don’t worry about them bitches that jumped you,” Melody added.
“Mel, no! Bitch, you out on bond,” Harmony replied.
“And you think I give a fuck about that?
“Melody.”
“Man, whatever happens, happens, but y’all know me better than anybody. I ain’t letting that shit slide.”
Harmony shook her head but didn’t bother arguing. Trying to talk Melody out of revenge was like trying to talk Lyric out of eating. Once her mind was made up, it was made up. And honestly, that was the scary part. Melody genuinely didn’t give a fuck. She was so smart, yet so dumb.
Before the conversation could go any further, Harmony’s phone started ringing. She glanced down at the screen.
“I’ll be back,” she stood to her feet.
A few seconds later, she stepped out into the hallway and answered.
“Where you at?” Nick’s voice came through.
“At the hospital with Lyric.”
“I thought we was kicking it today.”
“We are. I’ll be on my way in a little while.”
Harmony ended the call before he could say anything else and walked back into the room with a mug on her face.
“What’s wrong?” both her sisters asked.
“Nick just getting on my nerves.”
“Is Nick getting on your nerves, or do Legend got all your attention?” Melody quizzed.
“I love Nick.”
“That’s not what I asked.”
“Girl, don’t try to clock my tea.”
“She definitely clocked it.” Lyric tapped her fingers together.
“I’m just saying, dealing with both of they asses is becoming stressful. I’m literally with Nick during the day and Legend at night. It’s like I’m living a double life.”
“You created this problem,” Melody pointed out.
“I know,” Harmony groaned.
After hanging around for another twenty minutes, Harmony checked the time and stood up.
“Aight, I’m finna go see Nick and I’ll be back before visiting hours are over.”
“Love you, sister.”
“Love y’all, too.”
Harmony left the hospital a few minutes later and headed across the city. Once she pulled up outside his house, she grabbed her phone and called him.
“Come outside.”
“Aight.”
A minute later, Nick came out and climbed into the passenger seat. The second he shut the door, he looked at her.
“You want to come in?” he asked.
“Is your brother home?”
“Yeah.”
“Then no, I’m good.” Harmony shook her head.
“Damn. Why?” Nick frowned.
“Because your brother weird.”
“Weird? The fuck you mean weird?”
“Bae, I’m like one hundred percent sure Rodney be listening at the door when we be fucking.”
“Man, get the fuck outta here. No, he don't.”
“Yes, he do.”
“No, he don't.”
“Now why would I just make up some shit like that?”
“Because you’ll find any excuse not to be alone with me.”
“Oh my God. Here we go.” Harmony rolled her eyes.
“I’m serious.”
“Nick, I’m tired of arguing about the same shit. It’s not my fault I been busy working and shit while you got all this free time.”
“Free time? You say it like I’m just sitting around on my ass. I’m trying not to go back to my old ways, but that shit hard.”
“I get that, baby. I’m just saying….”
“Nah. What you saying is… a nigga a bum.”
“Bro, I am not saying that.”
“That’s exactly what you saying.”
“No, it’s not, you just in your feelings.”
“In my feelings? G, I’m not no motherfucking bitch. I don’t get in my feelings.” Nick barked.
“Oh my God. I did not come over here for this.” Harmony dropped her head against the steering wheel.
“You know what, Harmony? Fuck you!”
Before she could respond, he threw the door open, climbed out, and slammed it behind him. Harmony watched as he stormed back toward the house, shaking her head in disbelief.
“Boy, bye,” she muttered under her breath before pulling off.
She had only been driving for a few minutes when her phone started ringing. The irritation on her face disappeared the moment she looked at the screen and saw Legend’s name.
“Hey,” she answered.
“I miss you.”
“I miss you too.”
“I want to see you.” Legend replied.
“Where you at?”
“On my way to the crib. Skyy making seafood. You need me to come get you?”
“Nope. I'm already in the car. I'll meet you there.”
“Bet.”
The call ended, and just like that, the argument with Nick got pushed to the back of Harmony’s mind. By the time she reached Legend’s place forty-five minutes later, it barely crossed her thoughts at all.
Harmony pulled up outside the house and stepped out of the car. Before she could even make it to the door, it swung open and Skyy stepped outside.
“Hey girlfriend,” both spoke in unison.
The two ladies laughed before heading inside.
“Damn, it smell good in here.”
“Good, I hope you hungry because I got crab legs, mussels, shrimp, lobster, potatoes, corn, and some more shit.”
“Girl, seafood is my favorite. I'm ready to eat.”
“Shiddd, I’m ready to eat too.” Skyy licked her lips while looking her up and down.
Together they made their way toward the living room where they found Legend stretched across the couch watching a movie. The second he saw Harmony, his entire face lit up.
“There go my baby.” He stood to his feet and pulled her into a hug
“Y'all better stop being cute and come eat because I worked too hard on this food.”
“Let me find out you just want some loving too,” Harmony smirked.
“And do.”
Before anybody could move, Skyy wrapped her arms around both of them, pulling them into a group hug.
A few minutes later, they made their way into the kitchen and grabbed their bags before sitting at the island.
The conversation flowed while they ate. One minute, they were talking about people from the club, the next, they were debating which city had the best food.
The more time Harmony spent around them, the more comfortable she became.
What started as something strange and confusing had slowly become something she genuinely enjoyed.
They had a chemistry together that was hard to explain.
Eventually, the food was gone, and everybody was full. Harmony and Skyy cleaned up the kitchen while Legend handled the drinks. By the time the dishes were put away and the counters were wiped down, he already had three glasses waiting.
“Look at him being useful,” Skyy joked.
“Man, I’m always helpful,” Legend replied.
Together, they headed into the home theater and settled into the oversized reclining seats. A movie started playing across the massive screen, but before long, nobody was really paying attention to it.
Instead, the three of them found themselves talking.
The drinks loosened everybody up, and the conversation bounced from funny stories to childhood memories to random confessions. Harmony learned more about Skyy's family, heard stories about Legend from before she knew him, and shared a few embarrassing moments of her own that had everybody laughing.
As the night continued, Harmony ended up curled comfortably beside Legend on the oversized sectional.
Somewhere in the middle of a conversation, she felt him lean closer before pressing a kiss against the side of her neck.
The gesture immediately brought a smile to her face.
She tilted her head slightly, allowing him more access while she settled deeper into the cushions.
Legend continued placing slow kisses along her neck while his arm remained wrapped around her waist. Harmony closed her eyes for a moment, enjoying the attention and feeling herself relax even more beneath his touch.
The warmth from the drinks mixed with the comfort she already felt around him made it easy to enjoy the affection.
A few moments later, she felt movement on her other side. Opening her eyes, Harmony found herself looking directly at Skyy. And before she could fully process what was happening, Skyy leaned closer and pressed a kiss against the opposite side of her neck.
The unusual attention caught her completely off guard, causing her to look back and forth between the two of them. Skyy smiled and winked while Legend watched her carefully, giving her plenty of room to react however she wanted.
For a few seconds, Harmony sat there trying to process the situation. If somebody had told her a few months ago that she'd be sitting in a home theater between Legend and Skyy while they both kissed on her, she would've laughed in their face. Yet somehow, that was exactly where she found herself.
Instead of panicking or overthinking it, Harmony laughed and shook her head.
“You know what? Fuck it. I guess I’m fucking them both,” she said to herself with a shrug.
