Chapter Six. #2

“Nun deserves you; don’t let her convince you otherwise,” Belladonna ordered.

“I’m going to take her to Aunt Kiki.”

Belladonna looked surprised, and then laughed. “Oh, that’s diabolical.”

“Yeah, it’ll be interesting.”

“You’re gonna have to wheedle her into a visit,” Belladonna drawled.

“Nope. My car doesn’t work.”

“Oh, deliver it to Birdie at the garage and… ah… Clever man,” Belladonna finally caught on when I raised an eyebrow at her.

“I’m not so dumb,” I replied.

“We all realise you’re here because of Kiki.

Your allowance here is more than you’d get in another job, and we’re very aware you spend most of it on your aunt.

Nun deserves the best, Blue. That, I think, is you?

She’s not touched another member of the stable for nearly four years.

She doesn’t grasp it, but she’s in a relationship with you. ”

“I know. It’s letting Nun realise that in her own time.”

“I respect your patience, but if you shit on her, I’m going to destroy you,” Belladonna warned.

“I love Nun, ain’t never planning on hurting her. But now that I know what happened to her in the past, I’ll change my approach. It explains why she’s such a control freak. Did you ever get revenge on her parents?” I asked, my mind making a jump.

“No. Nun stated, and was right, that her leaving the faith and her aunt’s arrest and imprisonment would devastate them.

She wasn’t wrong. Her mother had a complete meltdown, and her father was furious.

They’d been linked to the scandal because of Nun’s name.

Everyone knew what they’d done to her,” Belladonna explained.

“They lost face, and Nun was happy with that?” I asked incredulously.

“It was more than that. For three hundred years, their family had dedicated a nun per generation. With Nun leaving and then exposing the rot, it caused ripples that are still being felt. The firstborn sister, Edith, is being forced to put her eldest daughter forward to take Nun’s place.

Her husband sorely objected to that, and trouble was happening because of it,” Belladonna elaborated.

She turned back to the stove, heated more milk, and made another mug of hot chocolate.

“We’re rooting for you, Blue, but we won’t allow anyone to hurt her. Nun’s suffered enough. She doesn’t think she deserves the white picket fence, but she fuckin’ does. More than any of us because she never had a chance until she found us.” Belladonna handed me the mug, and I nodded.

“Nun’s mine.”

“Then let Nun decide that. If you tell her, then Nun’s alpha bitchiness will kick in, and she’ll say no just to piss you off!”

“I’m well aware.” I stood up and moved toward the door.

“Blue, believe me, I’m in your corner. I want you both to be happy.” Belladonna’s voice held a trace of sadness, and I nodded. Her words meant a lot to me.

Priest

Moving quickly and silently, I headed back down to my bunk.

Who would have guessed that getting a drink would give me so much information?

I’d underestimated Blue. I thought him a weak pussy without skills; I was clearly wrong.

Blue was here for different reasons. He needed a background check.

The guy was obviously possessive and in love with Nun, and it rankled me.

The evening I’d had with her had been one of my best, and deep down I wanted more.

While she had eased my needs, I knew that a long-term relationship would be far more rewarding.

Nun had been perfect for me. In the past, I’d been in a couple of relationships built around my desires, but they’d not touched the core of my need.

Nun had. She’d instinctively known what I required and fulfilled that.

The problem was, I didn’t want to share with anyone else.

For a couple of nights, that was fine. Not in a long-term relationship.

While looking for Brielle, I’d realised my life would have to change.

In a way, I resented it, but not putting Brielle first wasn’t an option.

She’d suffered enough. I’d been planning to look around Camden for somewhere, as the club was there.

But I could easily build a home nearer here.

How would Nun handle a sixteen-year-old kid?

Could she manage one, and why the fuck was I prepared to risk buying a house here if things didn’t work out?

Right now Nun hated me, and Blue had a clear lead.

The adage, all’s fair in love and war, wasn’t wrong.

Blue was young enough to move on and find someone else.

I was nearly forty and wanted to settle down.

No offence to Blue, but my needs came before his.

The kid was about to land himself in a war with a master.

Nun

“Will you do me a favour?” Blue asked.

“What’s up?”

“My car’s playing up, and I need to visit Kiki. Can you take me?”

Self-doubt rose in me, and I went to deny him.

“I don’t have time to book an Uber. Kiki has someone coming for an interview and… I don’t trust anyone alone with her.”

How could I say no now? Everyone knew how much Blue’s Aunt meant to him. She’d raised him, and Blue doted on her.

“Yeah. Come on,” I replied. Just as I was leaving, Sapphire barged into the clubhouse.

“Is Poker here?” she demanded.

“Yes, she’s around somewhere. What’s up?” I asked, picking up on her agitation.

“Remember that domestic violence victim, Geri Danvers? Her ex nearly got his hands on her. Two other victims were hurt before he was bounced. The shelter’s reached out and urged us to move her ASAP,” Sapphire explained, jabbing at her phone.

“I gotta drop Blue off at his aunt’s, and I can make my way over,” Nun replied. Sapphire’s eyes darted between us, and she shook her head.

“No, go sort Kiki out. She’s just as important.” Sapphire waved us off, a brief smile crossing her lips as she caught Blue’s gaze, and then she stomped off. What had that been about?

Shoving it from my thoughts, I headed for my Harley with Blue at my heels.

He swung up behind me and wrapped around my waist. Blue always felt right to me when he was riding bitch, like he was exactly where he was meant to be.

I shoved that thought from my mind, too.

I’d have to start setting him free, no matter how much it hurt.

With a glower, I roared out of the compound and took the road to his aunt’s house. It was an error I didn’t see coming because when we parked up, Blue had a look of wonder on his face.

“What?”

“You didn’t ask where Kiki lived!” Blue replied.

I’d just inadvertently shown my hand. Instead of pushing, Blue smiled, dismounted, and turned his head as a car pulled up.

“That’s likely the woman coming for her interview,” Blue remarked.

“Oh, hell no! Get back in your car!” I ordered, getting off my Harley.

Blue looked at me in confusion as I confronted Loretta Brown.

“What the fuck?” Loretta demanded.

“This lady is under RHMC protection. Now get lost, bitch!”

Loretta spat at my feet, and my hand shot out and smacked her around the face.

“Don’t push it, Loretta. I’m fully capable of giving you a beat-down,” I warned.

Loretta eyed Blue. “You could do better than that. Loser!” She climbed back into the car before I could react and drove away.

“Okay, what the hell was that?” Blue demanded.

I liked how he’d let me handle it and hadn’t come over all macho. Blue always knew what to do.

“That was Loretta Brown,” I replied.

“Yeah, that’s right,” Blue agreed as the front door opened.

“She was Loretta Gerrit before.”

Blue recoiled as the truth of who Loretta was sank in. He paled. “Do you think she targeted Kiki?”

“This was a live-in position? No way would Loretta do that. She was probably targeting Kiki as vulnerable and would then rob her. I’ve warned her: if anything happens now, Loretta knows I’ll come for her.

But even so, I’ll have Ace visit and check her security.

Cyber says she’s great at that,” I responded.

“Well, are you joining me or making out in the street?” Kiki called from the door.

“Coming, Aunt Kiki,” Blue replied and took my elbow. Before I realised, he’d marched me up the path and into the house.
