Chapter 26 Adesua Ridley
Adesua Ridley
Chinatown had a beauty that Adesua would never get over. Paper lotus lanterns flew above her. Bright neon tubes advertised Cantonese restaurants. Wei snagged a copy of Shangbao Chinese Journal of Commerce, while Henrik and Diego took in the smells of the amazing food around them.
Young boys yelled, “Fresh dumplings and hot rice!”
Adesua whispered to Wei in Cantonese, “Delicious.”
Wei saw how her eyes got brighter looking at the food and quickly grabbed some bills to give to the boys in exchange for dumplings and rice for Adesua.
“Here, don’t say I don’t do anything for you,” he said with playful annoyance, putting his arms around her and Henrik.
Wei stopped suddenly, making everyone look at him mischievously.
“I, for one, need a little break. Anyone want to go to the massage parlor with me?”
Henrik and Omar had shot their hands up by the end of the word “massage.” Adesua looked at Diego, who seemed uncomfortable with the idea. They had a silent agreement that they would stick together.
Wei noticed immediately. “Very well, then, Dusie and Diego. Go have fun galivanting around a tea shop. The real men need some time to relax,” he jabbed mockingly.
Adesua shot a look at Diego; she could tell his feelings were hurt, though she knew Wei was coming from a good place.
Diego stood a little taller. “I mean, we can walk by. I’ll take a look. I also don’t want to leave Adesua alone.”
Wei came up to him, roughhousing with him by playing with his hair. “See, my little brother is a gentleman.”
As they approached the building, they spotted a sign with large gold brushstrokes that read “Herbal Baths his anger wasn’t gone yet. Compared to Wei, his short stature was obvious, but that didn’t stop him from invading his space, winding his arm back to throw a striking blow at Wei’s face. Adesua saw the anger in Wei’s face, as if his life had flashed in front of his eyes.
Diego and Adesua pieced together how Amelia could have killed Dale.
They recounted the moment after Adesua saw Dale with Wei.
They’d left in a panic, not wanting any more trouble.
Which made Adesua go near the steps at the back of the house, where she saw Kavita come out of the maze.
They debated on telling the rest of their siblings about what they knew about Amelia, but as each day passed, more secrets that they had all been hiding kept returning from the dead.
Kavita had also gotten into an altercation with Dale when Adesua and Wei were seen caught up at the maze.
