Chapter 50

“You think we should check on acorn?”
Dash chuckled, his hands in his pockets as we strolled down the sidewalk. “You are about as bad as I was when I first had her. She’s fine, babe. She’s spent the night at this girl’s house before.”
“But she ain’t Serpent.”
“No,” he snorted, turning to walk backwards so he could look at my face. “And that’s okay. Mary vetted her—”
I snarled and lowered my eyelids.
His lips pulled between his teeth, his nose wrinkling. “Bad example, huh?”
My thumb and finger held close together, I grumbled, “Lil’ bit.”
He stopped in front of me and held the sides of my jacket, making me stop, as well.
“Babe, you gotta relax. She’s fine. Look,” he chortled, waving an arm over my shoulder in the direction of the restaurant we were leaving.
“We just had a great dinner. The food was fine, the service fine.” A brow arching, his tone was a little husky as he added, “My date is fine,” and pulled his bottom lip between his teeth.
Tilting his head to rake his sight along me, his gaze was smoldering when he gazed into my eyes once more.
My stomach knotted and adrenaline heated my blood.
“And when we get home, we’re gonna turn on some tunes and dance under these fucking amazing stars,” he said, now waving toward the sky.
The corner of my mouth tugged, some of my trepidation fading. I may be new at this parental thing, but Dash had been doing it for a few years, and he was damn good at it. If he trusted this family with Piera overnight, then I needed to just relax.
He stepped closer, his hands on my sides, our chests meshed together. “And later, maybe we’ll curl up on that sofa on your back porch and make love.”
Desire pumped my heartbeat a little faster. “Our porch.”
“Yeah, our porch. Our daughter.”
“Our life.”
“Sounds pretty rad, don’t it?”
Stretching his neck, he started to place a kiss on my lips when we heard someone approaching, making gross, mockery sounds. Breaking away, we looked behind Dash and spotted someone traipsing forward wearing a green bandana around his head.
“Oh, shit,” he grumbled, stepping to my side.
“What the fuck is he doing on our turf?”
“No clue,” he said under his breath, his palm sliding against mine. “C’mon, let’s just go. Now ain’t the time—”
“The hell it ain’t, he’s on our turf. We’re the leaders now, Dash, we can’t just—”
“Vin,” he snapped, shooting an irritated glare. “He just saw us making out. Now ain’t the time. Let’s go. Now.”
Huffing, I relented and let him tug me down the alley at the end of the block. Headed for the parking lot at the next block, we quickened our pace, my muscles getting tight.
“It ain’t right, Dash. It feels like we’re running.”
“We ain’t running, Vin. You and Jackyl spent years with them, trying to make peace and boundaries. We don’t need to fuck that up over stupidity.”
My feet skidded to a halt, my stomach bottoming out. “So, we’re stupid now?”
He groaned and rolled his eyes, turning to face me. “Absolutely not. He’s stupid for having a problem. It’s his problem, Vin, not ours. Let’s just—”
“The Serpents are being run by a couple fags now days, huh? Without Jackyl, y’all just a bunch of pussies now,” the man snickered.
Dash cursed but I bristled, spinning around to glare. “I suggest you watch your fucking mouth, boy.”
He snickered, flashing several gold teeth. “Or what? Whachoo gone do, faggot?”
Snarling, I stepped forward, but Dash yanked me back.
“He ain’t worth it, Vin. Let’s go.”
Walking backward, Dash tugging me, the man threw his head back and bellowed with laughter.
“Fucking pussy. I guess I see who the little woman is in the relationship. You get on your knees every night for him, little girl?”
Seething with rage, my vision turning red, I was foaming at the mouth.
“The Serpents ain’t shit no more.” He tugged at the crotch of his baggy jeans and jutted his chin. “This gone be our turf soon and all y’all faggots gone be on your knees for the Lords of Hell.”
“The fuck we will,” I shouted, snatching my arm from Dash. “You better watch yourself, you are in our territory speaking a lot of dumb shit, motherfucker.”
“This ain’t your turf no more, faggot. Now get on your knees and suck my dick like the fucking whore you—”
A boom echoed in the narrow alley, the sound resonating off the brick and stucco walls.
Cursing, I ducked, pressing my hands to my ears, the gunshot exploding inches away.
The man’s head snapped backward, a hole denting between his eyes, blood oozing over his nose.
Groaning, he slumped to the ground, face first… dead.
Stunned, I was frozen a moment, not really sure what to do because I hadn’t been expecting that. Sure, I knew fists were about to fly, but to flat out shoot him with people out and about?
Spinning on my heels, I gawked at him leering, the gun tucking back under his shirt. “Dude!” I shouted, throwing my arms out. “What the fuck was that?”
His upper lip twitching, rage darkened his irises. “No one fucking talks to you like that,” he seethed. Stepping closer so he was hovering above him, he snarled and emptied his clip into his back. “Never disrespect my man again!” he shouted and then spit on the dead body.
Despite the situation, a burst of exhilaration shot through my system at his possessiveness. Fuck, why was that so hot? My dick was throbbing hard right now.
Rushing closer, I grabbed his elbow and shoved him forward, forcing him to jog to keep up. Looking around to make sure we didn’t have an audience, we turned the corner, leaving the body where it fell. We ran across the street to the parking lot, got in my car, and sped away.
As I was running the red light and turning another corner, I fumbled with my jeans to pull out my cock. Panting, I grabbed his nape and shoved his face into my lap.
“Suck it. Oh, shit, Dario, that was so fucking hot. Suck my dick, baby.”
He groaned and took me to my base, a pro at giving head these days. My jaw falling, I shuddered with ecstasy, my fingers wringing around the steering wheel as he eagerly bobbed up and down.
“Fuck, yeah. Oh, shit, I’m gonna fuck you so hard when we get home. Unh, I fucking love you.”
He groaned and grew more zealous, his fist yanking with his mouth.
As turned on as I was, in the back of my mind was a warning that, after years of peace, the turf war may have just been resparked. The Boss was going to kill us.

“Babe.”
“What?” I shouted, licking the side of my thumb when some of the melted cheese splattered on it.
“Come here.”
“Where?”
“Office.”
Wiping my hands on a paper towel, I pushed the macaroni and cheese I was making for Piera aside and strolled for the hallway.
“Hurry.”
“All right,” I snapped, jogging into the office.
Dash was slouched low in the chair, the large monitor to the computer filled with tiny, one inch blocks. It wasn’t like the security system back in Georgia where the whole wall was covered in full sized screens, but it was sufficient for our needs now that there was no physical danger to…
That thought faded out and a chill sank into my core at the car pulling up to the house.
“Oh…shit,” I muttered, instinctively placing my hand on his shoulder.
“Shit!” he blasted, bounding to his feet. Pacing, his hand raked through his hair, his expression hard. “What the fuck did I do, Vin? What the fuck!” he shouted, shaking his fists.
“Look, just calm down—”
Pointing at the screen, spit flew out of his mouth with, “It’s the leader of the Lords, Vin!
I fucking killed one of his people last night.
I destroyed the pact. As soon as The Boss makes me a leader, I destroy everything you and Jackyl busted your ass for.
You think he ain’t gonna have an issue with that? ”
“Hey, look at me.” I grabbed the sides of his neck and forced him to be still. My chin dipped a bit to stare at him through my lashes. “We’ll use Ty’s jet and bounce, okay? It’s fine. Ain’t nothing gonna happen.”
“I’m so fucking sorry, babe,” he whispered.
The doorbell rang and sharp talons clawed under my skin, my sight flitting to the videos on the screen. Gazing into his eyes once more, my brows lifted.
“Just follow my lead, got it? Be cool. He was on our turf, he was starting shit. Remember that. We protected ours.”
He nodded stiffly but gulped. A few months ago, neither one of us would have even so much as batted a lash at a situation like this, but everything was different. The enemy was standing on our doorstep and our daughter was upstairs. We had to be careful.
I patted the side of his neck, placed a kiss to his forehead, and bent over, snatching the top drawer to grab the gun. Tucking it under the hem of my shirt at the front of my jeans, I didn’t bother to hide it, I wanted him to know we were on the defense.
“Pull it together. Remember who the fuck you are. Let’s go.”
“Right, right.” He pulled his Glock from the back of his jeans and copied me, following to the door.
My eyes met his dark green ones through the glass. He was glaring, his lips thin, a muscle in his jaw flexing. Wearing his colors, his chin lifted defiantly as I reached for the knob. I opened it slowly and stood there, Dash beside me as a united front.
“What’re you doing here, man? We got rules.”
His nostrils flared with a deep inhale, his focus shifting to Dash a moment. “I ain’t about beating around the bush, Vin. I’m gonna get straight to the point.”
In unison, we both reached for our pistols, gripping the handles.
His eyelids rounded with a trace of fear, his palms pumping in the air. “Ain’t no need for that, Vinny,” he urged, taking a few steps backward.
“Wachoo worried about, Red?”
He snorted and fanned his hands out. “Ain’t worried ‘bout nothing, man,” he clearly lied, his focus on my piece. “I just wanna set the record straight here. Me, you, and Jackyl made a pact, and I ain’t in no damn mood for another turf war.”
“So, you’re here to keep the peace.”
“Yeah.”
