29. Serena
I stand in front of the tall mirror in Logan’s sprawling estate, taking in my reflection.
Our sprawling estate.
Dang, that’s going to take some getting used to.
I can hardly believe it’s me. The dress is a dream—delicate lace fitted at the waist and flowing out into a soft, trailing skirt that swirls with every movement. It’s the kind of dress I used to dream about when I was a little girl—the kind of dress that belongs in a fairy tale.
Only today, the fairy tale is real.
Today, I’m marrying Logan.
A year ago, this felt like a distant possibility, something that might happen one day but always far off in the future. But now, standing here, in his magnificent home surrounded by sprawling gardens and ancient oak trees, it feels like my whole world has shifted into place.
The air is filled with the scent of roses and freshly cut grass, the sounds of birdsong mingling with the faint hum of the preparations happening outside.
There’s a soft knock on the door, and Lila steps inside with a bright smile. She’s already dressed in her bridesmaid gown, a soft blush color that complements her skin perfectly.
Lila has been my rock throughout all of this, helping with every detail, from choosing the flowers to making sure I didn’t lose my mind when the caterer tried to swap our menu at the last minute.
“You look absolutely stunning,” she says, her voice filled with awe as she takes me in. “Logan’s going to lose it when he sees you.”
I laugh, nerves fluttering in my stomach like butterflies. “You think so? I just want today to be perfect.”
She steps closer, her hand gently squeezing my arm. “It already is. You’re marrying the love of your life in the most beautiful place, surrounded by everyone who cares about you. There’s nothing that could make this more perfect.”
She’s right. Logan’s estate is breathtaking, with its sweeping grounds that feel like they stretch on forever. The ceremony is set up in the garden, surrounded by a canopy of ancient oak trees that create a natural archway.
White roses and soft pink peonies line the aisle, their scent mingling with the slight breeze that rustles the leaves above. It’s exactly what I wanted—elegant, timeless, and filled with love.
Emily joins us, stepping into the room with a soft smile. She’s dressed in a flowing sage-green gown that brings out the warmth of her hazel eyes. She’s been quiet about her feelings for Brant, but I’ve noticed the way her eyes light up whenever he’s near and the soft blush that colors her cheeks when he teases her.
“You’re glowing,” Emily says, her voice soft as she adjusts a loose curl of my hair. “Are you nervous?”
I shake my head, though my heart is racing. “Not about marrying Logan. Just… everything else. I want it to be everything he deserves.”
Emily exchanges a knowing look with Lila. “Trust me, it will be. Logan’s already head over heels. And you’ve planned this down to the last detail.”
I laugh, feeling gratitude for these women who have been by my side. “I don’t know what I’d do without you both.”
Lila grins, nudging Emily playfully. “Well, we’re not going anywhere. And besides, someone has to keep you from losing your mind.”
Emily smiles, but her expression has a softness, something more profound that lingers between us. “I’m just glad to be here,” she says, and I know she means it.
I reach out and take both of their hands, squeezing tightly. “You two are the best. And I couldn’t have done any of this without you.”
Lila wipes away a tear, pretending to fan her eyes dramatically. “Oh, don’t get me started, or I’ll be crying before we even make it down the aisle.”
We laugh, the sound filling the room and easing the nerves in my chest. For a moment, everything feels light and easy, like the world has narrowed down to just this—me, my closest friends, and the promise of forever that awaits me outside.
There’s a gentle knock on the door, and Dee pokes her head inside. Her face breaks into a grin.
“Goodness, you look like a supermodel,” she says as she enters.
“Like a princess,” Abby gushes as she rushes to hug me tightly.
“So do you,” I tell her as I take in her flower girl dress, complete with a cape, because we can’t have her straying from who she is just for us.
“I can’t thank you enough for allowing the cape,” Dee giggles.
“It’s perfect. We wouldn’t have it any other way.”
“You’re something special, Serena,” she smiles as she leans in and hugs me tightly. “My brother really lucked out finding you.”
“I’m the lucky one.”
“Do I get to throw flowers?” Abby asks.
“Yup, very soon,” I laugh as I smile down at her.
Emily glances at her phone, then back at me with a mischievous smile. “Speaking of forever, Brant’s out there pacing like he’s the one getting married.”
I raise an eyebrow, teasing. “Brant, huh? And here I thought he was just here for the free champagne.”
Emily blushes, her cheeks turning a pretty shade of pink. “He’s been really sweet, actually. But he’s still Brant.”
Lila and I exchange a knowing look. Emily and Brant’s budding romance has been the source of much speculation and gentle teasing between us, and it’s clear that there’s something real brewing between them, even if they won’t fully admit it yet.
“He’s a good guy,” I say gently, watching Emily’s reaction. “And I think he really cares about you.”
Emily bites her lip, her eyes sparkling mischievously. “We’ll see. Right now, today is all about you.”
I nod, but I don’t miss the flicker of emotion in her eyes. I know what it’s like to be unsure, to be on the precipice of something wonderful but scary. And I hope, more than anything, that Emily and Brant find the happiness that’s so clearly waiting for them.
There’s another knock at the door, and this time, it’s the wedding planner, looking flustered but excited. “Serena, it’s time. Are you ready?”
I take a deep breath, feeling the moment's weight settle over me. I look at Lila and Emily, both of them beaming with pride and excitement, and I know that I’m ready. This is the moment I’ve been waiting for.
“Let’s do this,” I say, and we head out together, my heart thundering in my chest.
The garden is even more breathtaking than I’d imagined. Rows of white chairs are filled with our family and friends, all dressed to the nines, their faces lit up with anticipation. The string quartet plays softly, their music weaving through the trees as I take my first steps down the aisle.
Logan is waiting for me at the end, standing under the arch of oak trees that we’d picked out together. He’s dressed in a tailored suit that fits him perfectly, his hair styled just so, but it’s the look on his face that takes my breath away. His eyes are fixed on me, filled with so much love that it feels like everything else fades away.
I can hardly breathe as I take each step, my arm linked with my father’s. He squeezes my hand reassuringly, and I know he’s feeling every emotion that I am. The sunlight filters through the leaves, casting dappled patterns on the ground as I walk, and all I can think is how perfect this all feels.
When I reach Logan, he takes my hands, his grip warm and steady, anchoring me in this moment. I can see the emotion in his eyes, and I have to blink back my own tears as the officiant begins to speak.
“Friends and family, we gather here today to celebrate the union of Serena and Logan, two people whose love has brought us all together on this beautiful day…”
The words blend into the background as I focus on Logan and how his thumb rubs gentle circles over my knuckles, grounding me. We exchange vows, words we’ve written ourselves, and my voice trembles as I speak.
“Logan, you are my best friend, my partner, and my greatest love. You’ve shown me what it means to be truly seen and cherished, and every day with you feels like a gift. I promise to stand by you, to support you, and to love you with all that I am for all the days of our lives.”
His eyes glisten with unshed tears as he begins his vows, his voice deep and steady. “Serena, you’ve changed my life in every way imaginable. You’ve made me a better man, and I can’t imagine a future without you in it. I promise to love you fiercely, to protect you, and to be by your side through every high and every low. You are my forever.”
There’s not a dry eye in the garden as we exchange rings, sliding them onto each other’s fingers with trembling hands. The world feels still, suspended in this perfect moment as the officiant smiles.
“By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Logan, you may kiss your bride.”
He pulls me close, his hands framing my face as he leans in, his lips capturing mine in a sweet, tender kiss filled with every promise we’ve made today. The crowd erupts in applause, but all I hear is the sound of my heart pounding in time with his.
We turn to face our guests, hand in hand, and as we walk back down the aisle, I feel like I’m floating. Everything around me is a blur of color and light, and all I can see is Logan, his smile bright and full of joy.
We make our way to the reception area, a beautiful open-air tent filled with flowers and fairy lights. There’s laughter, the clinking of glasses, and the hum of happy conversations. Lila and Emily are the first to greet us, pulling me into tight hugs, and I can’t stop smiling.
“You did it!” Lila exclaims, tears shining in her eyes. “That was the most beautiful ceremony I’ve ever seen.”
Emily nods, her own eyes misty. “You two are perfect together. I’m so happy for you.”
Brant appears with a glass of champagne in hand and a knowing smile. He slips an arm around Emily’s waist, and she doesn’t pull away, a subtle but telling sign of how things have shifted between them.
“To the happy couple,” Brant toasts, his eyes flicking between Logan and me with a rare softness. “May your lives be filled with love, laughter, and a little bit of chaos—because we all know Logan can’t live without it.”
We all laugh, and I feel a surge of gratitude for this moment, for these people who have become family. Logan wraps an arm around my waist, pulling me close, and I lean into him, feeling the warmth of his touch and the steady beat of his heart against mine.
Today is perfect. Better than I ever dreamed. And as I look around at the faces of the people I love, I know this is just the beginning of the most incredible journey.
With Logan by my side, forever doesn’t seem long enough.
The plane’s engines hum softly beneath us as we take off, the noise vibrating through the luxurious cabin of Logan’s private jet. I sink back into the plush leather seat, feeling the adrenaline of the day still pulsing in my veins.
The evening sun streams through the windows, casting a warm, golden light over everything, and Logan’s hand is firmly wrapped around mine, his thumb gently stroking the back of my fingers. It’s the first moment we’ve had alone all day, and it feels like magic.
“You know,” he says, leaning in closer, using that warm teasing tone I’ve come to love, “I think I’m finally starting to believe today was real.”
I laugh, tilting my head back against the seat. “Same here. I keep expecting to wake up and find out this was all just a beautiful dream.”
He grins, his eyes sparkling as he turns toward me, brushing a stray curl away from my face. “No dream, Mrs. Pierce. This is our reality now.”
Hearing my new last name makes my heart flutter. I’m his, and he’s mine, and nothing else in the world matters now. I squeeze his hand, letting the comfort of his touch sink into me.
“So, are you finally going to tell me where we’re going, Mr. Pierce?” I ask, feigning impatience, though I’m secretly thrilled by the surprise. Logan has been tight-lipped about the honeymoon destination, only hinting that it’s somewhere remote and beautiful, a place where we can just be together with no distractions.
His smile widens, his eyes never leaving mine. “Alright, alright. I’ll give you a hint. It’s somewhere you’ve always wanted to go but never thought you’d have the chance.”
I raise an eyebrow, curious. “That could be a lot of places.”
“True,” he admits, laughing softly. “But I think this one will be extra special.” He pulls out his phone and shows me a photo of a pristine, secluded beach—the kind you see on postcards and in travel magazines but never imagine you’ll actually visit. The sand is blindingly white, the water a dazzling shade of turquoise, and there’s not another soul in sight.
“It’s a private island,” Logan explains, his voice tinged with pride. “In the Maldives. Just us, the ocean, and all the time in the world.”
I gasp, my eyes widening as I take in the breathtaking image. “Logan, this is… it’s stunning. I can’t believe you did this.”
“I’d do anything for you,” he says simply, his eyes soft as they meet mine. “I wanted this to be perfect.”
I lean over, kissing him softly, letting the gratitude and love I feel pour into the touch of our lips. He’s given me so much more than I ever thought I deserved, and this—this private paradise—is just one more way he’s shown me how deeply he loves me.
We spend the next few hours talking, laughing, and enjoying the luxury of having this time just to ourselves. He pours us glasses of champagne, and we toast to our new life together, clinking the crystal flutes gently before taking slow sips.
“I still can’t believe how much everything has changed,” I say, gazing out the window at the sky, turning a deep shade of blue as the sun sets. “My little candy shop has grown so much… and now we own the building. It’s like a dream.”
He smiles, setting his glass down and turning to face me fully. “It’s not just a dream, Serena. You made that happen. The shop is thriving because of your talent, your passion, and your hard work. I’m just happy I get to be a part of it.”
We’d bought the building together just a few months ago, deciding to go forward with Logan’s vision of executive studio apartments. But instead of displacing the current tenants, we’d found a way to incorporate their businesses into the plan, giving everyone a chance to thrive. It was the kind of compromise I never thought was possible, but he made it work.
“And your plan for the apartments is brilliant,” I tell him, my voice full of admiration. “The way you found a way to keep all the shops and make the space work for everyone… it’s amazing.”
He shrugs modestly, but I can see the pride in his eyes. “It’s all about balance. I wanted to make sure we weren’t just creating something new but preserving what was already there. And hey, your shop will be the centerpiece of it all. Everyone will be lining up to get your chocolates and candies.”
I smile. Once just a pipe dream, my little candy shop has become something much bigger. And I have Logan to thank for believing in me and for giving me the confidence to expand and grow in ways I never thought possible.
We talk more about our plans—how the shop has seen a surge of customers, thanks in part to Logan’s relentless marketing strategies, and how he’s managed to win over my heart and the hearts of so many others. I can see how proud he is of our success, and I’m equally proud of the man he’s become, especially in light of everything he’s had to overcome with his family.
“How are things with your parents?” I ask gently, knowing that it’s been a complicated road for him.
Logan leans back, his expression thoughtful. “Better, I think. It’s been a slow process, but they’re coming around. They’ve seen how happy you make me, and I think that’s helped them accept us. Mom even apologized for some of the things she said. She actually expressed regret for not being at our wedding.”
I reach out, placing my hand on his arm. “I’m glad. I know how much that means to you. And I’d like to include them in our future.”
He nods, his eyes meeting mine with a softness that tugs at my heart. “You’ve been amazing through all of it. I know it wasn’t easy, but you’ve handled it with grace. And I think… I think they see now why you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
I smile, feeling a swell of emotion. “They’ve been really kind lately. I feel like I’m finally part of your family, which means everything.”
“You are my family,” Logan says, his voice deep and sincere. “And nothing’s ever going to change that.”
The moment we step off the plane, I’m hit by the warm, salty breeze of the Maldives, the sun already kissing my skin as we make our way to the private boat that will take us to the island. The water is impossibly blue, clear enough that I can see fish darting around the coral below.
I’ve never seen anything so beautiful in my life, and I feel a rush of excitement as the boat glides effortlessly over the water, bringing us closer to our little slice of paradise.
When we arrive, I’m completely speechless. The island is even more stunning in person—palm trees swaying gently, the beach untouched and perfect, the water lapping at the shore with a soft, rhythmic sound.
Our villa is tucked away in the shade, a luxurious bungalow with floor-to-ceiling windows offering an uninterrupted ocean view.
“This is… Logan, I have no words,” I whisper, taking in the sheer beauty of it all.
Logan slips his arm around my waist, pulling me close. “This is our escape,” he says softly. “Just you and me. No business, no family drama. Just us.”
We spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the island, our feet sinking into the sun-warmed sand. We wade in the crystal-clear water, letting it lap around our ankles. And then we sprawl on the secluded beach, bathing ourselves in golden sunlight.
There’s nothing but the sound of the waves and the occasional cry of a seagull, and it feels like the whole world has melted away, leaving just the two of us.
As the sun begins to set, casting a golden glow over the water, we sit on the beach, the sand warm beneath us. Logan’s arm is around my shoulders, and I lean into him, feeling the steady beat of his heart against my side.
“I have something for you,” I say softly, pulling a small, wrapped gift from my bag. Logan looks at me curiously, his brow arching in surprise.
“A gift, huh? I thought I was the one spoiling you,” he teases, but he holds the box like it is the most precious gift ever given—not even knowing what’s inside.
What’s inside is a simple wooden box, and when Logan opens it, his expression shifts from curiosity to shock. Nestled inside are a series of black-and-white ultrasound pictures, each one showing the tiny, unmistakable shape of a baby.
Logan looks up at me, his eyes wide, and I can see the mix of emotions flickering across his face—surprise, joy, disbelief. “Serena… is this…?”
I nod, tears welling in my eyes. “I’m pregnant, Logan. We’re going to have a baby.”
For a moment, he’s completely silent, just staring at the pictures like he’s trying to absorb every detail. Then, he pulls me into his arms, hugging me so tightly that I can hardly breathe, but I don’t care. I wrap my arms around his neck, feeling the warmth of his embrace and the steady rise and fall of his chest.
“We’re having a baby,” he whispers, his voice thick with emotion. “Serena, this is… this is the best gift you could have ever given me.”
I pull back just enough to look at him, my hands cupping his face. “I love you, Logan. More than anything. And I can’t wait to start this new chapter with you.”
He kisses me then, slow and tender, his lips lingering on mine as if trying to savor every
second of this perfect moment. I feel the sun dipping below the horizon, casting a fiery orange glow over the water, and I know that no matter what comes next, we’ll face it together.
As he presses his forehead against mine, his hand resting gently on my stomach, I feel a sense of peace that I’ve never known before. This is our beginning—a new life, a new adventure, and the promise of a future filled with love.
And I know, without a doubt, that this is exactly where I’m meant to be.
