Chapter 47🌜 Lone Visitor
William's POV
My heart skips a beat at his plea. My hand trembles in his. I know what I should do. I know what I am supposed to do. Then why do his actions always bring me to this cliff and then make me backtrack?
I don't even know what I can trust now. It's like I am on this road, blinded by the fog.
Ahead of me stands Zane, his flashlight aimed straight into my eyes.
Behind me, a shadow lurks close, almost drifting backward.
Something drips from her hand onto the asphalt, yet she never stops.
Or perhaps, I didn't.
Everything is a hazy mess of uncertainty and I'm just a lone visitor.
Whenever I take even a single step forward, a string behind me pulls me back-back to the direction which doesn't have a destination.
How can I pull my hand away now when, even in his sleep, he's reaching for me?
His reflection in my eyes becomes blurry with each of my thoughts and I can't blink the tears away.
I slowly put his hand down on the bed and pull the duvet back up. My feet take me straight to the couch and I sit down.
I pull out my phone from my pocket and open the texting app-the one which has now become my most used app.
I scroll down, until I find what I am looking for.
I press the volume button to decrease it and then place the speakers close to my ear.
"Oh my god, Will. Are you crazy?" Her angry voice booms in my ear and I double press the volume button.
"You haven't eaten a single thing in the whole fucking day!
And don't you even dare trying to lie, I asked Aliza and she told me you are skipping breakfasts lately and now you skipped Lunch too.
" I can't stop the tiny smile that tugs at my lips despite being scolded.
"I know you're stressed with your finals and this piece you are working on.
But baby, food isn't a maybe-it's a necessity and you can't just neglect it.
Send me a photo of you eating something in five or else...
I will be there in six and then you can say goodbye to your work for another eight hours. Bye, love ya."
This was the last voice note she sent me. A week before she...
In times like this, I feel like I was a shitty partner to her. I shouldn't have stressed her this way. I should have taken better care of her, instead of bothering her with my needs.
Should have kept her happier in her last days.
The photo below is a selfie of me biting on a PBJ sandwich with my rabbit teeth visible and me showing the mug of black coffee in my hand to the camera. My hair is messily falling on my forehead and there's a splash of red acrylic paint on my nose.
Yup, she chats like that. Voice notes are actually her thing.
Eat ot!
A teardrop trickles down the screen. I bring my phone close to my chest. "Oh, Romie...please come back. How will I handle all of this without you?" I say as quietly as possible.
Knock-knock!
