Chapter 44🌜 Nevula

William's POV

The door of our room opens without a creak as we enter our current abyss. Zane follows me inside when I make a beeline for the bed and flop my butt down on it. Every trip to nature and I realise it isn't just my mental health which is weak.

I am physically no better either.

Zane sits down on his bed-the couch. His movements are slower today, almost strained and stressed.

Before I can give it much thought, someone barges inside our room. "Did you not lock the door?" Zane rasps out.

"I thought you were gonna do it." My teeth grind together. Before I can beat his lousy ass, a raging creature bulls towards Zane and jumps straight on his lap. The white, layered coat fluffing around on his chest as the large body plants on him.

"Nevula." Zane scratches the top of her head and she purrs aggressively, rubbing her whole face on his neck, with her paws wrapped around it. "Haven't you grown a lot, hmm? And definitely heavier." He chuckles while the cat chirps with her eyes closed.

I watch the scene of affection happening in front of me with confusion. "Is this your cat?" I step forward to pet that furball of a Siberian.

"Kinda." Before I can even come within a foot of range with them, Nevula rotates her head towards me and lets a low, warning growl with her ears pinned back.

"I beg you pardon, Miss Possessive?" This cat doesn't seem to like me one bit, or maybe she's just protective of her human. Either way I get the hint and I step back, leaving the path for the royalty.

"Smart girl." Zane's subtle laughter cracks into a rumble as he holds her with his hand. "Looks like this stubborn kitten can identify the other stubborn kitten."

"Well said." That annoying click of heels finally registers to me as she steps into our room. Without knocking.

Mannerless bitch.

"She takes after her dad, right Neva?" She stops right in front of me.

Blocking my view as she approaches them.

The cat doesn't "grr" at her, but doesn't purr or notice her either.

She pets the cat on the head, trailing it to her back, and turns her head to me with that sickening smile or hers.

"I am sorry Andr-ew, she just doesn't like intruding strangers around people she cares about. "

This bitch does it intentionally!

I take a deep breath, but it becomes a flaring exhale. "No it's okay, Vermicelli. I get it." I don't bother correcting her this time.

The arrow strikes her toffee act and exposes the ugly picture beneath. "It's Veronica," her hazel eyes narrowing on me.

"Oh is it? Are you sure?" I ask her a repeated blink of my eyes.

"Yes I am, William." Her face looks like it has seen better days, without all that red.

Told 'ya.

I cover my mouth as I gasp. "Damn...I am so sorry, Vermicelli-urm, Veronica, it's just Enzo calls you that, so I thought-don't take it personally, okay? It was just a mistake."

"Yeah I get it." Her fist clenches hard on the phone in her hold, before she turns back to Zane.

The touch freak she is, she walks behind the couch-now being face to face with me-and leans down to give Zane a well-stretched, shitfaced peck on his cheek.

Keeping her eyes right on me, while she leaves her filthy lipstick stain. "Good morning, babe," she moans.

"Morning, Veronica." His tone is polite, but nothing like the one he uses with me.

The cat snarls, when Veronica squeaks, "Zee, are you okay? You are ice cold." She puts her hand on his forehead, "Yeah, you are definitely sick. Even your skin looks pale."

I freeze, glaring at her to ashes.

Now that I think about it... it all makes sense. He was looking pale, even his movements were fragile. Quite hard to notice, seeing how strong he is, but still. "I am fine, Veronica. Don't worry."

"No babe, you are not. You are cold like a glacier, and that's not fine. We are going to see a doctor. Let's go." Is she actually worried, or can she just act so well?

"I can take him." I finally speak up. If he's ill, it must be because he gave his jacket to me. It's only fair if I pay him back.

I feel Zane's eyes on me, but I don't look at him. I cannot.

I am sure he is doing the puppy dog eyes right now. And I cannot.

"No I will-"

"Both of you, no one is taking me anywhere. We are stuck, remember? And also, we don't need to go anywhere. There's a team of doctors staying with us. I just need to make a call, they will be here. But I don't need it, seriously." Zane explains. "I just need to take a nap and I'll be fine."

"Will you make the call or should I?" I fiercely question him. Because this is not time for his self sacrificing negligence. He can afford proper care, so why not?

Zane shakes his head, his mouth parting into a subtle smile as pulls his phone out and dials a number.

"Yeah, okay." Zane cuts the line, while I gawk at him. "He'll be here in five." He tells me.

And so he is. In just five minutes, there's a knock on our still wide open door, and a guy with salt and pepper, neatly trimmed hair enters the room. His white coat on, a stethoscope hanging on his neck with a medical bag in his hand.

"Mr. Belladonna, I see you got yourself ill finally." This guy definitely has big balls. Because I have seen how afraid Zane's men are of him, but this man... he sounds like he's way too familiar with him.

Zane laughs but it comes out more like a cough, "can't have you freeloading for nothing, Antonio. And call me, Zane or Valentino."

"You still haven't changed much, have you?" He sets his bag on the side of the bed.

"Well as you can see, I have grown stronger. So yeah, I have."

"Let's see how strong your body is holding it together then? Especially your lungs." Antonio laughs at his own joke.

As Antonio tries to come closer to Zane, Nevula hisses at him. Zane pets her, trying to calm her into being less hostile. But she doesn't budge, hissing loud like she's his knight in shining armor.

I understand she's overwhelmed, so I bend down on her level. When her eyes land on me, I just look straight into her eyes and do a slow blink. For a moment she just stays that way, but then she finally gets me and stops hissing.

She jumps down from Zane's lap, doesn't walk to me, but still a little close. I look at Zane and he is not even trying to hide that perfect smile.

"Now would you two mind standing outside?" Antonio asks me and the bitch, who has already started striding outside.

"No, doctor." I look at Zane, one last time before I start walking. "Let's go, Nevula! We'll get you a treat!" She walks alongside me and then walks right in front of me.

After struggling like a tortoise, we finally reach our living room, where the cunt has planted her cunt on our sofa. "Nevula, come here." She screams with agony. "How many times have I told you to not bother with strangers?" Nevula's ears airplane with fear as she plants down close to her feet.

"What's your deal? Why are you being bitchy to a cat?" I hate people who are vile with innocent humans. And Nevula is definitely scared of this bitch.

"My deal is none of your business." She stands up, walking towards me. "What's your deal though, loser?"

"My deal?"

"You deaf?" She rolls her eyes. "What are you even doing here? We both know, you don't belong here, so why?"

"Well Zane married me, so where else should I be?" I raise my hand up, showing the back of my hand. "See. Beautiful isn't it? It's Zane's birthstone." I put it back down. "The bigger question is, what are you doing here? Who even are you, Vermicelli or whatever?"

"I am someone who's better than you in every way.

I am the woman Zane adores the most." With a smash of deep-rooted anger, Veronica hurls a photo frame to the floor, the sharp crunch of its breaking glass frightening Nevula.

"You will never be better than me, William.

Zane is mine. He has to be..." Her last words are cries of panic and the crack in her shattering frame.

"That ring on your hand belongs to me. You are not worthy of it, you dirty smelly Indian!" She charges on me, eyes filled with a kind of ugliness that no make up can hide. "I won't let you and your purebred Indian and disgusting mom infiltrate my Zane anymore!"

SLAP!

Before she can reach to put a scratch on me, my hand slams onto her cheek with a tight slap.

"My mom taught me to never raise a hand on a woman.

To respect them is what makes you a real man.

" I hold my breath to calm my senses before I put another slap on her.

"But life taught me to put people in their places before they forget where they belong.

And you..." I fling my elbow on her neck and watch her fall on the floor.

"You have crossed your limit by disrespecting my mom. "

"Ahh!" Her head slams down, her hair making a mess as she drops.

"This is what you are, a weak pathetic nobody.

No one even knew about you, and then out of nowhere you became the person he married.

Impossible. I won't let it happen." Her voice sounds pained, not just physical ache. .. something deeper.

"Let it happen?" My head falls back as I laugh out loud. "Sweetie, it's already done. Don't you see that ring that he put on my finger in front of everyone? Or wait... were you not even invited to the main ceremony?"

Look I have no interest in Zane, or whoever he fucks. But this heinous woman just gets on my nerves. She insulted my mom, and is a disgusting racist.

If Zane is what she wants...

Well, I'm not giving up on him.

At least until I get my revenge.

After that, she can do whatever she wants... That is if Zane is still there.

"You can keep that pathetic ring for all you want." She raises her head to look at me from there. Her whole face is red with anger. "Once Zane is with me, he will give me an even bigger ring. He will give me the world." She pants.

"In your pathetic dreams." I pinch my forearm to numb myself.

I don't understand why her words affect me this much.

Why do I want to rip her into pieces right now?

"My dreams?" She laughs, one which makes her whole body vibrate with viciousness.

"Just you watch... So what if he has married a repugnant man?

He is still a man. A real one. And he will want an heir to run his legacy.

.. and you know who he will come to?" She wipes her cheek, glaring right at me.

"Me. I will be the mother of his child, and then he will stay with me forever. Mark my words, William."

For a second I just wait for it to end. This is has to be a malicious dream, because what the fuck?

I don't know what their relationship is but this lady has LOST IT.

She's a fucking psycho. Obsessed with Zane to the point she's sounding inhuman.

"I guess we gotta see then." I tell her.

Just at the moment the door swings open, making both of us turn her head towards it.
