the shadow crown system
Awakening
The sky burned red.
Cities fell to ash. Screams echoed across the horizon like a dying orchestra.
Will stood at the heart of it all - the man once hailed as humanity's greatest hope. A hero who fought for peace, who gave everything for the world that now turned its blade on him.
Chains of light coiled around his limbs, searing his flesh. Soldiers surrounded him, the same ones he had once led into battle. The banners of the Allied Nations fluttered in the wind, bearing the mark of judgment.
"You've gone too far, Will," said a voice he knew too well - Commander Arlen, his mentor. "You tampered with the forbidden flames. Youve become a threat to the world."
Will's laugh was hollow, raw with disbelief. "A threat? I saved this cursed world from its own destruction. I sacrificed everything, and this is how it ends?"
Arlen's gaze hardened. "We can't risk another catastrophe. Your power isn't human anymore."
The soldiers raised their rifles. The light intensified. Will clenched his fists, feeling the heat of his own power stirring beneath his skin - the living fire that had once protected the world. But he didn't fight back.
He just whispered, "So this is what humanity means to you."
The light swallowed him whole.
Pain. Fire. Silence.
And then... nothing.
When he opened his eyes again, the world was quiet. The smell of soil replaced the stench of burning steel. A soft wind brushed against his face. He lay in a field under a foreign sun, surrounded by towering trees and the distant cry of beasts he'd never heard before.
He gasped and sat up. His hands were smaller. His armor, gone. His reflection shimmered faintly in a puddle nearby - a younger face, dark hair streaked faintly with red, and eyes that flickered with ember-like glow.
"Where... am I?"
His voice was different - deeper, yet calm. His body felt lighter but unfamiliar.
That's when it happened.
A faint sound, like a bell.
Then a cold, mechanical voice echoed in his mind.
[System Initialization Complete.]
[Welcome, Voltaro Ashburn.]
[Primary Element: Flame - Type: Sovereign Grade.]
He froze. "Voltaro... Ashburn?"
The name didn't belong to him. It was foreign, heavy with an ancient weight.
[Memory Integration in Progress...]
[Subject reincarnated through dimensional displacement.]
[Parental records found: Elias and Maren Ashburn - Status: Deceased.]
Images flashed through his mind - a warm home, two gentle faces smiling down at him, fire crackling in a small hearth. Then darkness. A burning village. Screams. The same warmth that once comforted him now turned into the flame of destruction.
He clutched his head as the memories merged with his own. Two lives - one as Will, the betrayed savior of a dying world, and one as Voltaro, the orphan of a fallen noble house.
When the dizziness faded, he breathed heavily, staring at his trembling hands. Flames flickered from his fingertips, bright and alive, yet gentle to his touch.
"Flame... again."
It was his curse and his gift - the power that had destroyed his first life, now reborn with him.
[Tutorial Quest Unlocked: Survive the First Night.]
[Reward: Basic Skill - Ember Pulse.]
"Survive?" He looked around. The forest darkened as the sun dipped below the horizon. Eyes glowed between the trees - low growls echoing in the shadows.
Beasts. Dozens of them.
Will - no, Voltaro - rose to his feet, his heartbeat steady. The flames coiled around his hands like living serpents, casting light across the clearing. The fear that once defined him was gone, replaced by cold determination.
"Last time, I died trusting the world." He stepped forward, fire flaring from his palms. "This time, I'll burn my own path."
The first creature lunged - a wolf-like beast with black fur and crimson eyes. Voltaro thrust his hand forward.
"Ember Pulse!"
A burst of flame erupted, engulfing the monster. The explosion lit up the forest, ash scattering in the wind.
[Enemy defeated.]
[Experience gained: 30 XP.]
[Skill proficiency increased.]
Voltaro smirked. "A system, huh? Let's see how far this world lets me climb."
The beasts roared in the dark, but the fire in his eyes only grew brighter.
In his past life, he died for the world.
In this one - the world would burn for him.
Too be continue.....
