Chapter 28

Rayna

Dominic:

I do not like this.

Being apart from you this long is entirely wrong.

Rayna:

Dominic…it’s 10am

I’ve been gone less than 2 hours

Rayna knew Dominic had every intention of stripping her naked and having his way with her when she went home that afternoon. It wouldn’t happen immediately, but there was nothing in all of Neves that was going to stop it from happening tonight.

There’d been a constant awareness of that knowledge, teasing her skin as she’d worked on the letters in the museum with the curators.

It’d remained at the back of her mind mostly, but it fed her arousal with a constant supply of shameless ideas.

What she wanted to do to Dominic, how she wanted to corrupt him, the way she wanted him to fuck her so damn thoroughly.

It shocked her how intensely the aching sensation spiked the moment she laid eyes on him again when she returned to the farmhouse.

It wasn’t like her. Almost disgustingly embarrassing too, that just the sight of him made her wet and hot.

But excitement outweighed her disdain that a man had that much control over her body.

Because she had equal control over his too.

And bloody woods, Dominic was terrible at hiding it.

Every needy, possessive thought unravelled in his dilated pupils like an endless scroll for her to read.

It was going to cause a problem if they were to successfully hide their involvement, but she couldn’t find it in her to be mad at him when it fed her feminine pride like nothing ever had before.

But that lust in his eyes was replaced by horror when Ash sat Dominic down at the dining table and opened up his medical case.

“Are we done now?” Dominic asked as Ash slipped two vials of blood into a small clear bag.

If Dominic had been standing rather than seated, Rayna was entirely sure he would have been swaying on his feet, about to pass out at the sight of his own blood.

Or maybe it was the process of having his blood drawn that was creeping him out, because he kept glancing nauseously at the hollow of his elbow where he held a blob of cotton wool to ebb the small amount of bleeding.

“Almost,” Ash replied, laying the bag into a slot in his case.

“You have poked and prodded every inch of my body with all your contraptions. What more could you possibly need to do?” Dominic grumbled.

Ash offered him a new, empty vial. “You need to urinate in this.”

From the seat opposite, Rayna got to watch the cartoonish way Dominic’s jaw rolled open.

He quickly bristled. “I beg your finest pardon. I need to what?”

Kelly hooted, and Dominic whipped an embarrassed glare in her direction where she was curled up against River on the fabric sofa.

River dropped his head, trying to curb the grin playing hide-and-seek on his face.

Even Ash’s professional demeanour cracked.

His mouth twitched, and ruby-red eyes glittered with laughter.

“I need a urine sample,” Ash said again.

“Whyever would you bloody need that?”

“To run tests on.”

Ash waved the vial closer to Dominic, but he shrank away like there was pee already in it.

“I’m so glad we stayed,” Kelly muttered through a laughing sigh and wiped the corners of her eyes. “This is the best Thursday night entertainment ever. It’s almost as funny as watching you fail to jump the bridge in Jungle Rumble for like an hour.”

Dominic’s jaw locked as his cheeks pinkened. He shot daggers at her with all the exasperation of an older sibling, then turned his scowl to Rayna with a tilt of his chin.

See this? This is what you left me to deal with, his eyes silently complained.

Apparently, Kelly had been teaching Dominic to play computer games, but his failure to grasp the controls on the keyboard had created a rift in their friendship. All because Kelly had been in stitches every time Dominic had accused the game of being at fault for his struggles.

“Go pee in the bottle, Dominic,” she said, nodding a grin towards the archway.

He let out a discontented sigh. “Must I?”

“Yes,” Ash answered.

Dominic slapped the cotton wool he’d been pressing to his elbow against the table. “It is utterly repulsive that you want me to—to excrete in a bottle.” He snatched the tube from Ash as he stood. “And to announce it in front of two women on top of that…”

He grumbled something under his breath as he headed for the exit.

“You have to give a poo sample after this,” Kelly said with a shrug.

Dominic’s head snapped so fast in her direction, he almost threw himself off balance. “A what?”

A loud laugh burst from Rayna, and Kelly cackled maniacally, collapsing against River’s side as her fiancé tried so hard to tame his laughter.

“Kelly,” River scolded light-heartedly.

“What?” she snickered. “I’m just giving him a heads-up—”

“No,” Dominic immediately bit out at Ash, who grinned over his shoulder. “No, I refuse. I will not. You cannot make me. I do not care what you say or do. That is vile, and I will not—”

“Relax,” Rayna said, laughter fluttering through her words. “You don’t. She’s just messing with you.”

A slow rise of colour drifted up Dominic’s neck and face as his clenched jaw shifted back and forth for several quiet seconds. He jabbed a finger towards Kelly. “I want this villainess gone before I return.”

Then he stomped out the archway, leaving them all in a fit of laughter.

Of course, Kelly didn’t leave with River in the time it took Dominic to pee in the bottle.

Nor did they after he walked back in, red-faced and disgusted, with a tissue-wrapped bundle pinched between his finger and thumb that he handed to Ash.

Instead, Rayna ordered food from their favourite noodle bar, and the five of them had dinner together.

Throughout it all, Dominic stayed fastened to her side like Velcro that had been dipped in superglue.

No matter where she sat or went, he was there.

Next to her, behind her, plodding over like he knew no one else in the room, shuffling his chair so close and then plastering his thigh right against hers with a burn of yearning darkening his golden irises.

Rayna glared at him a few times in warning. But she’d be lying if she said the pathetic way he looked at her, every brush of his leg or hands, his bloody damn proximity didn’t zap static right down to her clit, making her pulse and puddle in impatient excitement for the moment she had him alone.

By the time she and Dominic were waving Ash, River, and Kelly to their cars, the crackle of need coursing through her had turned her into a thrumming vessel of lust.

Rayna’s heart pounded as she closed the front door on the crunch of gravel, placing her and Dominic in a scorching silence. High-voltage tension travelled down the taut string that tethered them together. She didn’t need to look at him to feel it, but oh, she needed to look at him.

She rotated and throbbed sharply enough to steal her breath when she found him looming like a big predator less than a step away.

Fuck.

He held her under his heavy, glazed stare. She gazed back, her tongue swelling and clit rhythmically pulsing his name.

“They left,” Dominic muttered, his deep voice abrading through her belly.

The obvious observation made her mouth curl. “They have.” She angled her face under his as she rested her upper back against the door. “So?”

He swayed with her, pressing a forearm by her head. He brushed the back of his other fingers, feather-light, along her jaw. “We are alone.”

“We are,” she echoed and tracked her hands up over his broad chest. His skin was hot under his T-shirt, the thud of his heart vibrating through her bones. “Now what?”

He slipped lower and teased a finger over the shell of her ear, sparking all her nerve endings down to her toes. “You promised me something this morning.”

“Did I?”

“Yes.” He snaked an arm around the curve of her back, pulling her away from the door and into him. “And I must admit, after all I have endured today, all those hours without you and that damned checkup, my patience is beginning to wear very thin.”

He said that, but they were both touching and talking like they were in no rush. Yet it was still flaming the sexual tension between them hotter, pouring gasoline around their feet while they both held on to a lit match, only delaying dropping it to build up the anticipation further.

Rayna pushed off her heels and arched closer, pressing the bulge of his hardening cock deeper into her stomach. Dominic gave a delicious little flinch and delight skated down her spine.

“Yeah, I can feel how thick your lack of patience is getting.” She gave a slight rock from side to side, teasing him as much as she was taunting her own ache. “But I dunno know.” She cocked her chin. “You think you’ve been a good enough boy for me?”

His breath snagged, and he tensed around her.

She had him there. Trapped between vicious denial and blazing arousal, both of them warred over his brow and set off explosions behind his eyes. Letting either one win would cost him something, but his inability to decide kept him satisfyingly mute.

At least until he embossed her hip with the shape of his fingers and growled, “I am not a boy.”

No, he was a man—with a dick big enough to make her question whether he’d fit. But like a mindless glutton, she wanted him to work her body to the limit and then push her further.

“You’re not,” she agreed, scratching her fingers up his nape. “But I told you, only good boys get rewarded, and you want your reward, don’t you?”

His jaw worked, but when she combed over his scalp, his lips came apart with a shiver. “Yes, dammit. I want it. I deserve it.”

And he took it.

Dominic clutched a fistful of her hair and captured her lips with bruising need and possession.
