69. The Checkup #3
"Right now you have to go through all the tests. Your husband should stay with you during that."
I glanced at Yugant.
He looked far too pleased with Bhai's decision. I didn't argue further. Honestly, Bhai was right.
I wanted Yugant there. I wanted him to know the things he didn't know about me.
The things I usually ignored or brushed aside.
Together, we entered the doctor's cabin.
The doctor immediately stood up with a smile. Yugant shook his hand. Maybe they know each other.
"How is everyone doing, Mr. Raizaada?" the doctor asked.
"All good." Then Yugant pointed towards me. "She's my wife, Dhwani. We came for her complete health checkup."
"Of course." The doctor smiled politely. "Please have a seat."
We settled in front of his desk.
He opened a file and picked up his pen.
"Mrs. Raizaada, tell me what concerns you're having."
"Actually... I have a long history of thyroid."
The doctor immediately looked up from the file.
"Hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism?"
"Hyperthyroidism."
He nodded and wrote it down. "Since when?"
"Almost six years." His pen paused for a second.
"Are you taking your medicines regularly?"
My throat suddenly felt dry. My fingers twisted together in my lap.
"Mrs. Raizaada?"
I licked my lips. "Yeah... Mostly."
The moment the word left my mouth, I regretted it. The doctor lowered his glasses slightly.
"Mostly?"
I looked down. How could I tell him I haven't taken my morning dose since many days. Like Yugant took care of my night dose, but in stress I forget the morning one. And he was not there to remind me. Though he messaged me once but I still forget.
The silence itself answered the question.
"That means no."
I didn't reply but beside me, I could feel Yugant's gaze burning into my face.
I refused to look at him.
"How often do you miss them?" the doctor asked.
I swallowed.
"Sometimes."
"Sometimes means?"
Ohh God! My fingers tightened around each other.
"A few days."
"A few days together?"
I nodded slowly.
The doctor sighed and made another note.
"Any recent symptoms?"
"Restlessness. My heart races sometimes. I feel anxious for no reason. My hands shake occasionally and..." I hesitated. "I am having a lot of hairfall recently."
The doctor nodded, and scribble something.
"Difficulty sleeping?"
" No. Not at all." I never had any difficulty in sleeping.
"How much weight have you lost since your last checkup until now?"
"I... don't know exactly but I gained around seven kg weight two months ago." I was feeling so proud while saying that.
" Current weight is around 48 kg. She lose that 7 kg, she gained in last four months." Yugant answered beside me. I glanced at him briefly.
I didn't check my weight then how does he knew?
The doctor closed the file for a moment and looked at me carefully. " And when was your last thyroid test?"
"Almost... Six months." The silence in the room became heavy.
"Mrs. Raizaada, hyperthyroidism isn't something you can ignore for months. If your levels are fluctuating, it can affect your heart, sleep, weight, mood and overall health."
" That's why we are here Doctor. To make things right."
Doctor exhaled and wrote a few more things.
"Alright. We'll do a complete thyroid profile, including T3, T4 and TSH. I also want Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, iron studies, CBC and a few routine tests."
My stomach tightened. "That sounded like a lot."
Sensing my anxiety, Yugant quietly placed his hand over mine beneath the table. His thumb brushed against my knuckles.
The simple gesture calmed me more than the doctor's reassurance.
"Don't worry," the doctor said, handing over the test forms. "Let's see the reports first. Then we'll decide the next step. Most importantly, no skipping medicines."
This time Yugant answered before I could.
"Doctor, I'll make sure of that."
Traitor.
I shot him a look while the doctor nodded approvingly.
An hour passed in a blur of tests, forms, waiting rooms and machines.
At this point, I was convinced hospitals were designed specifically to torture people.
My eyes widened in horror as the nurse filled yet another blood vial.
"What the hell?" I stared at the tray. "How much blood do you people need?"
The nurse smiled professionally. "We need this for tests."
At this point, just take the whole body.
My precious blood.
The blood my body worked day and night to produce. And these people were casually collecting it like free samples.
Even if I wasn't feeling dizzy before, I definitely was now.
The nurse finally removed the needle and placed a cotton ball on my arm.
"Press this."
I did with unnecessary aggression.
The moment we stepped out of the pathology room, I immediately held Yugant's arm.
He looked down at me.
"Dizzy?"
"A little."
"A little?"
"Maybe more than a little."
His expression instantly changed. Before I could protest, Yugant slipped one arm beneath my knees and the other around my back before lifting me into his arms.
"Yugant!" I whispered in embarrassment.
"What?" he asked as if carrying me through a hospital was completely normal.
"Put me down. It's embarrassing."
"No."
People were literally looking at us. I buried my face in his shoulder. By the time we reached the waiting area, Bhai was already standing. The moment he saw me in Yugant's arms, his brows knitted together.
"What happened?"
"Nothing." Yugant answered calmly. "Just weakness."
His grip adjusted beneath my legs.
"Let's go make her eat something healthy."
" Reports?" Bhai asked.
" We will get half of them at evening and the rest tomorrow."
For the first time in human history, both men agreed on something without arguing.
I was so shocked I forgot to complain.
Twenty minutes later, I found myself sitting in a café with both of them staring at me like I was a patient on her deathbed.
A large glass of fresh pomegranate juice sat in front of me.
Beside it was a bowl of fruit salad loaded with apples, bananas, pomegranate and papaya.
And because apparently that wasn't enough, they had also ordered a vegetable sandwich, boiled eggs and coconut water.
I looked at the them, annoyed. "Are you guys feeding me or preparing me for hibernation?"
"Eat."
"Yugant-"
"Eat."
I looked towards Bhai.
"Eat, Dhwani."
" Fine." With no support left, I stabbed a piece of apple with my fork and put it into my mouth.
Both men visibly relaxed.
I stared at them in disbelief.
"Do you realize you're both acting crazy?"
"No," Bhai answered. "You're the crazy one."
I gasped.
Yugant pushed the juice towards me. "You haven't been sleeping properly."
Yeah! And the reason is you clearly. I wanted to say that out loud.
" Yeah... my fault."
"Exactly," Yugant mumbled taking a sip of water from bottle.
Bhai nodded."Exactly."
I hated when they teamed up. It felt illegal.
So for the next thirty minutes, I sat there eating fruits and drinking juice while the two most annoying men in my life watched me as if I might disappear if I skipped a single bite but a small, stupid part of me actually liked it.
